Christmas, the time of family joy. I should really be preparing them presents sometime soon, but I have absolutely no creativity, so therefore I am asking you, please send help.

Nothing.

After years of trying to please my abusive, toxic family, I decided I won't do it anymore (they are never happy or thankful anyway). My mental health is more important.

I will, however, get presents for myself, my friends (a rare cactus, some pretty jewels, some nice cosmetics, and wool-felted decorations made by me) and my pet bird (lots of toys and treats :).

I've bought my mother a bottle of Tanqueray Zero so that she can have a grown up drink without alcohol, and my father another reading magnifying glass so he can have one upstairs and one downstairs. I was going to make Mr Auntriarch a Robin Hood hat because he shoots longbow, but I haven't had time yet

I made my dad a ceramic duck because he's been down lately and ducks make everyone happy, and I'm going to make my mom a lap blanket once she picks out her fabric (she does not like surprises). For my grandparents, I'm kind of piggybacking on family gifts though, since school is chaos this year. I did buy my boyfriend a banana duck plushie though, I hope he likes it :D

When you get older (as we all are) and have lots of "stuff" sometimes symbolic gifts can mean more.

For the past several years I have given my mom and sibs gifts from World Vision. You can buy plants, emergency food rations, blankets, mosquito netting, chickens, other livestock, school supplies or many other things.

There are many organizations like Samaritan's Purse, The Heifer Organization, Habitat for Humanity. Through these places and a ton more, you can give a tangible gift, in the name of a loved one. (It's always good to check on Charity Navigator to see if the organization you are going to trust w/ your money is transparent about where donations are spent.)

This year it's going to Abraham's Blessing out of Cincinnati, Ohio and they are committed to drilling wells for rural people in Kenya. They have done over 100 wells to date. Their slogan, "Water is Life".

I'm putting a lot of time & effort into homemade/repurposed gifts. Like painting something nice (scenery) on pillow shams - so far these have turned out rather nice looking.
Also have a couple of small boxes, one is coming along nicely while the other - not so much. So maybe a decorative shelf instead. And a "Chewy Box" for my K9 kid, Grae'son.

For my partner- shoe storage- the dustproof boxes that stack up 10 high and many wide.

For my daughters- my ex husband alienated them from me and Iā€™ve bought them something for the past dozen years but I fall apart wrapping them so I canā€™t manage to give them. This year Iā€™ll donate in their names to UNICEF, Heifer International, Wikipedia, and/or one other organizaion I canā€™t remember now. They had their birthday party guests make donations to the first two from preschool up through Middle School.

My sonā€¦ chain mail if I can manage it.

Me- well, my partner is dreadful about all holidays but maybe Iā€™ll get a new mattress and linen sheets beause all I sleep too much.

I got my SIL a super big and fluffy blanket with a huge hood with cat ears on it.
I also got her some sushi shaped marzipan. ( She is pregnant so she can't eat sushi for another 3 months) and some more chocolate.

The rest of our family will go for a nice dinner at the 25th.

I'm going to donate money to "OneTreePlanted," for each family member. Hope other readers do the same. They plant a tree seedling for each $1 donated. You can spend $25 on some junk they're just going to throw in their closet or you can plant 25 trees to help save the planet. Please consider gifting trees!

After years of trying to find the right gift and it either being the wrong size or not what they wanted, I told everyone you're getting gift cards this year and queried each person as to what card they wanted. I was surprised that nearly everyone was very receptive to the idea.
