There are two types of people in the creativity department: those who have great big-brain ideas, and those who mooch off the brilliance. There's a guy I know (and have to sit next to a lot, even as I'm writing this) who copied basically everything for a comic idea I had, and he's officially my least favorite person. On top of being an overall jerk, he hasn't had one original idea for what I can only call a rip-off. So, can you think of a time someone did this to you?

I wouldn't particularly call this "stealing my idea" but it was definitely a coincidence to end all coincidences.

I love creating fictional worlds and characters. Usually I base them around worlds in a particular blocky game. When I was younger, I had a specific world/project named Elementia. I know, not really original, but wait a second. One day, I was walking through my library and I see a book. A book ABOUT a story taking place in the game called ELEMENTIA. I couldn't believe it. I actually had to google it recently to see if it was just my imagination but nope, it was real. Ticks me off to this day.

Years ago, in a manic state, I got the idea for a board game. I spent the whole night writing and sketching. (I have bipolar disorder). Many days passed in a rather euphoric mood and one evening I ended up in a bar popular with artists and other strange types and stupidly told about my idea there. A couple of years later I came across a board game based on my idea. So don't talk about your ideas to anyone. I had forgotten my game idea because that often happens when you get out of a manic state. I have a whole folder full of half-finished weird ideas.

There was this guy at school who somehow found a draft of my 1500 word composition and copied it pretty much word by word. He had to present it befor my turn came so when we gave the same speech everybody thought I was the one who copied it.
It was a nightmare dealing with the teachers for the first day but then I hoarded my alibis and got out of the suspense and found the credit I deserved.
P.S- My speech was among the top three throughout the event.

For my grade 8 Christmas thing at school, we were going to create the silhouettes of the classic nativity scene.
We didn’t have anything for a stable, so I said “What if we used the whiteboards?” But the teacher wasn’t there, so me and my friend went to go tell her the idea.
My friend walked up to the teacher with confidence and said “MY idea was that we use the whiteboards for the stable!” The teacher said “What a great idea!” The entire time my friend got congratulated for the great idea. 😒

Many years ago, I tried having an Instagram account. I've never been very trendy or tech savvy, I'm kind of old fashioned but I thought I'd try for fun. I was pretty active, liking and commenting on other people's stuff and getting followers of my own. This one girl started to follow me and she had thousands of followers and I was almost flattered until I checked her out and saw she had copied my photos. One that I posed with all my pill bottles that got me a few clicks that she copied (poorly) got her hundreds of clicks.
That was one of the main reasons I quit most social media. I don't want to be social with people like that

Yes and I actually feel good about it. I've had some ideas at work, people copied the solutions and they are happy. I'm not mad, I don't expect them to praise me or anything, it's great that it works for them too. But I recognise that in art area things of real value essentially have to be unique, so it is a different situation.
