This Doctor Shut Down Ann Coulter So Hard, Someone Needs To Call An Ambulance

As the USA experienced the 307th mass shooting in 311 days on November 7th, 2018, in Thousand Oaks the gun control law debate returned to the headlines. This time, the National Rifle Association (NRA) played a major role in them, too. And it has a lot to do with a tweet the organization released just hours before the tragedy in California.

“Someone should tell self-important anti-gun doctors to stay in their lane,” the NRA wrote. “Half of the articles in Annals of Internal Medicine are pushing for gun control. Most upsetting, however, the medical community seems to have consulted NO ONE but themselves.”

Immediately, outraged doctors from all over the country began responding, and some of them even included chilling real stories from their emergency rooms.
Dr Morris was one of the many health professionals who used Twitter to hit back at the NRA, joining others under the hashtag #ThisIsOurLane. “People need to see the reality of what we deal with. Too often, we get stuck on the same old philosophical arguments about gun violence,” Dr Morris told the BBC. He was deliberately vague about the details surrounding the photo he tweeted “because it is representative of countless times that this has happened to every other person who works in trauma and me.”

“We are anti-violence. Violence is the real problem; guns are simply a vector. What we hope for is the opportunity to study the problem and apply sound scientific methodology to making things better.”

Eventually, Ann Coulter tried to back up the NRA but people think her attempt fell on its face. Scroll down to check out a summary of this heated Twitter debate on gun licensing and laws and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Americans are fearful of their countrymen, of immigrants, of children, of churchgoers, of music lovers, of Jews, of witches, and ogres and they need automatic weapons to make sure they can kill as many as possible in the shortest amount of time. The NRA, bless them, makes sure of this by funneling Russian funds to our elected officials. It's a unique American sickness.

There's a famous Russian saying "stray bullets don't care who they hit". People are so fragile as they are, why making it worse by having freely accessible firearms around?

This discussion will still be going on in 25 years. Gunlovers won't have anything to do with gun control and they are supported by the NRA that has bought a lot of politicians. No matter how many mass shootings there will be, the 2nd amandment is more important to them than all the lives that are destroyed. With the Trumpanzee as president it's safe to say that there will be no changes for the next couple of years.

And that's why they will eventually lose big. They refuse to be a part of the solution so the solution will happen without them and they won't like it at all. They could have worked with the rest of us to find a solution we could all live with but they refuse to give an inch and want the laws we currently have struck down. At some point the tide will turn and they will be washed away. And they have no one to blame but themselves (although like all "personal responsibility" right wingers they'll blame everyone else).

It's very sad when pro-gun people dismiss all the mass shootings and any gun control because of their unreasonable need to protect the US from a hypothetical invasion. People -CHILDREN- are being murdered here en masse and all they care about is having a personal arsenal. If they have acquired their guns legally, then no one is going to take their guns because they did it legally. If they think their guns are going to get taken away because of stricter gun control laws, then they must know something is wrong with themselves that they would not get through any stricter regulations.

Exactly. They say they need their guns to prevent a fascist take-over the USA. Weird because for eight solid years of the Obama Presidency they kept telling us that Obama was a fascist dictator. Yet they never took up arms to stop him. I suspect there are two reasons for that; 1) they're cowards at heart and know they could never go up against the USA. 2) They know they're full of s**t and that Obama was nowhere close to being a dictator.

Gun nuts keep telling us how "responsible" they are. They act like every gun in the hands of a criminal just materialized out of thin air. What they never acknowledge is that EVERY gun that was lawfully manufactured in the first place was always in the hands of "responsible, law abiding" citizens until somehow it got into the hands of a criminal. So somehow these people who keep telling us how super-responsible they are lost control of their guns. They either didn't secure them well enough to prevent them from being stolen or they gave or sold them to a criminal. I understand that some places don't require a person to do a background check on someone before selling them a gun but the law is irrelevant. If you don't know for certain that a person is legally allowed to own a gun then the most irresponsible thing you can do is sell that person a gun regardless of the law. If it weren't for gun nuts, criminals wouldn't have guns in the first place. That's who they get them from.

Ann Coulter and NRA telling doctors to stay in their lane on the gun control debate. Really the NRA is not an expert on anything, its just an organization that made up of ammosexuals and recliner Rambo's trying to protect the gun rights of white angry men. Ann coulter (Transgender Skeletor, no offense to transgeder people.) is just a self aggrandizing, right-wing talking head with opinions so vile and hateful that it would make the KKK blush. I dont see the fun or point of killing wild animals for sport - or as a "hobby". Unless it is to eat, legitimately control numbers, or for specific animals posing a risk to humans or livestock - or to humanely kill an injured or sick one. I can't think of another good reasons these days. It is the "hey - we got guns lets go find something to shoot"

The biggest problem here isn't weapons, it's the American lifestyle and culture. It glorifies violence in music, film, everyday life. The countries in Europe and beyond without gun "control" as it were still have less gun violence because they don't propagate a culture based on glorifying violence. That's not to say that limiting gun use won't work either. In comparable countries that do, while there are attacks using knives and so on, the devastation and loss of life is measured as less significant because the attacker/s could not just pull out a semi and fire at random.

As a security guard, I'm more afraid of a screwdriver than a knife or gun. Like knives, screw drivers don't need ammo, make very little noise when used as a weapon, and are very tough to break. they never jam and even a total moron can figure out where the pointy end goes, and rather easy to conceal until it's too late. Unlike knives, they're not typically considered a weapon, so most people are like 'oh. he's going to fix something.' (well, yeah, the lock that's not opening, too.) The problem with most gun control bills right now is that they won't actually do anything to limit guns getting into the hands of criminals or people who mean to do harm. I carry for work, sometimes. (site dependent). with my relatively modest training, I can swap a mag out in half a second. So lets go to revolvers only, you say? yeah. moon clips. Oh, so lets go to single shot-only weapons. yeah... you should've seen my grampa with his .38 special service pistol... (fresco lines cop... the stories he told..)

Put simply... I don't get it America. Constitutional rights blah, blah, blah?? Maybe the constitution needs an amendment of another kind. Guns = murder. I'm English. I can own a gun, should I wish. I can participate in hunting and using gun ranges if I wanted to. But somehow we've achieved that without having daily incidents of mass murder. Doesn't feel like rocket science. And if people can't listen to these doctors or the families of patients, it'll never, EVER get better. Where exactly do your priorities lie?? With preservation of human life or violent materialism?

Coulter's logic never seems anything more than some pizzazzed-up unending circular logic that she presumes to be witty; yet it's nothing more than the usual ouroboros. the damage done is precisely the domain of those whose lives are spent dedicated to fight to save lives affected by such gun trauma. all life intersects & so do all lanes!

So Anne Coulter was "put in her place" by a doctor's response that reduced the entire discussion to ad hominem attacks. I'm not saying that the NRA's or AC's comments were backed up with stats, but it wasn't ad hominem, which takes any discussion to the bottom of any barrel. But by all means, let's all cheer for those who can't back up their opinions with mature thoughts about the issue and have to start calling others insulting names.

Okay. Think of this. The criminals have a lot of guns, and can get them easily on the black market. So law-abiding citizens agree to a gun ban and hand in all their guns. They will then be easy prey for the criminals, because the criminals will not give up that advantage. Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, and one other city have the harshest gun control laws in the country, making it almost impossible to own a gun there. The gangs have guns, though, and they don't care who they kill. The police don't do anything because gangmembers are now made into victims in the news media. California has the strictest gun control laws of any state, so a lot of the shootings happen there, though Florida is catching up fast, and Florida is a purple state. The common theme among all these places that have lots of shootings is a strong presence of gun control, which tends to make me think it doesn't work. Also, London has passed NYC for homocides in a year. So shut your yaps, Brits.

I'd like to address Mindy Keys since she was downvoted to hell so they remove the ability to reply. Mindy, I'm also a woman living alone in a big city and I completely, wholeheartedly, sincerely understand why you keep a gun. I'm not pro-gun or pro-violence but the reality is that in this world the situation we're in makes us vulnerable to being attacked. The very thought of having your personal space invaded and intruded upon, the place you go to relax and cook and rest, is a sickening thought. Women NEED something to protect themselves. We simply can't ignore the reality of that. There are countless women attacked/raped/murdered every week simply for existing, whether shes in her home or walking in the street (and yes, sometimes by other women). The problem is that if everyone were to have the same access to a weapon like that, it would make attackers all the more powerful. There's no real solution to this other than to perhaps shift the obsession with glorifying violence.

Amendment 2: The right to bare arms shall not be infringed. Whether I want it for hunting, skeet, or self defense. If you become an expert on guns because you remove bullets, then I am an expert on self defense for having been in a threatening situation. I don't care if youre a doctor or a burger flipper, you're "logic" makes no sense. I believe in classes to learn how to use your weapon properly, and to learn the laws. Thats the end of it. Making guns illegal or less accessible will take them out of the hands of law abiding citizens. Cocaine is illegal, but its still here. Meth is illegal, but its still here. Murder is illegal, but it still happens. Drinking under the age of 21 is illegal, but it still happens. Being drunk and driving is illegal, but it still happens. The vast majority of shootings are done by means of illegally obtained guns. I don't care what you pull of out someones a*s, you are not an expert.

Once again you fail to grasp the concept that we have a culture and people problem, guns are only the tool of choice. Fortunately I have survived for quite a few decades. When I was in high school guns were present in the back windows of pickup trucks and we even had gun safety classes at school and in boy scouts in junior high. Nobody was shot or killed in our schools. What has changed in the last 30, 40 or 50 years to bring about the bloodbath we have today? Its really rather simple to see if one opens their eyes, our society does not value life as we once did. People are being desensitized to the violence that is now present in many aspects of our lives. Human life is devalued in violent video games, television shows and movies. Life is devalued in the pornography that is ever present on the internet. With the millions of lives lost through abortion and the availability of physician assisted suicides the value of human life is abandoned. You reap what you sow.

No one wants dead kids. But, how do you limit 'rights' ? Once we start with one, will others follow ? It is catastrophic, senseless, heartbreaking, and soul-crushing to hear about the damage gun violence does, one can only try to imagine what doctors go through...I could never tell a parent that their child is dead...just couldn't do it. But...again...how do we fix it ? Every 'right' is inviolate. How many criminals have gone free on technicalities, only to commit another crime (including murder?). Yet we don't want to repeal Amendments 4 thru 8. A solution, distasteful to be sure, but a solution nonetheless, is to arm everyone, install perimeter blockades (bullet proof glass, double entries, fingerprint encoded guns, etc). The 1800s saw everyone carrying a gun...yet the leading cause of death for males age 14-35 was falling off a horse, not being shot.

The one thing an anti gun left wing nut-job can never answer is do you think making MORE gun laws will make criminals stop breaking the law? All more gun laws do is prevent law abiding citizens from protecting themselves. That's just a fact! What we really have is soft on crime liberal judges that let these thugs back out on the street with just a slap on the wrist. We don't need less people in prison we need MORE! Get soft on crime liberals out of office!

Yeees, so now lets talk about ALL of the OTHER ways that people attempt to kill, maim and otherwise torture each other. How are we gonna stop those?? Knives? Take them away! Fire?? No fire allowed! Hands?? Off with everyones hands! Drop a big ole rock on their head?? BAN ROCKS! It is the people that are evil and ugly..not the weapons. What is so hard about this??

Rosie Hamilton

Only guns were created purely to kill. Knives are fairly useful in the kitchen, even if just chopping a carrot. Fire cooks and keeps people warm. Rocks, natural phenomenon. People keep bringing up cars yet they are rather useful for moving great distances. It isn't relevant to compare guns with anything else. People are the evil and the ugly - all the more reason not to arm them with something that can kill many people and from a distance - those factors make guns stand out.

Doctors are experts on knife wounds too, but no one wants to ban kitchen knives and all they do is make it easier to eat the food that is killing us all... After reading this, I went to my Gun Safe, opened it and asked my guns if they had shot anyone recently or were planning on shooting anyone. They didn't answer, because they are "GUNS". A person has to use a gun to shoot, a knife to stab, and a have the mind to do so. My guns are legal and registered. How many of the guns that these doctors are talking about are in the hands of a criminal illegally? I am not part of the problem.

The term for this post is "conflation." What Ann Coulter said is true. Most of the rebuttal is directed against what the NRA said. The NRA told doctors to keep out of the subject, which is bad advice because it's a topic everyone should be able to voice an opinion on. However, she's right that doctors don't have any magical expertise on gun control. Seeing one aspect of a thing isn't the soil from which expertise always grows. Sometimes it's the soil from which zealotry grows. Her critics might think that's the same thing in this case. Pause and consider the possibility it's not. This post will no doubt get down-voted to oblivious in a heartbeat. Doesn't make me wrong.

My sister works in the ER here in Cleveland and with a cousin with Denver Sheriff, I can certainly say that a VAST majority (talking 97% and higher) of gun violence is due to either gangs or drugs. If the legal gun owners in this country were the problem, you would know it for sure, but the problem is people getting their hands on guns through the black market. And you think gun restrictions will stop the black market? No, it will only make it bigger. If anyone thinks that gun laws turn criminals into saints then you are a special kind of stupid.

The problem is not guns, it is the individual who uses a gun. A gun is a tool to complete an act. We, as a society, need to place more emphasis on mental health and providing assistance to those who need it. Banning guns is not a solution.

Person2638

We should still ban guns. Those individuals, we'll never be able to catch them all. Wouldn't it be much safer if we stop the weapon instead of trying to stop EVERYONE who wants to kill someone? That way, it would be MUCH harder for them to do any harm. I admit, it won't be impossible to stop them but making sure they don't have AK-47s will definitely be a large step towards a safer future. And that's what you want, right?

A doc knows about gun shot wounds but not about what causes shootings. People need to stop acting like it's a gun problem, it's a cultural problem. People weren't running around shooting strangers in the 20's 30's 40's & 50's. Something else is causing this. Maybe less believe in God or parenting methods have changed, maybe social media, violent movies or depression or envy. I don't know what it is but I know what is not. We had a larger amount of guns per capita 80 years ago and we didn't have this problem.

Person2638

1) Only the cultures where guns are legal is this a problem, maybe you can infer something from this. 2) Yes they were shooting others. The problem was that no one cared as much as they do today, so it wasn't a big deal. 3) Have you noticed that A LOT of shooters do believe in God? 4) Violent movies and social media usually do not cause you to shoot stuff, otherwise the entire world would be in chaos. 5) People with depression and envy should get help, not guns. 6) We had a lot of racism and less women's and gay rights 80 years ago, but things need to keep changing otherwise we won't get better.

A knife not only has another useful purpose but also its range is a few meters tops (if you throw it right...which I believe is not easy). Meanwhile pressing a trigger is a task a two-year-old can do (and many have - killing their relatives because of it), you can kill dozens of people within minutes and causing harm is the only thing the guns have a purpose for. How can you seriously compare knives with guns? Makes no sense.

With preservation of human life or violent materialism?

made me ball uncontrollably. maybe more tragic to me also that it's been reduced down to social media baiting as of some sort of news bite, as though it's from Orwell's 1984.

I agree that gun violence is horrible. However, there are millions of honest decent citizens who own guns and are not mass murderers, or murderers at all. Ms. Coulter would have been wiser to point out that the carnage created by bullets was initiated by humans not the guns.

Well lets see. Knifes kill people. Vehicles kill people. Opioids kill people. Let's not forget suicide of any kind kills people. Then we have black on black homicides which is certainly way higher than anyone cares to admit. Smoking cigarettes kill people. Every single one of these deaths are a tragedy. Blood has that shock value. I am retired now but when I worked I was a nurse and police officer and have witnessed many tragedies! Iam going to keep myI'm going to keep my firearms

there are strict regulations on literally everything you mentioned except your unnecessary personal opinion of black on black homicide

It's not gun violence. It's evil people violence and they will use whatever they can get their hands on. You cannot legislate that out of existence.

Kids have been murdered at schools. People "going after rifles" is not the problem here.

So, they have to treat stab wounds, too, on a daily basis, yet no one calls for the ban on knives. Ann may not be the brightest bulb in the box but these conceited pricks that supposedly burned her are no better.
