We have all heard the various stereotypes of countries—some have some truth to them, and some are very far from the truth. The famous stereotypes at times even dictate how we view countries we have not even been to before, so it wouldn’t be safe to believe in these but sometimes we do it anyway.

Time to match various stereotypes to their countries!

"Before I came here, I thought I could only eat potatoes and sausages here." - Nein, it's bread. BREAD. You probably can have a different kind of bread every day for years here.

The one about the rain in England can only have been written by someone who has never been to Ireland.

Depends on the time of year as well.as the altitude. We're at 1300m so all of them are taken down to lower pastures/sheds round this time of year, where they spend the winter before being brought back up to the Alpine pastures in March or April.

WooHoo!. 21 of 21. I'm apparently excellent at stereotyping people. although I suppose it may have helped that they went out of their way to make some of them obvious. Also, I may have gotten lucky with Argentina, because I've got no idea who the guy is, and a lot of countries idolize their football (totally guessing that it is football, too) players.

The stereotype about French people, especially Parisians, being rude is so frustrating to me. Parisian's attitude towards tourists is basically this: Welcome to our beautiful city, we hope you enjoy your time here. Please take the time to understand our customs and rules for social behaviour. That's it. You're welcome but they expect you to learn about how to conduct yourself. Don't dress like a slob. If you walk into a small shop, greet the clerk and ask if you can look around. Learn some basic French, even if it's just the correct way to say "Do you speak English?" Learn the basics of how to interact with the locals and they'll be mostly wonderful.

I was highly pleased when I spoke to a Parisian waiter in French, and he responded in French, and the same thing happened with a metro ticket office. I also noticed that there was a busker on the metro, who was playing the harp - I presume it's legal as it wouldn't be easy to make a quick get away.

People are just people everywhere, but when it comes to tourists who've been to other places, or no other places, they can only compare Canada to what they know. People do generally think Canadians are friendly, by comparison. There are places in other parts where the people are more accommodating than Canadians. Then there are places where you can't ask for directions or say hello to someone without pissing off the locals. I've been to Manchester. I can only speak of that one area in UK when I say Winnipeg is more friendlier and safer. I've dealt with rude people in those areas. I didn't get a sense of cultural contrast until I had taste of Germany for a connection flight. Not bad people. Not unfriendly. But I, and another traveller were told to calm down when trying to locate the gate change. In Canada, we're more sympathetic and encouraging. Although, someone may still tell you to "calm down", we'll also reassure you that everything is fine.

The chocolate in Belgium is great and waffles you have to eat in a Waffle House, a Brussels waffle is delicious. Try also speculoos (biscoff cookies) from the bakery.
