Jambalaya!
I'm not Cajun or from New Orleans. I really want to visit and get some real Jambalaya! My mom makes it for me, homemade. I'd highly recommend trying it.
That's OK. The neat thing about New Orleans is, we don't care where your from. We love everyone. We are a mixing pot of every culture. You can be an honorary Cajun if you like. We'd love to have you!
Load More Replies...I also just ate, I've been craving some jambalaya for a while. Alas, tonight was chimkin. Still good, not as good as jambalaya sounds right now.
Load More Replies...I wonder if this is something like what we call Pelau in the Caribbean.
It looks very similar, also very good. I live in North America, so I haven't heard of that one yet. It seems delicious.
Load More Replies...I need to taste this heavenly looking thing right now, and by right now, I mean RIGHT NOW!!
I had to look that one up, that looks really good!

WANT TO TRY KNIDDELEN (aka Luxembourgish Dumplings)? Trick question; who wouldn't want to try these homemade dumplings served in a bacon cream sauce?! The recipe to accompany the above image is available at https://tarasmulticulturaltable.com/kniddelen-luxembourgish-dumplings/

Golden Brown Fried Cheese, Potatoes, Tartar Sauce From The Czech Republic
There’s nothing better than a crispy crust on the slice of melted bubbly cheese.
Marionberry Crisp (Oregon, USA)
Marionberries are a blackberry varietal cultivated in Oregon. Delicious in their fresh, raw form the "comfort" arrives when topped with an oatmeal + brown sugar + butter crumble and baked to crispy perfection. (Just say no to the stodgy, gluey cobbler biscuit.) ///// For added delight, scoop some local vanilla ice cream from either Umpqua or Tillamook Creameries. ///// The recipe to accompany the borrowed photo is available at Crumbs Above Gold food blog. https://crumbsabovegold.wordpress.com/2015/08/05/foraged-wild-marionberry-crisp/
Fried Potatoes, Pinto Beans, And Corn Bread. Southern USA
My mom grew up in the 60s in a holler in West Virginia. She told me stories about dinner that gave you the pick of fried potatoes, beans, and cornbread OR beans, potatoes, and cornbread. For months on end in the winter when the canned foods and preserved meat ran out.
Shepherd's Or Cottage Or Farmer's Pie
I only ever knew this as shepherd's pie, but apparently that's only if you use ground lamb, for some folk. My lazy American Midwest recipe: well seasoned ground beef, mixed veggies, brown or pan gravy, mashed potatoes, cheese. With biscuits!
Nakkikastike! Finnish Hot Dog Style Sausages In A Creamy Tomato And Onion Sauce
Definately going to try this with the family. Something new/ different from another region.
Chicken And Dumplings
Tamagoyaki
Dillmeat (Stew Of Veal, Dill Sauce, Potatoes, Carrots)
I wish submitters would let us know where their food comes from. I'm going to guess this is from a Scandinavian country.
Zuni Oven Bread
this Is Done Delicately. The Bread Is Made Is Large Quantities. Then It Left To Rise For At Least 30 Mins To An Hour. Once Dough Has Risen The Ladies Shape The Bread. Once Made Into Their Unique Shapes They Go Into An Oven That Is Build Outside. Horno Oven...this Oven Takes Time To Build As Well. This Bread Is Often Served Or Made During Religious Ceremonies. Bawan- Glutinous Taiwan Meatballs!
The sauce on it makes it sweet and salty, the glutinous rice layer is really chewy and warm :D
Ohagi
I don't live in Japan^^) I get this from a local Japanese shop that makes it from scratch, I don't want anyone to get confused :') But this is my favorite comfort food
Patat Mét & Frikandel Speciaal
There is a fine line between snacks and comfort food, but I do think most Dutchies think of fries with mayo and a frikandel (some sort of fried sausage) with curry, mayo and onions as comfort food.
Potthucke
Karam Podi Rice (Rice With A Powder Made Of A Blend Of Pulses And Spices)
Roast Lamb With Mint Sauce, Nz
Skewers!
Buffalo Chicken Wings
Rainy Days Staple: Instant Noodle Soup With Egg, Chilli, And Choy Sum
Milo
While not strictly a “Food”… every Aussie kid (big and small) knows that if you get the Milo to Vanilla Ice Cream ratio juuussst right… it might as well be… Plus, you can satisfy some serious emotional eating with just a tin of Milo and a spoon!
The Maroilles Tart. A Delight
Lebanese Molokhia
BUT WHAT IS MOLOKHIA? The interwebs say it is a stew made from jute mallow leaves (aka nalta jute, tossa jute, Jew's Mallow) and shredded chicken cooked in a lemony broth and served over rice. ——— WANT TO TRY IT YOURSELF? The recipe to accompany the above photo is at https://feelgoodfoodie.net/recipe/molokhia/ ——— Google Lens gets credit for finding this recipe through reverse image search.
Luchi & Chhola'r Daal (Fried Puffed Bread With Bengal Gram Cooked With Coconut And Raisins)
The ultimate comfort food for us, Bengalis. Any day, any time. It plays a key role in uplifting the mood instantly. Tastes 'heavenlier' when the meal ends with a majestic bite of 'roshogolla'.
Green Banana Coucou
It is the national dish of Barbados. It's my mum's definition of comfort food and as such I grew up eating it despite it not being "regional" it is a staple at West Indian restaurants though many Trinidad restaurants make the cornmeal variant, Jamaican and Bajan restaurants make the banana variant with some alterations based on fish availability here (ie. Salmon or cod instead of flying fish).
Pie Floater Australia
This resembles the Yorkshire Pie ‘n’ Pea supper (with plenty of salt and vinegar) - although over the border in Lancashire you have to add pickled red cabbage
Shredded Chicken Sandwiches
My mom makes these as ‘special tiffin’ strictly to be served at exactly 9 AM on every Sunday in the exact same dishes or the world will end
I love how all the comments have been respectful / supportive. Well done BP users.

Jewish comfort foods (sticking with what we actually invented vs foods that have been adopted into our identity like brisket): -Chicken soup with matzo balls and fine egg noodles. If yoj don't have this every Friday night meal I don't know what's wrong with you. -cholent. An overnight stew made for sabbath that is foundationally meat, potatoes, barley, beans and onion with seasoning varying from family to family. Somehow more comforting when you sneak a portion out of the crockpot in the middle of the night. -potato kugel. A sort of potato casserole based with shredded potato and onion and beaten eggs, cooked for ages until soft and heavenly. Amazing with cholent on top
Pacific NW (USA) clam chowder, fish & chips. Not necessarily regional , but my go to comfort food is meatloaf with mashed potatoes.
My favourite comfort food is cooked kale with many meats and sausages with groats in it, and of course potatoes. A traditional nothern German winter food, delicious!!
Hast du schon mal Grünkohl-Graupen-Suppe mit Zitronen probiert? So lecker!
Load More Replies...Probably gonna gross people out now but take 2 weetabix, pour milk over and microwave until hot through, then add 2 tsp sugar and about 2-3 tablespoons of cheerios or wheetos (your choice). Mix until it looks like concrete. And enjoy. The perfect winter warmer breakfast. For context I invented this as a student but it hits the mark every time.
I would do it without the cheerios, but otherwise it is a great winter breakfast (though we call it weet-bix in Oz)
Load More Replies...Dang Pandas, I just had lunch... Why did y'alls have to make me hungry again? :-) Everything looks scrumptious by the way so I wouldn't blame anyone for having cravings after reading this.
Cucoq kodok is my favorite comfort food. Kueh Taik Itik too but I find it to be too sweet for my taste.
Most of my comfort foods in Australia come from other cultures, as e are so multicultural, but cheese and Vegemite toasted sandwiches/jaffles are particularly Australian.
Disappointed Rhode Island isn't represented. Hot wieners and coffee milk ftw!!!
