People calling things out as cultural appropriation are racist.
If you're saying that only certain races can eat a certain food, wear certain cloths, have certain hairstyles what you are advocating for is racial segregation.

That was done before and most people can agree it was a bad idea.

No one is saying not to eat another cultures food. It's about someone taking something hundred or thousands of years old, putting a spin on it and then saying they "improved" it for whatever dominant culture or made it "less weird" or "palatable" for main stream. Also without referencing or giving credit to the original culture. That white woman calling herself the Congee queen is appropriation. Anyone just lovin some rice porridge is appreciation and more the merrier.

If I was the mayor of my little town, I'd have secret town ordinances made up every so often - random, silly ones - that nobody knows, and if you violate that ordinance you get a prize rather than a punishment. You know, like using the secret word on a game show.

I have so many ideas for those right now.

It sure seems to me that the u.s politicians that are all about the 2nd amendment are actively working on making this country more dangerous. The daranged man in California used a mac-10. A freaky mac -10. You dont use that to hunt. What the hell are we doing here? Im all for hunting but this is completely insane. No arguement is valid to support keeping the weapons out there.

A fairly good argument could be made that the 2nd amendment applies to militia members only, and therefore, as the modern equivalent of a militia, only the National Guard/military reservists should be allowed to own weapons. But, regular citizens shouldn't.

do you mean it like fighting hate with hate? because if so I don't agree. One hates the other (in these cases a POC or a woman) for existing, the other hates the first one for hurting them. Those hatreds aren't equal.

#15

If someone believes in a religion, people need to be respectful of it. If someone is using their religion as a means to hurt others, chances are the message of the religion has been twisted and the person's actions are inpired by themselves. So criticize the actions of the person. Not the religion.

If religious people need to be respectful of people who choose not to believe, it must work the other way too.

To those who say, "religion has caused so much conflict", I say I agree. But religion itself did nothing. It is a dangerous interpretation of it that likely led to conflict. And besides, even if religions never existed, people would have just found some other reason to fight and kill.

So many times across this site I find such a deep hatred for religion, people just being nasty for almost no reason. My heart aches for all the people who have been pained in a way that they want to stay away from religion. Too many people use religon for personal gain rather than to uphold most of the common values of serving and helping others. This is what drives people away.

But there are still those of us who are trying to uphold those values. Those of us who are trying to uphold the values of honesty, humility, and integrity. The value of helping one another. The value of "there is no compulsion in religion". Values that have been muddled for so long that people forget they exist. And it really is disheartening and discouraging when you see all your efforts to mend the broken image of religion do down the drain when the other person just isn't ready to understand, and take any chance to take a jab at religion more than is due.

As a female, I think some others have taken feminism WAYY too far.

Like women always telling men “Count your days” “We don’t need you”
“All men _____”
Just stop. The people who do that are worse than how they say women are treated.
I’m all for EQUALITY, but not female supremacy. Or male supremacy. Or anyone else supremacy unless it is a very lovable animal that is a good boy/girl.
For the earth to keep populating, we need both men and women. We both have it hard.

Yea, I know people see it other ways and all, but for real, if a HUMANS legs got ran over, would you shoot them? Probably not, right? But if it's an ANIMAL it's injuries means it's not allowed to live? Like, help it and give it a chance to live, don't just deam it as just an "animal" and kill it because it's hurt. But, yea. That's my hot take for today :P

I don't know if I would put an animal through operations, pain and therapy which I can not explain to them. There are situations in which "we can" does not mean " we should". I am not saying don't try to help the animal but try taking their perspective. There is pain, fear, lonelyness at the vet, ... for a potential life in pain.

I disagree. My dog broke her shoulder just walking down a step the wrong away. She was really old and our only options were to put her in a cast, amputate the leg, or just keep her drugged forever. The first two would have forced her to put all her weight on her other leg, which would be bad. We didn't want her life to be living in a bed and being picked up to go poo and eat, essentially helpless. So we put her down. I believe we made the right choice, she lived a long and amazing life and I could not watch her go through pain and suffering in the end.

going off what the two other people said, I think you should take an animal to a vet before deciding what to do 100%. If it's saveable without major therapy and stuff, save the animal. If it's not, and it's more likely to live it's life in pain, I think we should put the animal down. Humans are sometimes selfish. We want to pet to be here for us, so sometimes we don't think about the animals quality of life.

In the op's case, dad either couldn't afford or didn't want to pay the vet bill. But as animal caretakers we do need to keep in mind that they don't understand pain and their quality of life. A lazy lap cat can get by with a disability that would be horrible for the mental health of an avid hunter. We need to make sure our decisions to extend animal life is really for their benefit and not ours.

Apparently people here don't know what these are. Most of the posts are standard views shared on BP. The only hot take here is the one about shooting feral cats. The rest are pretty standard, or troll posts. People the post was about you giving your hot take. It was not about getting points for approval. What's the point of getting people to give their hot takes and then they get taken down by downvotes??

Not just Dictatorship, Anarchy, and probably several other evils I can't think of. People have had about 50,000 years to try a lot of different kinds of governments. Of the ones that have survived democracy is still the best option. Something that sounds good but doesn't work (some of our current laws) is not a good idea.

Here's a controversial one:
Women don't get @bortions because they don't want the baby. They get them because it's easier to hide. It's easier than dealing with the stares and comments from others when you tell them you're putting it up for adoption.

I would argue and say that every woman is different and their decisions are their own but the real reasons why women get abortions are: the pregnancy is medically unsafe for the woman, the fetus is non viable, mother and father or just mother is unable to provide whether that be financially or emotionally, OR SHE JUST DOESN'T WANT TO BE A MOTHER. Adoption is not always the better alternative. Especially when the foster care system is so horrendous and many kids are still waiting to be adopted.
