Turns Out, There’s A “You Had To Be There” Trend On Twitter And Here Are 75 Of The Best Tweets About It
Nostalgia is a powerful and, quite frankly, fun thing. Many of us likely have a favorite TV show we watched the first thing in the morning while preparing for school, the same one that influenced our personalities. Or perhaps you can recall the lighter things, the ones that make you laugh and grant some respite from the hectic pace of the world. And then there are the light mistakes, like the popular candy that left a sour taste in your mouth. Basically, nostalgia comes in many forms, we each have fond memories related to childhood (or not-so-distant youth!), and from time to time, it's nice to recall the carefree days of our lives.

I used to make these at summer camp while gossiping with the older girls and counselorsurs
Twitter users jumped right on the ongoing trend of "You had to be there", posting pictures that encapsulate certain times in their lives. Some of the posts can involve things from a few years ago, while others go back decades—and each of them is accompanied by the feeling of nostalgia that's attached to the pictures.
What are the bad memories? Clip, save, and help the school to get a new chute or set of swings.

My grandma still has a ziplock bag full of box tops that I was supposed to give to my teacher in SECOND GRADE?!! WHY ARE THEY STILL THERE? One of the unsolvable mysteries of the world
I had all of these. Once, for the tickets, I got all of them taken away, and then had three more taken away. It was a bad day.
I miss them! They were the only good thing about my primary school, but my crappy highschool doesn’t do them.

I live in the UK and recognised some of these! The one in the left corner is something to do with a book fair (I think), the top right corner are coloured cards, they get switched around depending on your behaviour. I have no clue what the top left is but the bottom right is ‘bunk-bed maths’ as we called it.

At the end of the day in kindergarten (approx age 5) the card on your name indicated your behavior throughout the day. Green meant you were good, yellow meant so-so, and red meant bad

Ah yes, the good old colored cards. Things were simpler in elementary
My first-grade teacher HATED me. For some reason, I'll never know why. Anyway, in class, we did have that thing shown in the second picture, with all the green, yellow, and red cards. she ALWAYS found reasons to make me switch my cards to red. A year passed and she either quit or got fired. Who knows?
Ah, the pain qwq I remeber 2nd grade me getting so upset when I had to mave my card to yellow.
Is it some kind of millenial joke that I am too young to understand?
Plenty of people are jumping in on this trend, from regular folk to official and certified accounts, each post presenting a blast from the past that was somehow special for them, be it TV series that aired a decade ago or a newer movie that's only a few years old. Time is a flexible thing, and the trend reflects different periods that people grew up in.
And there's an unspoken rule to these posts—you shouldn't add a description to the pictures. Basically, if you know, you know. If you don't, don't worry about it. The variety of the posts—containing old movies, physical items, or discontinued media—apply to people of different ages. So, there's a bit of everything for everyone.
Man, this reminds me of my first car (an Acclaim). Like driving a pillow with better safety ratings.
Is... is this what the Millenials looked like to Gen X when we hit adulthood and got all cringey??
Yes, but don't worry. The same thing will happen to them when they hit adulthood.

Many of these could still be around, they were not bad things and we have little or no improvement on them. I am British and recognise most of them.
I didn't see any CHowder or Pet Shop references D: allow me to show you some pictures: yes-fam-60...f4d9a2.jpg
I was not there. I was born in 2000. I am too young to be a millenial, but I am too old for gen z... I am like a ghost, stuck between two worlds but belonging to neither.
If you were born between 1997 and 2015 you're gen Z.
