Omm, I accidentally pressed the post button, I forgot to include this: What made you an atheist, and how does it affect your life?

i'm alright, the reason i'm an atheist is that I was just so pissed off by the homophobia of religion that I left all of it

I always was. I was not raised religious (nor atheist), and that was the logical path I followed on my own. Because of this, seeing religion from the outside did help my choice of never following it.

    1. How do you deal with the meaning and reason for existence? 2. What do you think happens to you when you die? 3. Do you ever get homesick for somewhere else? Like an intense sense of not belonging? How do you deal with that?

    1) I believe we're no more than a random accident of existence... so just enjoy and don't harm others. Make your own goals and reasons to live. 2) Nothing. You just banish and will be forgotten in a few years just like almost everyone. 3) I had that sense of "not belonging" in my home country. So, I moved.

    1) I think that existence is most likely a random coincidence, but isn’t it beautiful that we’re able to experience consciousness, even though we may not have a true reason to be here? 2) I think when we die, we just stop existing just like a rock or a piece of cheese, we no longer have thoughts or feelings so we should live life to enjoy it, not to fulfill the wants of some higher power or to get to the possible paradise of an afterlife. 3) The more I ponder religion the less I believe in it. I feel like I belong with my friends and family. Religious communities try to convince you that religion is what makes us belong but we all belong to the beautiful community of humanity and that is a fact. (Disclaimer: I am more agnostic than an atheist, because I think we might have a sentient creator, but if I was told that I had to believe something, I would not believe in a God)

Does it ever bother you that the absence of God means that much of the injustice and hurt in this world will go unpunished?

If god is all-powerful, it also means that the injustice of this world is also his will. Life is not fair, nature is not fair, the universe doesn't care about you. Yes, somethings go unpunished. Once a criminal dies, any punishment he deserved in life will never happen.

Yes, but there is the possibility of a just God despite how unfair life is. Isn't there some hope for religious people in the fact that m*rders or child rap*sts and stuff will be punished even if our human systems are unjust and flawed?

How do you feel about any religion in general? Do you believe that religion reflects on a person's personalities, if so how does that affect you during first impressions?

if they're hyper-religious, you can tell in the first meeting. if they're mildly religious, it'll be noticeable later

I think religion is useful to some people, but I find it hard to believe based on what I know about psychology and personal experience. Unless someone is hyper-religious I find that religion doesn’t affect their 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 too much. It may affect their view on the world and choice of topic for certain conversations but overall personality is not really affected by religion. An interesting point that I will bring up, however, is that I don’t find religious people to be any nicer or more secure than non-religious people, which may come as a surprise to some people who follow a religion.

I misread the question, so I answer it here. It depends on how seriously they take it. You usually notice the difference between someone who just quietly believes in God, and someone who goes to church every Sunday. But again, it doesn't show in the same way in everyone.
