I know people are going to downvote and upvote others, but I feel that people need a safe spot for people to understand what others feel.
I personally believe that if we talk about it reasonably and without insults, people can start to understand the other side. So I’m asking this question: how do you feel about this? I doing want to hear some celebrity’s POV or whatever, I want to hear your own POV.
The overturning of Roe v Wade actually doesn’t outright ban abortion, but rather gives the power to the states. I’m going to point this out. Also, it is highly unlikely that other protections will be removed from one thing. I’m going to point this out so that there is no confusion over what the Supreme Court said.
I have a few rules (but only for protection)
1. No illicit drug dealing. It has happened before in one of my posts and I hate that people do that.
2. No insults, slurs, or hatred over someone for who they are or their opinion. Please use the downvote button as little as possible.
3. This is only about your feelings about this. I don’t want to hear anything about politics that is completely off topic. (Illegal immigration, Covid, etc.) talking about the fear of what’ll happen to other minority communities is allowed. So, blm and stop Asian hate, along with LGBT problems with this is allowed.
Anything with slurs and disobeying the rules will be reported. I want to have a safe place for people to talk about how they feel and debate without problems.

It’s a bad thing. I’m republican and I don’t support abortion but the long term consequences of this will be even more impactful than the actual overturning. From here on out every time a new political party enters office more Supreme Court justices will be added to overturn laws put in place by the other side. This will put the US in a constant state of fluctuating laws and could cause mass corruption if not dealt with.
If people cannot reach a compromise, I’m afraid that our country will fall apart. I may not support abortion, but at the same time, I also believe that our government needs to stop acting like brats and idiots, start going on their promises, and then actually f*cking listen to what the people want! People want more than just whatever tf the Supreme Court says; they want help with inflation, gas prices, quality of life, healthcare, and even just not having to decide between hygiene and being able to eat. We need help.
I'm enraged and scared, especially for women who are stuck living in a state without access to abortion.
I’m utterly terrified. I’m happier that it was just given back to the states, but I’m terrified of how our country will become. I can only see overpopulation, hunger, wars, unstable government, and a suffering country. If we want to ban abortions, then we need to make serious reforms. I’m thinking of stuff like
1. A better adoption/foster care system
2. More ways to farm and produce crops without the carbon footprint and such
3. Tackling inflation
4. Better healthcare, even if it is free!
5. Insurance reforms
6. Police reforms
7. Government reforms (like work together, yeesh)
8. Childcare and school reforms (if we gotta have a ton more people, then we’re going to need to make childcare and schools better. For example, raising the pay for teachers to above what an Aldi manager gets, and have better pay for daycare/childcare workers, and new laws protecting workers from those problems.)
9. Building reforms (better buildings, following more strict standards, and can handle more people, along with making more houses).
10. Better pay/lowering gas prices. (Where I live, it’s bad, but I’m more talking about tackling poverty so that families can provide needs.)
If we can’t support a growing country, then we’ll have a lot of trouble keeping a democracy. I may be pro life, but nothing good will happen without other changes.
You mean the states that are now making it illegal even if it would save the mother's life, illegal even if the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest. The only person who should have a say in whether a woman has an abortion or does anything with her body is her.
Mind your own uterus. Stay out of mine. Especially if you don’t have one.
I can’t believe they actually did it. What made them think it was the right choice. I’m scared for people.
Don't mind me, just passing through adding upvotes where you've been downvoted without a comment/reason. Nothing against downvoting, but if they aren't going to enter the discussion and share their opinion...
I am absolutely enraged.
I now have less rights than a corpse. I now have less rights than a gun. Just because of my biological sex.
It's disgusting, and now contraception and marriage equality are being targeted? We're really going backwards in time. America is not a Christian theocracy, or at least it shouldn't be. This is a violation of thousands of people's bodily autonomy and of their religious rights too.
It's utter and complete B******T no white male should have the right to choose what I can or can't do with my body.
I'm sad. On so many levels.
I had an abortion at 16, and it was the right decision FOR ME.
MY body.
MY future.
MY decision.
Was it hard to give up the child? No offense, but I’ve heard many things about after abortion… I’ve heard of people who felt immense guilt and had depression, wishing to have the child back, happiness, relief, and I’m wondering about you. I’ve never had an abortion, but I want to know. No offense, sorry if this offends you in any way! Edit: as someone got offended for my word choice, I originally wrote fetus but changed it to child.
Now, my opinion on this stems from confusion I think more than anything. Up until two days ago, I was under the impression the whole roe vs Wade thing was outright banning abortion all together. Now I've had more than one person tell me it was the banning of abortions past a certain time frame. (Like an abortion at 9 months pregnant type thing)
If it's only banning abortion past a certain point, I think I agree with that. A ninth month old baby is a living baby. No arguments, that's murder. I don't care what reasoning you could come up with.
But if they're banning abortion in general, even if "giving power to the states" changes that definition a little, I think it is absolutely the worst and quiet frankly stupidest thing they could choose to do.
I don't care if you support abortion or not (personally it depends on the situation for me) but the fact of the matter is, making it illegal isn't going to stop women from aborting. It's just going to make them do it in more dangerous ways. There's a REASON it became a clinical thing. Because coat hanger abortions were killing not just the baby but the woman as well. And what about kids? They think abortion banning is gonna lower the child deaths? I guarantee you not only are there gonna be diy abortions, but the suicide rate in teens is likely gonna rise. What about some poor little 14 year old that gets r*ped and ends up pregnant? Or the 16 year olds who were just so in love and had brilliant futures ahead of them, but they're parents are gonna kick them to the curb when they find out she's pregnant? It happens you know.
Illegalizing abortion is the absolute worst idea they could have.
It depends on the situation for me too. I tend to lean towards pro life though.
It's disturbing. Pregnancy is a big deal. Childbirth is a big deal. Nobody should have to go through it without consent.
I see a lot of pro-lifers misrepresent the issue as being only about "unwanted babies." Though continuing a pregnancy does usually result in a baby, and nobody should be forced to be a parent when they don't want to, adoption is not the solution. Continuing the pregnancy is not a passive or neutral option. The uterus is not just an incubator. A fetus is fed by or feeds off the parent's body. So it's not about killing it vs. keeping it as it is about expelling it vs. feeding it. If the parent doesn't get enough nutrition, the fetus will even take calcium from their bones. And then there's childbirth. Whether it takes the "natural" exit route or a C-section, it's a serious (and somewhat life-threatening) event that requires a long recovery.
So getting a(n elective) abortion doesn't have to be about not wanting a child. Not wanting a pregnancy or birth is a reason. A person can have an abortion while looking to adopt.
Whether or not a fetus is a life is an irrelevant debate. In no other case do we require a person to feed another person using their own body, even to save their life. (In fact, many pro-lifers aren't even willing to feed the hungry with their spare change.)
It's really, really bad. I don't like that the government is trying to control our bodies now, and I definitely don't like that they don't seem to give a flying f**k about how many women will die. In states where all abortions are banned, women who have life-threatening health issues related to birth will die. Also, any rape victims that get pregnant will have to give birth to what is essentially a living piece of emotional trauma. I have so many more thoughts and things to say, but I can't say all the words I want to properly right now because I'm super tired and can barely type.
Not a citizen of the USA (nor a woman), but I think you gone done f****d up!
Not just because it takes away the right for a person to do what they want with their own body, and that it seems to put religious views at the forefront of a political and legal matters (First Amendment anyone???).
My understanding of the original Roe vs Wade ruling was that it was decided based on the 'Unenumerated rights' part of the constitution (9th Amendment I think it was?). The potential consequence of overturning it places ALL Unenumerated Rights at risk. The supreme court had previously included the following as Unenumerated rights (amongst others):
The right to vote - Could be VERY dangerous if that went away!
Marital privacy - Fancy being compelled to testify against your loved one?
Right to travel - Wanna be told where you can and can't go?
Personal privacy - The humiliation you will suffer!
I'm really concerned that The USA is going backwards instead of being an progressive country. When I look at America over the last 10 years and see the divide growing in your country I often wonder how long it will be until you hit complete civil unrest, civil war or even a collapse of society.
Someone can correct me on this if needed, but I’m pretty sure that the first amendment is the freedom of speech.
Terrified. Anti-gay laws will be their next one.
I’m going to point this out again: only the chief Justice suggested it. Everyone else voted it down and put him in his place. The thing about the wording for gay rights is that it doesn’t compromise with murder. That’s what the Supreme Court was saying.
I am not from America, but am a woman(well, more or less, I mean I do have my period). I think this is sickening. I think the world is falling apart. We have this, a war in Ukraine, extreme problems with pollution... I don't even know what to do anymore, it's just so saddening to see this happen.
I’m scared for the future I feel like we are going to become overpopulated and it’s just not right. It’s a women's body, it should be her choice. This isn’t right.
I'm upset about it because I believe in body autonomy. People are still going to get abortions, but it prevents people from getting safe abortions in those red states were it is illegal. There is no middle ground anymore. Objectively speaking I don't think an abortion should be used as a form of birth control nor do I support abortion 3 months after gestation. I definitely don't support it when it's full term. On the other hand, I do support abortion in 3 instances. Rape, Incest, or if the mother's life is in danger. Now in Texas you are legally required to carry your rapist's baby, which is f***** up.
I am terrified. I’m scared of my state banning abortion, and terrified for anyone who has a uterus. Including myself.
I would also like to say, please include trans people in this conversation. I am transmasc, and I can get pregnant. I would love to join protests, but my dysphoria is to overpowering. Please, please, use inclusive language.
Making abortion illegal is the worse thing that has happened, it gives women no say about their own bodies and if they still want/need an abortion, they need to have a lot of money to go somewhere where it isn't illegal yet.
I'm so happy not living in the US, I'm originally from the Netherands and abortion has just made another step forward there, the 5 days reflection period is no longer obligated.
The thing is when politics start to take away rights from women, it's only the beginning of something bigger... now it's the right to have an abortion, next will be the right to use birthcontrol? Than maybe gay mariage? Then inter-racial marige? Than maybe the right to work full time if you have children? The right to get divorced?
I know these all sound far fetched, but it all starts with one thing, like a domino....
My heart goes out to all those women who are now forced to have babies they never wanted, they can't feed, they can't give a good life. they can't give a future...
All those women who are now punished for getting pregnant, however they became pregnant are now convicted for life :'(
Please hear me out here, I think it's a good thing. We are being forced to talk about the issue here, but unfortunately everyone is losing their minds and flying to the extreme edge opinions. You shouldn't be forced to carry a pregnancy until it kills you, but you also shouldn't be allowed to abort a fully formed and functional baby because you don't feel like having a kid right now. This is an enormously complex issue that needs to be examined in depth and blanket laws that ban or allow it are not appropriate. The power going back to the states will allow an opportunity for abortion to be truly looked into for the first time in a long time. Let's see this opportunity to provide better support for pregnant women, better access to adoption, better contraceptive healthcare, and a myriad of other things that would reduce the demand for abortion in the first place. I am a pro-life Christian who wouldn't be here today if my mom's ectopic pregnancy hadn't been aborted. Let's talk about this like adults.
I’ll get hate for this but:
Regardless of your views on abortion, it was the right call. There is no constitutional right to abortion, and therefore power should go to state legislation. Id the legislation makes laws against it, they’re the problem, not the SCOTUS
People are all upset about this. The informed though know that this puts the abortion issue up to each state to decide what to do. The federal government should never have been the decision maker for this. The UNINFORMED are the ones who are rioting, protesting and destroying property over this. Does that make any sense! NO !!!
