There is much rhetoric in the media about returning to normal. But do we really need to return the same life we came from? Can't we do better? What kind of "normal" do you want to live in?

We need to evolve. It has become painfully clear at least to me just how ridiculous society can be. Masks are not bad. As a person who uses mass transit wearing a mask on a crowded bus just makes sense.

Also the idea that even if you are sick you need to go to work. It is a shame that so many people here in the states don't have paid sick leave but I am lucky enough to have that. If I am sick I am sick. I don't need to be the "tough" guy and still work. It's so beyond dumb when I think abt how I was before covid

I want to live in a world where introverts and those on the spectrum are respected and not coerced into following the societal norms dictated by a few. For example:
* The freedom to reject a clammy handshake or an uncomfortable hug. Basically, the ability to make and enforce the rules around how my body is handled.
* Freedom from constant noise and chatter.
* Ability to say "No" when asked out to a pub, and not be coerced or belittled simply because we don't enjoy noisy, crowded, smoky places full of drunk people.

There is no such thing as normal. Normal is conformity to societal standards which is a joke in and of itself. Everytime I hear the words 'I want to go back to normal' I just shake my head. This is the new normal for the indefinite future. "Normal" is always changing, people usually don't even notice until they look back 10 years and say "OMG look at these photos what were we thinking".

Normal also varies so much that trying to define it is almost impossible. While some standards of Normal may be the same across a specific country, normality can be broken down to every region, every town, or places you grew up away from where you are now. It's normal where my bestie is from to have smoked meats at a funeral that a funeral home provides (please not I have a lot of dark humor and yes I have taken the opportunity to make cannibal jokes), it's normal in Chicago to put a chair out to block your parking spot and if someone takes it despite your marker there you have every right to bury that person's car in snow, I really could go on.

Normal is constantly changing and fluid in whatever it needs to be. The new normal is just being forced upon us and people are resisting because most people don't like change. Due to my job I'm being forced to try to get things 'back to normal' a whole heck of a lot sooner than is actually safe but I don't have an opinion while I'm on the clock so I just post stuff like this up here because I'm frustrated.

I want the death rate per capita to drop to what it was before Covid 19 and then we can continue that trend.
