Washing and reusing anything glass? Eating food way after the expiration date? How did having a depression-era person in your family or life inform the way you see today.

The people that lived through that era are nearly gone. Have we learned anything from them? Big or little?

Don't waste things if they can be reused for something else.

My grandmother was a country school teacher and my great grand parents farmers so they were lucky. The children in school were basically starving and my great grandmother would get up to make biscuits and boiled eggs for my grandmother to take with her every day. The children would bring her flowers or string or rocks or dolls made of grass and even a prize possession like a marble and yes even a frog. She kept them all (except the frog). 🐸

"Use your best first" my grandmother taught me. Whether it was potatoes, clothing, tools, china or a quilt, it didn't matter. If you use the best thing you have first, once it's used up then the next one you have will be the best. It was a way to find joy and gratitude in tough times.

My grandma did and dad would aways say when I was cutting an onion and tear off the first layer of skin your grandma would have a fit if she seen you do that an even he would say it was a waste. They where very much saw food as very important. They tryed to keep it or have you eat it because when they where little day to day they never knew when they would eat. So they tryed to live like that Incase times got bad

I learned how to make do with very little, how to repair clothes, buy things that will last, save things that are useful, and to be generous. Just to name a few.
