I Hand Carved Two Wooden Toy Boxes For Twins Designed Based On Their Favorite Toys
I had a client ask for two custom toy boxes for twins, designed based on their favorite toys.
I started this project in March 2018 and, while working between other projects, finished it in September 2018. To save myself some time, I had the boxes made at a local cabinet shop. It’s all carved by hand from oak using a variety of chisels, then I added color using Tung Oil tinted with oil paints.
Here’re some photos and a couple of videos which show the progress and final result of my carving.

I started with two sketches based on twins’ favorite toys
The first step in the process was to take the design, print it out to scale and transfer it to the wood. Here I am redrawing the design with tracing paper under the big sheet
Then, the designs were transferred on the wood
A small selection of the tools I used on for this project
And the carving had begun!
Here is the finished carved panel of “Josie the Giraffe”
The final, completed “Josie” toy box, which is 41″ x 19″ x 26″

Completed front panel of “Leo the Lion”

And the cheerful twins can finally enjoy their unique toy boxes

oh, never got photos of the backs... good thing to point out! Thanks
Load More Replies...Wow, those are really amazing! Thanks for showing us the process, what lucky kids.
I have a feeling these two will be SPOILED! ;) LOL
Load More Replies...That's gorgeous -- your carving is beautiful, and the colors are even more gorgeous! And seeing in your bio that you're now living in a former school building, it sounds like you have room for not just yourself, but a whole artist colony to work under one roof. I'd love to get some of your carving myself -- maybe not a toy box, but a storage chest. Are you anywhere on the internet so people can order from you if they want to order some of your work?
Thanks for asking- www.CindyChinn.com... I work in several mediums. Metal Art and Carved Pencils are what I am best known for though. You can easily find more of my work by googling images Cindy Chinn... and I post regularly on my Facebook account, https://www.facebook.com/cindychinn
