"This is my step-dad and I. I'm German, and my mother married him when I was 4 years old. He was only 18. He raised me better than my own mother or father did, even through a nasty divorce where he was cheated on by her. Even with all the racism and stereotypes I heard when we were out together, he didn't let it faze him and proudly proclaimed me as his daughter. Thankfully he is still there for me when I need him"

"I have a confession to make. I would not know Jon Bor Jovi if he walked in this building. I cannot name a single song he has ever recorded. It's not that I don't like him or his music, I have just never really been exposed to it. This superstar is washing dishes at one of his JBJ Soul Kitchen restaurants that feed the homeless. They're still cooking. Still making food for those in need during these uncertain times. And instead of disappearing to wait out the pandemic in a fancy penthouse somewhere, Jon Bon Jovi is showing up to be a dishwasher. Now THAT's what it means to be a rock star."

Bored Panda got in touch with Charles de Vilmorin, CEO and Co-founder of “Old People Are Cool,” an organization dedicated to changing the way people see the elderly. First and foremost, we wanted to hear if there was a story behind him creating the group.

“Yes! I was meeting with a professor in New Hampshire and saw these 4 words graffiti on a wall; driving back I thought I had seen something awesome that day. I printed stickers and handed them out at a Senior Living trade show where we were exhibiting. People were rushing to get them and we started having amazing conversations. This has then led to the start of the Old People Are Cool campaign to fight ageism.”

Naturally, we were then interested to learn more about ageism and general misconceptions about the elderly. So we asked Charles to give some examples of what many people misunderstand or get wrong about older folks. For example “They aren't happy, it's the reverse, see the happiness curve,” he suggested.

This refers to the idea that, for most people, their 40s tend to be their most unhappy years, while joy actually increases as the person gets older. This doesn’t necessarily mean an actually higher quality of life, just the self-perception of happiness. You can think of it as a U-shaped curve, with high happiness at the start and at the end.

Borderline personality disorder is very real and very misunderstood. People with BPD can live productive, normal, healthy lives. They aren't crazy, just dealing with a mental illness. We need to get over the stigma with mental health already.

I think the way it's portrayed in tv/movies has a lot to do with it, but is also the way the stigma could be altered if they made changes.

As I got better I vowed myself to show the world that you can be a good human being even with BPD. I reconciled with my family and helped them to get better, I try to give everyone a smile or a nice word and now work as personal assistant for elderly people so they can stay at home and do what they always liked to do. And yeah, I take care of 4 cats that live on my family's property and were pretty malnourished (I'm not a cat person, but they deserve proper care) The stigma around this illness is insane.

This one isn't so touching to me. I have 2 other friends who went into nursing for similar reasons. Both wanted to work in mental health, and both of them gave up on that very quickly when they saw how f****d the system is and realized there's nothing they can do to genuinely help people. I would guess she had a similar exoerienc.

Yeah, I tried to get myself diagnosed, only for my therapist to say I don't have it and blame it on the Internet :( Editing this- I really do believe I have it, and I wasn't officially diagnosed, only my therapist saying I don't have it despite very obvious symptoms, saying that it happens because of trauma and doesn't affect people that aren't adults. And so I couldn't go get diagnosed for it.

This happened here in Houston. One of the charges against him was dropped and by the time he made it to sentencing they gave him time served and let him go. What he did was extreme obviously, but he was right when he says the hospital was moving too fast and making decisions without the input of his family (they were even already notifying transplant patients that they had his son's organs lined up for them before they even started the process of removing him from life support). My heart goes out to this man for what he must have been going through emotionally at that time.
