There's a subreddit called r/techsupportgore, and its name perfectly describes its content: people who fix computers upload photos of the nightmarish scenarios they find themselves in. From melted extension cords to server rooms that look like a jungle, some of these hardware disasters are so bad, you can't help but feel for the folks who have to fix them. So continue scrolling, check out the pics, and don't be surprised if you cringe to the brink of passing out after only a few of them.

Awwwwww what a cute "fuzzy brown image"!

One of the moderators of the subreddit, Coffeechipmunk, said the most popular posts there are those that depict situations just moments away from exploding. "[It's] very dangerous, but very cool looking. They probably get so big because people post the pics and you think, 'Wow, that's just a bomb at that point,'" they told Bored Panda.

The subreddit was created on the 29th of February, 2012, and since then it has grown into a 427K member-strong community. They aren't interested in trivial things like cracked screens or anything -- just the filthiest, nastiest gore there is. And it doesn't seem that it's drying out, too. Just think of all the people who acquire a new gadget or an appliance and are so eager to use it, they skip the operation manual (myself included).

I had a co-worker who went on a profanity laced fit one day because he couldn't get the paper drawer to close in the copier. The dumbass was trying to put 8.5" x 14" paper in a 8.5" x 11" slot. How he could not see the paper was too big to fit in the drawer is beyond me because it was visibly sticking out of the drawer.

"A lot of the content on the subreddit does rather well, except for people coming for actual tech support, they get redirected to the right subreddit. For actual tech support gore, though, it seems like broken screens and slightly messy wires are the current posts that don't hit too hard," Coffeechipmunk explained.

They think the reason why r/techsupportgore got so popular is quite a simple one: "Honestly... it's very fun," Coffeechipmunk said. "In a time where most of the internet can be incredibly serious and most times saddening or angering, r/techsupportgore is fun because you go on it and you can laugh (and/or cringe) at the crazy posts. Where else can you see a post like, "Wow, these cables really are messy" to, "A lizard fried my motherboard" back to back? I love our growing community. They're a bunch of people that just enjoy tech and to some extent, the worst of it."

I had a very similar one like this. Something to note is that personal heaters and fans were prohibited so as to not affect the air conditioning. We were rolling out new PCs to Call Centre staff, each one costing $2,800. I had installed five and was doing the sixth when I could smell burning. One of the staff had turned on a heater at full power facing the PC and it had literally melted the fascia, destroying also the CD/DVD unit, and the motherboard and CPU were damaged. It was a complete write-off. Brand new, it had been in use for less than twenty minutes before being destroyed.

If you are, however, afraid that you're gonna end up on this subreddit, there are things you can do to prevent it. There's plenty of information on the internet that you can utilize to become more tech savvy. There are forums, websites, and YouTube channels dedicated to specific fields where you can find comprehensive information on how to reset your iPhone and how to fix a malfunctioning laptop. Heck, if you're feeling really adventurous, you can even learn how to code.

Because they’re too lazy to re-route the cables correctly and want a “quick fix”... which makes things HELL in the long term. This is why we can’t have nice things.

This picture is just prior to flipping them. It's difficult to attach speakers on top of a pole using a ladder. Instead, attach the stands to the base as in the picture, and then rotate them up into the air.

Sounds legit if you don't know how difficult they are to rotate. I've set up hundreds of speakers in my life and I would never do it like that. It's much, much easier lifting them up on the stands the right way round. No need for a ladder.

You know what? This is not a user problem. This is the computer industry’s fault. Computers without removable & cleanable air filters are the absolute norm. It makes them entirely unsuited for their intended function. Every computer should have its thermal-management airflow designed with FILTRATION, and those filters should be made to be removed and cleaned easily. This is NOT a user problem. This is a FAILURE of the industry to build its own products appropriately.

A good way to erase a disk (floppy or drive) is to use a magnet. They've attached the system restore floppy to a surface using a magnet, which will do exactly what the note says not to do.

These packagings are annoying, but you shouldn't cut anything if you can't see what's inside. Just calm down and find a corner or a side. It's a mouse, not a defibrillator. Nobody will die if you take 5 minutes to think what you are doing.

It's an 'end user' problem, too, because this packaging is to 'stop' theives from removing the item from the packaging and basically evading all the anti-theft stuff in the packaging. I put 'stop' in the quotes because thieves know well enough that a carton cutter or other sharp knife down the inside-corner of the outer edge (where the package is sealed) is a pretty easy way of removing it...

My one friend did this to one of my old Tripp Lite Isobars. I kindly explained to her that a heater should never be plugged into anything other than a wall outlet. I think she offered to replace it, but I told her not to worry, since I had cost her a fair amount of money during our previous relationship. She’s not dumb. She just didn’t know about electricity and heat. That’s why we have to put warnings on things like this.

Had a cable technician leave the connection box on the back of our apartment unit open and it filled with water, which then corroded all of the connectors. We found this after we'd had 2 different techs come by and not find any issues. We'd been practically without internet due to this issue, they refunded 1 month after we showed them the pictures.

I use to work for the local school district. Custodian not IT. The superintendent who still has his job, is always pushing save money. The saved money goes to the football program, I live in Texas. Well IT said we need a back-up server. Cost$1000, no way to much money. It crashed, cost to try and recover what was stored on it, all students grades, from 1st to 12 grade. $10,000, plus replacing that server and buying a back-up. People don't think.

I see at least 4 RAID arrays that will likely never boot up correctly again... assuming they're low end ones, that's what, US$3500 each, plus around US$200-$250 per drive laying on the floor assuming they're WD Blacks?? (they really should be Reds which would only be about $150 per drive, but you can clearly see the labels)

In my first job we were moving offices. My manager propped a server against a desk leg whilst he moved something. I warned him it was unstable but he told me to mind my own business. A few minutes later there was the inevitable crash. The computer had all the personnel data for their most prestigious client. When we took the hard disk out, it rattled. We rang the disc manufacturer to see if any of the platters could be salvaged. "Hello," we said. "we have this disk from a computer that fell over -" "just reboot and it will be fine," they interrupted. We tried explaining several times more but they thought 'falling over' just meant a software fault. We gave up. "Look the whole PC tipped over - Listen!" we said, shaking the disk at the mouthpiece. (It was F^&*ked)

...Because certain people in our country think education is the enemy of their churches and special interests. They sabotage education intentionally. They’re anti-intellectual. Sabotage education and you sabotage the society’s ability to even think. Critical thinking skills are the enemy of certain political movements, so they sabotage any chance of people being taught to think critically.

Toxic masculinity, which only gives men 1 "acceptable" emotion: anger. Instead of feeling sad, disappointed, etc., the cover emotion of anger is encouraged, while actually dealing with the root emotion is ignored.

Some people, including ignorant adults, think that when they wreck something they've been given to use, someone else ought to pay to fix/replace it. No respect for others' property or for something that has been given to them without having to work for it.

This happened to me too. I plugged it in (bit surprised, that it was on the first attempt, not third), waited a moment fo it to load. Got confused a bit (another flash drive died on me week before, so I just thought that this one is done too), I reached to remov the drive and for some reason I felt like I'm bit too far on left side. I looked and yes, there it was, plugged in Ethrenet, doing nothing. I felt stupid but hey, they are next to each other, the port is just the right size, I was hasty and didn't check. And the port was not damage, so nothing but two minutes of confusion and few seconds of embaresment... I had worse bus rides...

The magnatron tube in the microwave is interfering with WiFi signal. WiFi also operates on the same frequency as a microwave, 2.4 GHz.

It's an additional handle to pull the door closed. Indeed you are likely to catch your hand, but you're supposed to pull it closed (and then remove your hand) with that handle. Also allows you to climb into the transit van, if they're higher up off the ground than a normal van.

That is a Ford Transit 12 or 15 passenger/cargo van. I have the same vehicle and did the exact same thing. Why on earth there is a pocket in the door like that, I do not know. I put my phone in it so I wouldn't drop it while climbing into the van, which is pretty high up. I then went to close the door and heard the crunch. Expensive mistake.

    Ivana Junas

5 years ago (edited) Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Our school computers had limited space per profile but never cleared the temp folder. One poor girl had nothing at all saved in her user area and couldn't log in because of some programs the school used that were badly programmed, the temp folder was never dumped on log out or shut down, and it only recorded the temp file size through her user area. She had to manually delete the files in the folder before they could give her a new profile, each item was one item in a folder, folders couldn't be deleted if there was a file in it, they could only be deleted one at a time, and there were thousands gathered from every user profile on the network (so over 800 different users). Took hours, poor kid. This was 1996 btw.
