Each generation has it’s own variety of bizarre toy creations. You know, the toys that you found so entertaining at the time but now looking back you think WTF? I mean whose grand idea was it to create the never-dying, obnoxious Furby? (David Hampton, Richard C. Levy and Caleb Chung, that’s who).

Well among the list of odd creations is the expandable water toy. Created using superabsorbent polymer technology, originating first in the early 1960’s, these various shapes can grow to around quadruple their original size in water. A Tumblr user came across one of these retro toys at Goodwill, but couldn’t quite figure out what the object inside was supposed to grow into. After 23 hours of observation and some comical ‘scientific’ commentary, they were met with an odd and unexpected result. Scroll down below for the whole story and the big reveal from Bored Panda!

my son got one of these, but with a penguin in it, we left it in the glass a little too long and it kept growing. Only just got it out of the glass. Then, we left it in the bathroom window while we were on holiday. It got hot. It shrank. I wish I had a funny ending to this story. Sorry.

The combination of the Mr Magoo head placed on the body of a fertility goddess is truly disturbing. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Magoo-Damona, goddess of fertility, near-sightedness and Road Hogs!

It's supposed to look like that, will shrink a little when it dries out. Got a dinosaur out of an similar egg. Looked the same when I got it out of the water. When it dried out it wasn't as bloated anymore.

I used to have these all the time as a kid. I remember they would come out looking a little weird, but this is next level weird.

I think it needs to stay in the water longer. We had some of these recently from my sons birthday presents and they needed 4 days to fully expand

I didn't know you could have a stone baby in an egg. At least this one didn't require surgery and end up in the news. Oh wait, here we are, reading about it.

I got one of these for Easter this year and it was almost as horrifying as this, except with warped, muscly Easter chic.

Wowww, people just had to made this about abortion, didn't they. Can't we just enjoy this hilarious mold of a child's toy without getting political?

No one made it about politics. you just did. They were joking about “abort” (the mission) not being an appropriate term since babies get aborted. Nothing political there

Perhaps abort was not the best word to have used there.
