The "what if we get invaded" thing gets me too every time! This is a country with only two neighbouring countries (terribly frightening Canada and Mexico) and a whole lot of ocean to the east and west. Calm down, 'Muricans, you're perfectly safe!

Can't you see a bunch of yahoos with shotguns, hunting rifles and Magnum .357s in their pickup trucks going up against an army of highly trained soldiers who have machine guns, bazookas, flame throwers, cannon, tanks, etc. - and likely backed up by an Air Force with advanced jet fighters?

Past the Bill of "Rights" are more amendments. How long do we have to wait to abolish them? 13th amendment did not factor in that the slaves that were freed would one day be able to vote Reinstate Slavery? Or the 15th amendment that lets blacks vote and the 19th amendment that lets women vote, they didn't factor in things like electronic voting machines Only White men can vote?

It is actually pretty hard to get a fully automatic weapon in the US, you must pay a large sum of money and fill out forms for it, plus every three months someone comes around to see if everythings ok. Fully automatics weapons are usually only permitted if the personal is a professional and has passed the checks. A small caliber bullet can kill someone just as much as a larger caliber bullet can. It really doesn't matter on the size of the bullet. If you are talking about shotguns, that spray small pellets, they are pump action, which takes much longer to fire. Most guns people have, are semi-automatics, meaning you pull the trigger once and one bullet is discharged. The whole 2nd amendment was made for muskets, i think is wrong, you can apply that ideology to the first amendment and say that television and online media aren't protected by it. Potato-potato

Yeah, it will come to that, America will be mired in socialism and they will have LONG since taken everyones guns. Then your great grandchildren will be saying it sucks how they have to hand over 80% of the money they make to the government, etc. There will be unrest, they will want to take back control of their country, but they will be unable to. It's not your business why someone who obeys the law buys ANYTHING.

As an American, I can tell you it's like living with a crazy roommate. The worst part is when you have a gun in your home, it is statistically more likely to be fired at someone in your household than an intruder. Sure, invite in a tiger to guard your home, but don't be surprised when it bites your kid.

The second amendment is to protect us FROM OUR GOVERNMENT. With only criminals and cops have access to guns, we become nothing but slaves.

A sane, intelligent American would be very welcome in most countries.
