2022 was a hard year for many of us. With 2023 coming up, share something you were proud of accomplishing this year. It can be something small (tried sushi for the first time) or something that changed your life (got your dream job).

Remember that mental accomplishments count too (went on your first date after depression, opened up to a close friend, had a really good day, etc.).

In August my niece called me and asked me to go pick up one of her childhood best friends that I've known since birth. Her friend was 7 and a half months pregnant and suddenly homeless with nowhere to go since she had aged out of foster care at 18 and wound up pregnant right after leaving foster care. (Her parents are both addicts and can't even take care of themselves.)

So I drove and picked up a scared 19 year old at almost 8 months pregnant and brought her home with me and put her in my camper that I just finished renovating and told her she was welcome to stay with me rent free until after the baby was born and she healed and could get back to work. I removed the dinette set from my 37 ft camper and we put a tall dresser and crib in its place and then I got her everything she needed for the baby (other than formula and a baby monitor) so that she didn't have to worry about buying anything until her daughter turns like 5 years old.

We got her a highchair, crib, dresser, plastic storage drawers, pacifiers, bottles, nose suckers, diapers, rocker, walker, playpen, baby tub, stroller, car seat, blankets, clothes sizes newborn all the way up to 4T, baby shoes, a breast pump, headbands, baby shampoo, hairbrushes, nail clippers, bouncy seat, baby toys, hair bows, socks, mittens, baby gate, breastfeeding bras and some clothes and etc baby necessities.

After the baby was born and she was healed from labor she got a job cleaning houses and then just got her first place three weeks ago and sent her off with a futon and dresser I gave her a long with all of the baby stuff.

And then a week later I took her dishes and silverware when I realized she couldn't afford to furnish her new place.

Then last week a guy friend gifted me all of the contents of his storage unit so I surprised her with a king sized bed, queen sized bed, couch, dresser, night stand, convection oven, space heaters, clothes, more kitchen stuff, coat hangers, a rug, curtains, and bedsheets. They were desperately needed since she took in her little brother who just aged out of foster care too. I told them that Santa Claus said Merry Christmas.

Tomorrow I'm taking them new flooring and a new front door since the house she got is in serious need of renovation.

I got my first full-time job, adopted my first puppy, and took the first step to get counseling/therapy for my depression. I'm pretty proud of myself.😁

I tried out for All-State Band for the first time. I didn’t try out as a freshman because of Covid, and I didn’t try out last year because I didn’t have enough time to prepare. But even though I didn’t make it, I am so glad I did it. I am a much better player now because of it. I’m totally trying again next year.

I went on a Ferris wheel for the first time in my life, I was always scared of heights, but I decided that I was going to ride it and then see if I would do it again. I can proudly say that I will ride a Ferris wheel again!

My drawing skills have improved immensely, I used to suck at drawing people, but now I can draw people really well, but I still can’t draw hands or feet. And I discovered a graphic novel series that changed my life, it’s called Heartstopper, and it now is a tv series on Netflix.

Last year was my worst year, mental health-wise. After multiple instances of feeling suicidal, having a meltdown, and feeling incredibly depressed afterwards, I decided that I needed to see a therapist. It's been about 4 months since my first appointment, and it has been a tremendous help, and I feel so much better now. So, all and all, my biggest achievement was surviving last year.
