Please describe the character and universal values of Americans. I’m really curious about how your descriptions compare to those I've seen in China.

As an American, it varies a lot, especially from place to place (we’re a biiig country), but I’ll try to come up with some generally universal ones. We tend to make small talk to strangers throughout our day, whether it’s in the bus stop or waiting in line for something. The majority of us don’t read books in our spare time. Politics tend to be very polarizing/extreme, and we typically don’t bring them up in conversation so we don’t start arguments.

I thought Americans liked to read a book in their yard or in a cafe. My impression of Americans is that most people are friendly and knowledgeable.

While Americans may be friendly, the American education system is not that great at the moment(our government underfunds it), so not all of us are that knowledgeable. Also, with college being so expensive (another side effect of the underfunding), a lot of people are deciding that a higher education is not worth it.

The fact that Americans like chatting with strangers does fit the description of enthusiasm, but Americans don’t like reading? What I know is that Americans love reading. I was a little surprised to get this answer.

America has a 79% literacy rate(this may be partially because of all the immigrants we take in), and about 50% of US adults read below a 6th grade level.
