I thought my 90 y.o great grandma was joking when she asked if i wanted a kitten. Well she wasnt and the best part is right after my mom spent 20 minutes explaining to me why we cant have another pet my great grandpa calls her and tells her to come get my kitten...

After a tornado in our area a lot of pets escaped their home. One day I was eating my breakfast and saw something run through our sliding glass door. I went to go see what it was and it was a kitten. Me and my family sent out fliers about a lost pet but no one claimed him so we ended up keeping him. We’ve had him for about 4 years now

My uncles GSDs had puppies. I always had dogs and I always wanted to have a GSD but I was waiting for me and my partner to be a bit more stable. We told to ourselves that we would adopt one if he ever had them again. The next year (and same month) the female had a second litter. We couldnt say no a second time.

Phone call from a friend's mom. She used to work at a machine shop that had a resident yard cat. She was usually preggo around the same time each year from some Tom around the way, and she had opted to deliver her litter in one of their shipping crates. Took a drive and looked in the box and this little blue-eyed fella walks up my arm and onto my shoulder, nuzzles me, then walks down the other and nudges at his little Tuxedo brother. Took them both home.

All pets my family had were adopted one way or another, mostly all of them found us and we had no choice but to take them in, as for our most recent pet (our cat) my mom found him hungry, all alone, and crying without anyone around him, he would've died if not for my mom, so she decided to take him in, and he's been with us for the last 4 years.

We got our cat one day before the first wave of lockdown happened. We flirted with the idea of getting a cat for a month or so, and constantly visited her. It dawned on us that our cat's fate will be uncertain since everything was getting closed, so we shotgunned the idea and adopted her. And that's that!

It's really upsetting how many people adopt a guinea pig and don't realize how much space, love, attention, and care that they need as well as the fact they should have a friend.

I always have two guinea pigs at a time. When unfortunately one passes away I see if anyone's trying to get rid of a neglected guinea pig or I adopt from an animal shelter. Never a pet store.

It really seems like guinea pigs that come from these situations realize how much better they have it with me and they've been adorable cuddle bugs who love being held and pet. Their previous owners really missed out.

I got my pitbull at the pound, but I got my chihuahua in an interesting story: So, my Mom right now is a nurse, a nurse that works for the county. She used to actually visit patient's homes instead of them going there. One of her patients had a dog that just had a litter of puppies, and they didn't want the runt because it was "ugly." We ended up adopting the chihuahua which we named Tink. Yes, she's a small dog, smallest of the smallest, but she ACTS like a big dog.

Found my cat in one of our local animal shelters. He had been there for 6 months and was really trying to get our attention. He has been with us for the last 3 years.

My dad got her as a surprise... my mom had no idea till 2 days before (she didn’t want a dog) my and my siblings had done a ton of research and we were absolutely prepared to love and care for a puppy but we had no idea she was coming! Apparently my dad FaceTimed with her every night before she came... guess who’s her favorite....

My mom answered an ad in the local paper for puppies. The woman selling them turned off her phone, and then got mad when my mom "didn’t call her back." We spent all day tracking these people down, drove to the next state over in the middle of the night, and waited in a sketchy parking lot for them to show up. Best part was the puppy we got wasn’t even the right breed, but I was seven and didn’t care. Lucy is still here nearly fourteen years later.

Not mine, but the family cat. My dad said he never wanted a new cat (we had an old one at that time) or other pet because it costs money and it's annoying when going on vacation. He and my mom went to visit friends and their cat had two kittens. He instantly fell in love with the orange one and he changed his mind. Now we have a super cute half Norwegian Forest.
