I found a tiny pink bloom growing out of a crack in the gutter. I managed to dig it out and take it home. It's Madagascar periwinkle and it's taking over the porch.

So beautiful! The colours are amazing - good job with your spiky boi! My dad used to collect cacti and succulents - and just about every other sort of plant. He had the proverbial green thumb. I've finally got to the point where I manage to grow more than I kill so at least I'm improving! No cacti though as it's a bit wet where I am.

I paid to buy a firecracker columbine, planted it where i wanted it, and next year it had moved itself to under my brick patio edge. No way to access the root to move it. It comes back every year in that spot, thumbing its columbine nose at me

I stole a piece (3cm) of the original plant (it's a succulent, so though I felt bad for pocketing it, I knew the original plant wouldn't suffer) because it was so odd and I had never seen it available in any garden center. It took a lot of trial and error on my part to get it to grow, and this year I was rewarded with 3 blossoms, all about the size of a halfdollar (2€). Sorry/not sorry I stole it.
