Have you ever noticed how things look bellow water surface? Weird and distorted? It’s due to the refraction of light. I live by the beautiful lake Ohrid and this effect was always interesting to me. It inspired me to make a beautiful lamp about it.

I used a dried gourd from Mali (Africa) for the head and a black walnut for the neck and the base.

I make delicately carved light sculptures out of dried African gourds. Every piece is unique. It takes from 1000 to 2000 hours to finish one piece.

This is beautiful! I live in Africa and have often seen carved “calabash” as we call it here, but this is absolutely exquisite.

Nice. It definitely takes a lot of patience to do that! I have a friend who is a luthier who has that same sort of absorption in his work. Hours spent with little noticeable progress - I admire your work.
