What is something you do (regularly or not) that you think nobody else does? It could be the way you open a drawer, the way you wake, or even the way you go to the toilet. Is there something special about your routine? Why do you do it this way?

I can twist things to make them less negative. My husband once said: "if the cat's sick on the carpet Caro will say "Oh good, no splatter" and if the cat is sick on the parquet Caro will say "Great, at least it's not on the carpet". And it's true, I can turn negativity away from me. I just think it's a survival thing or I might be nuts, .... or possibly both ;).

After all, this is the internet... even if I posted some weird s**t like that every morning I woke up at 05:43Hrs, juggled 3 small kittens for 8 minutes whilst the kettle was boiling and then settled down to a nice cup of mud tea you can bet your a**e that half an hour later at least three people would have replied with 'oh, I do that too' and before you know it you're starting an early morning kitten juggling group cause it's a lot more common than you think. xd

I call myself an emotional thermostat. I can change the mood of a person or persons very easily. In my younger years, I used this ability to manipulate people, especially my boyfriends.
(*cringes* I have deep regrets behind my past behaviours)
as a grown adult I use this ability in my life for good. I work in the ICU/critical care. I am known for my ability to cheer up, put people at ease, reduce anxiety, and reduce fear.
I am also very good at being able to pick up nonverbal cues from my sick patients (or anyone really, including animals) I consider these things to be my super powers/gifts.

My apparently "unique" habit is actually stopping at "STOP" signs. I say it's unique because I seldom see ANYBODY, including most Police cars, stop at "STOP" signs. Everybody seems to roll on through at speeds varying from "slow walk" to "hell, nobody's coming so I'm BLASTIING through"! So stopping at these signs is a unique characteristic to me and, judging by the two times I was actually "bumped" from behind, a startling discovery for many of those with whom I, shudder, "share the road".

My mind will do other annoying "replay" moments as well. I once went to bed replaying that one annoying part on a Beatsaber song. not sure if this is unique or considered a habit but i don't wash my dogs in a tub; i do it in the shower stall. they are all big dogs and i found it was not only such a mess using the tub but i was always concerned that i didn't get all the soap off them, especially their lady bits. i have a hand held shower and so i am able to avoid getting too much water and/or soap in their eyes as well as being able to rinse their 'under carriage' well. also, very good at rinsing between their toes as well. before i started doing this they would line up outside the shower and press their faces to watch me. now that they know what is going on in their they more or less willingly walk in and let me wash them well. the only issue they have is that i have to start the washing procedure starting with the oldest dog first and work my way to the youngest. if i don't do this the oldest gets snarky with the others either when they come out of the shower or while they are waiting to go in. go figure! i do know that the vet confirmed that she has some brain damage so maybe it is her perception of the whole process that makes her feel slighted.

the only negative thing that has happened with this practice is that i have had guests stay who prefer to shower. i keep their shampoos and conditioners in the shower for convenience. a couple of times i have had them come out to compliment me on what good smelling coconut conditioner i have or that their skin feels exceptionally moisturized....one of them uses a special shampoo for dry skin. now, i warn people to check the bottles.

Hubby refused (and still refuses) to discuss my cancer. We lost my BFF in Oct and his mom in November. Again, won't talk about it. Last month his brother was diagnosed with lung cancer. Silver lining? He has been forced to finally deal with everything so that he can be there for him. He is finally talking to me about my cancer so that we can help his brother.

Also if someone touches me to fast I scream or if they get in my face and yell i scream and jump back and cover my ears. It doesn’t matter that I can see the thing or know it’s happening I still get scared and my brain goes into full on flight or fight. I also walk around with my hand up like just barely above waist high. I do it because I have three flights of stairs in my house and I run down with my hand out so that if I fall I can grab the banister before I’ve fell properly. I don’t just talk with myself; I make up and vocalize songs and raps to work out the problematic situations I’m grappling with.

See, I’m an extrovert living within a family of introverts. I know! My preference is to address issues that arise directly and cooperatively, to get it out there and over with. But my beloved lifemates tend to avoid such interactions, sometimes to the point where the unresolved issue becomes a major irritant to all. Rather than living in a constant state of frustration or annoyance, I use my bottled up energy to sing. I love music and language and humor, and I find that making up melodic rhymes about situations that I need more clarity on is both therapeutic and a source of fun and creative output for me. Sometimes my kids or hubby hear me, sometimes they don’t, but I’m not performing for their benefit. I’m doing it to preserve my sanity and my relationships, and to maintain my strong need for self expression (that might otherwise be suppressed. I make up dance moves too, if the mood strikes. Whatever it takes, because I really prefer to feel happy and at peace in my home.

My weird songs work! I come up with all sorts of solutions using this free-form type of problem solving. And I always find myself smiling by the end of one of my “sessions,” which benefits ALL who dwell within our quiet home. The neighbors may disagree however!
