Sexist Man Says Only “Men Of The West” Can Create Such Amazing Sculpture, Gets Response He Doesn’t Expect

Sipping wine and wearing a beret isn’t enough if you want to become an art critic. In order to write about sculpture, for example, you must learn everything there is to know about the craft: its history, significance, trends, key figures, sculptural techniques, etc. Or you can at least Google the artist when you’re discussing their work on the internet because you might make a complete fool out of yourself. Like this guy did.

When Ivan Throne shared a picture of what he believes to be art, he added his own opinion about it. A quite strong opinion. But if you want your ballsy claims to stand a chance against the internet, you need to back them up with concrete facts. Scroll down to check out why everyone needs to double-check everything they post!

This sculpture is creating a lot of buzz online

Although their party quickly ended when someone pointed out its actual origins

The artist behind this sculpture is Luo Li Rong

She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Beijing, and even did a few sculptures for the 2008 Olympics!

Other people also felt the need to share their opinions about the story

Wild guess - It is years since i worked with clay - and techniques have moved on - She used the correct fabric for the job. Then filled it up with slip clay - runny but thick fluid - to saturate the cloth. Then spot baked in. This is an extrapolation from what I was taught *many* years ago. Lots of technique and knowledge to get this right so it doesn't crack. ..... so major respect how ever it was done.

For some reason, oriental artists almost always produce their subjects as Western. Why is this? This woman lives in Brussels, but certainly not all Asian artists. :O

Oriental artists do primarily produce work featuring subjects from their own race/country/heritage. But it's the ones that depict western subjects that tend to get the attention of the western audience, therefore they get shared by that audience, and so people in the west only see those and assume it's all the artist ever create. Nobody's fault really, we gravitate towards things that are similar to us.

Thse kind of painting are not rare, put sculpture and be real human inside she has only put thin layer of clay to it. It is called sculpture because there is scull inside :) Marbel sculptures are not so suspicious and demand more skills.

It's not art in the sense it doesn't reveal a secret or show us to ourselves or give us a different point of view. It is more like commercial fantasy art. As such it is imbued with many cultural cliches of what the perception of beauty in a woman is and that includes a sexualised view of woman. Personally I think it is a bit tacky. Very well executed but uninspiring.

My thought was before I ever read any comments:"Pretty but kinda kitschy". However, it's a display of excellent craftsmanship. If I had to judge by five-star categories, it'd be 5 for anatomy, 5 for (the illusion of) textures, 5 for dynamic posing, 5 for painting, and 3 for vision.

And yet, who is this sculptor imitating? Its style is not Chinese in origin, but clearly a combination of Greek elegance plus a touch of Rodin -- the same Western genius vilified by politically correct, self-loathing whites who have bought into Hollywood's multi-culti, anti-European bigotry.

The point of the article is not completely about what style it is, it is more about the gender of he sculptor and the assumptions the commenter made. Also, as much as it is attractive to assume that the "Hollywood" culture hates Western Civilization culture, that is only the worst representative of the more culturally accepting groups. We just want to bring in the wonders of the other cultures of the world, only the worst of us vilify Euro-American culture. I understand your POV, but maybe take a closer look next time you comment.
