Russia Just Invaded Ukraine And People Are Going Online To Let Others Know How Scary It Is (30 Posts)
Everyone was hoping that this day wouldn’t come, everyone was scared that it probably would. This morning, on February 24, 2022 at 6 AM (Moscow time), Putin announced that Russia invaded Ukraine. World countries one after another are condemning this attack and High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of EU Commission, Josep Borrell Fontelles, considers these events “among the darkest hours of Europe since the Second World War.”
As the world is watching all of this unfold, Ukrainians and other people in the country are experiencing it. The internet is now full of reports of what is happening and some people have shared their own thoughts and feelings of being woken up by explosions. Bored Panda collected some of the personal messages that were shared to represent what people in Ukraine didn't sign up for but have to endure.
Many people would like to help Ukraine but they don't know how. The National Bank of Ukraine opened up a special account to raise funds for Ukraine’s Armed Forces which is UA843000010000000047330992708 and if you could donate anything that would be great help to support the country. You can find more information following this link to the official page of National Bank of Ukraine.

This whole hell started with Russia deploying military troops at the Ukrainian border last year, saying that they were just doing some military training. More and more soldiers and military equipment were brought to the border and everyone was starting to worry that this could grow into a conflict.
After unfruitful discussions and trying out diplomatic measures, the conversation with Russia’s president Vladimir Putin failed and he declared war against Ukraine. But you could say that Russia has been at war with Ukraine since 2014 when Russia occupied Crimea and the time in between was just a brief break.
Wars always end with too many people dying, countries being left ruined economically and morally, so good leaders try to avoid them by any means possible. There has to be a good reason if someone is prepared to make their country and another country go through this.
Some might say that there is no good reason as in the modern world we should be able to communicate with words without having people killed. It is hard to disagree that the reasons behind Ukraine’s invasion are meaningless and reading through people’s messages who have to witness the explosions makes you understand how horrible it is.
Various political reviewers are trying to make sense of Putin’s madness and have explained that he really didn’t like the fact that Ukraine wants to become part of NATO. Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy realizes how dangerous it is to have such a neighbor as Russia, especially after the events in 2014, so he wanted to have allies who would help when his country was in need.
Putin intervened and expressed his dissatisfaction and actually accused NATO of trying to convince Ukraine to join the alliance so that they could have their troops closer to the Russian border. He claimed that NATO is being the aggressor by not agreeing to fulfill his request. For some reason, it bothers the president of Russia that Ukraine wants to be westernized, join NATO, join the EU and free themselves from the influence of Russia.
It could be rooted in Putin’s understanding that Ukrainians are actually Russians, as last year, he described the two countries as one nation because the Soviet Union was the one who created Ukraine.
Even though there could be lots of speculation about how Putin feels and many interpretations of his words, there are some specific demands he presented to the Western countries that would make him stop.
He asked for a legally binding pledge that NATO won’t include Ukraine in their alliance; otherwise, where would Russia retreat in a conflict with the US. He also called for the countries who don’t acknowledge Crimea as part of Russia to change their stance.
The West couldn’t fulfill those demands because they violate their core values. The situation escalated and since the first explosions in the eastern part of Ukraine, the situation is changing every minute.
Ukraine has a very big and powerful enemy, but they have many friends too. NATO plans on increasing its presence in Eastern Europe, but Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said they won’t be sending troops to Ukraine.
Democratic countries of the world are declaring sanctions to weaken Russia’s economy. They will be sending weapons and equipment for Ukraine and providing financial assistance as well as humanitarian assistance.
It is important to protect Ukraine as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis said on his Twitter, “We in Lithuania know it very well that Ukraine is fighting not just for Ukraine, but for us in the region, Europe and everyone in the democratic world. It is our obligation not just to punish Russia for its actions but to help Ukraine with all and every means available.”
It is safe to say that we all wish for it to end as soon as possible and for Ukraine to survive this in one piece. Слава Україні!

Words cannot describe the level of tragedy and heartache Putin's senile actions bring. I am heartbroken for Ukraine, but also regular Russian people who are unwillingly dragged into this horrible mess. Today I take to streets in protest of this insanity, along with my brothers and sisters from all over the world.
We all realize this isn't the Russian people, this is one man's narcissism. No one is blaming you guys at all. We know what going on. I feel terrible for Putin dragging soldiers into HIS war (just like what happened here in the US with Vietnam)
Load More Replies...We in Poland are also scared. We don't believe that Putin will stop at Ukraine. Our goverment, while evil, hateful and incompetent, are setting refugee centers near the border. We are preparing to take as many Ukrainian brothers and sisters as we can
I also don't believe he will stop there. I think he wants to build back the USSR bigger than ever. Crimea was a test and the West failed it - the West stood by 'in protest' as Russia invaded. They next moved onto other parts of Ukraine, stoked fires, and now insist upon all of Ukraine. This is a repeat of Czechoslovakia in 1938; Germany sought to recover 'ethnic Germans' and 'historical German land' there, so he invaded while justifying it to the Western powers. Even though this was a direct violation of the Treaty of Versailles, the west (led by British PM Chamberlain) bought his 'justification' and decided to allow it just to avoid war. As we know now...tolerating an invasion doesn't prevent a war, it allows it. Sanctions will not be enough.

Thank you brother, we are need it, I would also like to reassure you that Dictator Putin and his little green boys are not take us, they are not going get into Kyiv until all of us are dead.

The western world should sanction Russia to the extent we sanction North Korea.

No one was ready to see this hell actually take place in 2022. WW3 jokes are not funny anymore; they have become the real-life "what-ifs".
Sane leaders do. Putin doesn't fall into that category, not by a long shot. Someone needs to take that f****r out, for the safety and sanity of all nations.
Load More Replies...I am crying right now. It is so unbelievable that one mans hybris and narcissism can bring so much fear and pain to so many innocent people! But to answer war with more war will not solve any of this. It just will make the world burn. I' m out of words ...
Shushadei, We have lived with evil narcissism in the US for 5 years. At least a million people will die here, caused by Trump's malicious ignorance.
Load More Replies...I'm reading these with disbelief and horror. And anger. No one on either side will gain from this aggression. It's horrifying.
My heart is with everyone. I sit here and cry. Almost 30 years ago me personally was sent to USSR 3 times in peace-keeping missions. Bringing food and medicine. I saw for my own eyes what war does to its citizens. As I sit and look at the world map, I zoomed out to see the bigger picture, to see what could possibly be the reason for this invasion. I sincerely hope I'm wrong, but if Puttin takes the Ukraine, that leaves Turkey and Kazakhstan. If he tries one of those next, then he's going for the oil in the middle east. He's gonna try to control the world through controlling oil. Stop this crazy man. I'm to old to fight now. May God bless the people of the Ukraine and keep them safe! We can't let Putin win. My heart is with you. Stay safe
Putin are not going to conquer us, my brothers and I are fight hard, evil never wins.
Load More Replies...Nearly 83 years ago my country and my ancestors decided to declare war and to attack a sovereign country. They brought suffering, pain and death not only to our country or Europe, but to the entire world and caused the death of 60 million people. Since the end of this war we were told and taught that this insanity must not happen again. Time has passed, guilty people died and even people like me, born 35 years after this war, have to feel ashamed for incidents that happened long time before we were born, and are judged from time to time and are remembered of our historical responsibility, by the british, the americans, the french, the greek, the italians, the polish and so many other people, .........and the russians. !Never start a war of agression! We live now in 2022 and the persons who are leading our countries and our world have still learned nothing and try their best to repeat the worst times of history, including the russians. God bless Ukraine and every peace loving human.
Russians berating the Germans for their ancestors is a really good one. Like they have never started a war of aggression before now. In 1939 they stabbed Poland in the back only 16 days after Hitler invaded from the west.
Load More Replies...why is putin not prosecuted like sadam hussein, osama bin laden, etc. he is a criminal and should be held accountable.
Because Putin is way more powerful and less predictable. And therefore we need to be careful not to drag the Russian people (and ourselves for that matter) into world war 3

When you feel helpless as an American to such a horrible tragedy such as this all I can do is offer prayers. Just letting others know that they are being heard and supported may be the only way of light they can see at this time. So downvote away if you must but I will continue posting and praying without ceasing until this is over.
I always upvoted you, each one, and thank you for posting each time in the name of all .... Edit: All the people who are behind the Ukraine, be it the USA, Europe or any where else in the world.

I've told it to the US leaders, but Putin *would* nuke, and nobody else would, so he wins, the mfer. Also, no population is ready for war ----- and they're scared. I get it. I'm scared, and I'm in the US! But we have to decide ----- do we hvea the will? Or don't we? If ew don't, Russia wont's top at Ukraine. hey never have in thep ast. As a Russian citizen and partly Ukrainian by blood, the grief is real. It is a day of great sorrow, with more to come. Putin is dishonouring the Russian nation before our blood brothers in Eastern Europe. Many Russians have fallen for his paranoid pro-imperial propaganda, but they are misguided and brainwashed. And they are also afraid because to stand up to him never ends well. We do not benefit from this war, it is not in our interest, we have no reason to want it. It is a total collapse of civilised conduct. I am so sorry
Im currently in Barcelona right now and I just past by a young couple with their (13yo?) daughter who were walking down the street with an Ukrainian flag. I asked them whether they were Ukrainian and they said yes so I hugged them and gave them all my moral support. They started to cry. 😩
As a 13 yo myself, I can't imagine the plight of all the kids there. I can't imagine being in such a dangerous situation, and facing death at such a young age. I wish them all the best and ill include them in my prayers for sure. As an Indian, this is all I'm able to do right now.
Load More Replies...If Putin succeeds with Ukraine, it is just a matter of time before he continues to expand his ambitions to include other sovereign nations that were one annexed under the USSR. If the UN, NATO and all free countries are not ready to defend Ukraine and crush Russia with all possible sanctions, Putin will just keep going. If China is willing to be Russia's ally in this illegal expansion, all of us need to be very, very worried about what this means for all of Europe and Asia, and soon the rest of the world.
You absolutely put your finger on the pulse...Putin and China are in this to-gether.China cannot stand Taiwan is no part of them anymore, and have for years been building man-made islands in the South China Sea that will serve as launch-pads for their missiles. We are seeing the Butterfly effect unfolding and it will be ugly. Seems callous to say,but Ukraine is the 2nd step in a much larger plan,Crimeia was the 1st and sadly no-one really noticed. Poland are rightfully worried and the other Baltic states as well....even Denmark is painfully aware of the invasion of Bornholm in 45 by the Russians.Because weakened by the war they had to abandon their plan for a foot in the Baltic Sea. North Corea, with the help of China could very well take advantage and invade South Corea.God Help Us All !!
Load More Replies...This is so...sad. No one wants a war (except Putin), but realistically there's no other solution. Sanctions? HA! Toothless meaningless mouth noises that do nothing. Putin isn't going to stop because he gets a "strongly worded" nastygram from NATO, or the UN. History is pretty grim when it comes to dictators "annexing" other countries and the world stage floundering around and "condemming" the action. Hitler didn't stop with Austria, Putin didn't stop with Crimea, and there doesn't seem to be any solution that doesn't involve boots on the ground. We're either going to stand by and let Russia do what it pleases, or we're going to go to war. Those are the choices.
I'm in school holding back tears. Puting deserves to suffer through far worse than what he is doing to Ukraine. Prayers, prayers, and more prayers to Ukraine. I am honestly shaking and hope that the people who posted these stay safe.
Stay safe. You will be able to make it. God will always be with. I'm praying for you and all those who are suffering due to this war rn. Putin deserves to rot in hell.

I'm sure the brave western leaders will write really powerful letters to Putin...

Load More Replies...This should speak for itself, but really, leave Russian youtubers/instagrammers etc alone! The amount of political (and judging and blaming) comments I've seen on social media in 2 hours time is absurd. They have better things to do than reading your blame comment, or your "helpful" advise about how they need to tell people about Putin. Not to mention the ridiculous demand for them to make statements, share opinions and make youtube/tiktok videos. What the actual f**k! They are innocent people/teens/families trying to share their daily life with us. Their country is literally at war and they have no guarantee of having a meal, a roof over their head or clean clothes next week. These are not the people responsible for this war. Bombs are going off, people are dying. Wrong crowd, very inappropriate and again, just leave them the F*** alone!
I had to do a one-pager in AP Human Geography today and I had to read an article about this and summarize what the article said. It was so horrifying to read what was going on. I can't get over how horrible Putin is. I really hope the conflict ends quick because I don't want to live through a World War III too. I just wanna have a chance to grow old and have kids and live, but if the US gets involved who knows what'll happen here. I'm terrified and really really sad knowing that do many people are getting hurt and sad that because of this there's a chance I may never even get to live life. And so many people in Ukraine never will either. There are children and teenagers and young men and women who have their whole lives ahead of them all over the world that could lose their lives just because of one s**t bag of a man. I'm honestly crying writing this and cried through the list. I can't get over how horrible humans are. I'm have never been this scared, not even through the pandemic. But now, I just don't know what'll happen and I can barely handle it. I fully support Ukraine in this as well as a lot of the Russians since they truly don't want this either. 🇺🇦
I'm just a 13 yo and I don't want to live through a WWIII either. I hope all of this ends real quick.

And war is also something only humans can invent. All the living beings, including the adults, the kids and the animals there don't deserve any of this. Hopefully they find a way out.
Load More Replies...I'm both sad and worried by this outlook. The last time the world kept quiet while a powerful nation annexed its neighbors repeatedly, lead to a chain of events that ended with a lot of lives lost. I really hope this can be resolved amicably.
Maliciously bombing a sovereign country of peaceful citizens minding their own business while the entire world stand back and does nothing cannot and will not be "resolved amicably". I fully support Ukraine using their strongest forces to fight for their country that nobody should feel entitled to just come in and steal.

I wish as soon as any Russian military enter into the Ukraine, they throw down their weapons snd surrender!!NO ONE. Wants this war except Putin!! Do not die for this evil man!

I can’t have Russia cause world war 3 !!
Im going to say it once and one time only. He needs to be taken out and now. Modern day Hitler. You hear me Biden? Don't allow this to happen. I understand we have our own issues in America. But we helped take Hitler out we can help Ukraine. Putin won't stop there. You know this.
Not just in America, Every country has had their issues. Amongst themselves of course and also with others, but let's be honest, it's 2022, we all have more information now, we know better. We should not let a bully pick on anyone. I read that US and NATO aren't doing anything, just because Putin made a few "funny" remarks about everyone regretting it if they did. They (Russia) can't even hold the Ukranian border, they don't have the military force for it. So what, we're going to let everyone pillage and plunder now for a mere threat of using nukes? He might use them, I'm not underestimating his insanity, don't get me wrong. But we can't bloody well keep on living governed by fools who never learned how to share, can we? Standing by doing nothing while watching a bully tormenting his target is just as bad as being the bully

This is so frustrating, Im here in the US, a freshman in high school sitting here waiting for my history class to begin, meanwhile on the other side of the world history is being made and people are dying and I likely will not suffer from this at all and there's nothing I can do to help. For all of the Ukrainians and Russian civilians I hope you make it out safely.
It's so heartbreaking on how much people have to suffer... may all of this end very quick and may there be peace... if there is any Ukrainian reading this, don't worry... we are on your side, and may all of this dread get finished as quick as possible. Along with this covid problems, this just makes it even more sad... I wish you better days in the future, you guys don't deserve this!
Had goosebumps throughout this whole post. This is such an awful thing that is happening. We are all praying for Ukraine 🇺🇦
I have been distraught ever since I learned the invasion had started. Too many wars in my lifetime...and for what? Murder-lust, greed, control? To hell with these heartless so-called leaders who think nothing of using and killing our children to boost their egos. These are evil leaders. I wish they'd just fight or have duels with each other and leave the rest of us out of it.
could someone keep me posted on whats happening? im in school so i have no access to any live newsfeed but i really want to know whats happening
As a mere American citizen, I cannot do anything except pray for Ukraine. I beg of everyone to get down on bended knees and pray to your God, whoever it may be and beg for peace in the Ukraine. This is not a situation for jokes or memes. This is the lives of millions being threatened and bombed due to the greed and power trjp of one man. We need to put our differences aside in terms of race, class, political agenda, etc and help and support the Ukrainians in any way possible. I am on bended knees now. Pray without ceasing! May peace be restored in the Ukraine! May Putin burn in Hell!
I live in Poland, I'm scared but I know it is nothing in comparison with the fear of Ukrainians. I'm so sorry that fore now I can offer you my best wishes, donations and Facebook posts. Today after work I will look for places that need volunteers in organising help. I do not want my country to go to war, but but I will not let my government and the EU, NATO just stands still, and talk. Ukrainian freedom and safety is my freedom and safety.
Last night I had a nightmare based on what people posted here. That where I lived was being attacked. I could feel it all. I came so close to death. I could not think of how my younger sister was doing. And I was not even with my mom. I was so grateful to my mom for calling me up for the first time in a long time. I knew it was all a dream throughout but just could not wake up nor could I give up and die cuz OT was all too scary.
That must have been one hell of a nightmare. Sorry you had such a scare. We (civilians not living anywhere near Ukraine or Russia) can't do much for the people involved, but what we can do is be grateful for what we have and tell our dearest people that we love them. My mom passed away 3 years ago. She always took in everyone and anyone who had to do without a mother. If you would do me a favor, please give your mom an extra hug from me. Or if you can't because you are too far away, send her a postcard (yes one of those old fashioned paper things with a stamp) and maybe take your sister out to get icecream. Or send her a postcard too. Not many people send cards anymore, but it's so nice to get a card in the mail. I hope your dreams are peaceful tonight

This entire post is unbelievable and terrifying to read. There's a disconnect happening in my brain because I've always associated bombings and war with the 1900s, not anything that could happen now. But clearly it can. Seeing people post ON THE INTERNET about current events that seem like problems of the past is awful.
Bulgaria is with Ukraine. At least that part of it that has just some brain. I hope this ends as soon as possible though it is very possible the mad psycho won't stop with Ukraine. He seems like he lost it and it won't surprise anyone if he tries to make SSSR again. No Russian should feel guilty. We all know all this is because of one narcissist who can't take the fact that his end is coming.
It's been more than 3000 years since civilizations started forming and se still have wars. This is also one of the most useless wars I've ever heard of. Praying for Ukraine
I can't even describe the outrage I'm feeling. My family came from Ukraine. My family tree dates back 300 years in Kiev before my great-grandfather & his family (including my paternal grandfather) came to the U.S. I stand with my heritage. I stand with Ukraine.
I may not live anywhere near Ukraine, but I find this absolutely horrifying. I still can't believe there are wars in this day and age.
I feel really guilty for not being able to help. Especially when I see posts that have words like please or thus is my last post and all. Prayers!
I know. Me too. Were it not for my family and job, I would be very tempted to go, but even just to say that sounds so weak and pathetic.

Feel free to pray for Ukraine and pray for peace if it makes you feel better, but after that we should actually DO something about it, and do more than just talk on social media. Let's make a deal: let's contact all our representatives and tell them to do something, and do something more than just wring hands and say how wrong it is. The time for talking is over. The time for negotiation is over. The time for threats is over. Bombs are falling and people are dying in Ukraine. It isn't time for action. We're past that. We're late and need to hurry. Contact your representatives ASAP and tell them our countries need to come immediately.
Wow...very scary just reading these posts. I can't imagine but these posts are the closest I've ever been to war! Frightening...very sad...

The two governments caused this scene together, with the help of many other countries. I would say the Ukrainian people are naive if they think that the other European countries would really help them. They would speak strong, condemn, and go back home to open a champagne to celebrate. The world has never been in a ‘should be’ status, and it never will. Still, I am really, really disappointed that my government didn’t even condemn. Wish there will be minimum casualties, civilians and military alike.
Hey, don't worry. Biden has a plan. He is going to speak harshly to Putin. I have been assured by all Democrats that they all have a plan. Let's go Brandon. In the meantime, my heart breaks for those who are going to be forced to submit to the horrors of a Russian invasion, occupation and all. If I could I would do something. This is an event that will define the future of freedom. The Ukrainians will fight for their freedom. I wish we would join them. Expect Taiwan to be next and then South Korea.

Stay safe

Prayers!
