While one understands the need for swear words and insults to be censored, the lack of context is causing all sorts of ridiculous asterisks that really don't need to be there—the pieces in the front row of a chessboard, the opposite of low, spherical objects used in sport (or formal dances), etc. This is making some posts unreadable for those who don't have English as their first language (and not easy for those who do, even though we know what the words are). Is there a way to halt this decline? Would you be in favor of removing censorship altogether?

Censoring certain words has a profound negative effect. For instance, in my line of work, it is better to say someone has "died" rather than "passed" as it removes any confusion, and whilst it appears blunt, it brings perspective to what has occurred.

Censoring other words only goes to add stigma to those words, and ultimately leads to people to avoid talking about subjects such as depression and substance dependency / abuse, which potentially leads to further harm.

Furthermore, censorship can be damaging when talking about subjects from a medical point of view.

From the interactions I've had on here, and from the vast majority of replies I have seen it is clear that most BP users are educated adults.

I would personally like to see BP take a common sense approach to the subject of censorship, rather than a blanket and automatic approach to certain words.

Maybe have a human approach to subjects, looking at the context of the article and the content?

I would be more than happy for the moderators and staff of BP to grow a pair and not censor anything on BP. If they are worried about children on the site, don't allow children to register and require age verification. If the problem is with sponsors, tell them to go fu*k themselves.

I see your point, but age verification will not effectively keep children off the site. They’re smarter than you think
