    Here's a little blip I found about them. "The spotted lanternfly causes serious damage including oozing sap, wilting, leaf curling and dieback in trees, vines, crops and many other types of plants. In addition to plant damage, when spotted lanternflies feed, they excrete a sugary substance, called honeydew, that encourages the growth of black sooty mold."

    Yep harmless and not actually a fly. Scorpion flies belong to their own order of insects called Mecoptera. Flies belong to the order Diptera.

    Saw this sand wasp with its unfortunate catch at Spurn Point (U.K). I believe they take the prey back to their burrow and lay their eggs in them, thus providing a source of food when the eggs hatch. If this is wrong I would be interested in the real reason if anyone would care to enlighten me
