of course it's another genre. I didn't say it wasn't ok for people to like them, just that I will never get it. It's a genre I think really sucks, but doesn't suck as bad as pop country. That's the worst I think. I'm more a Deftones, Korn kinda girl...and Morrissey.

I beg to differ. I don't listen to anything played on pop stations. You might have a different definition of what pop music is, but that's mine. There is music I have loved that would be considered pop by you, like Led Zeppelin and David Bowie b/c they were popular but they were NOT pop music.

great comment! and yes, they were a put together boy band! I feel like most of us didn't take them seriously. I was the right age for them; late teen years.

The Monkees were great fun. So many good songs, mostly written by great songwriters. What I said was the were a boy band-a put together by a manager who had an idea. The Beatles were not a boy band, as they grew into a band organically. I'm not sure on One Direction as I don't follow modern pop at all. I will admit I like Harry Styles-but don't know his music. I just think he's a sexy young thing. I didn't say I was better, just that I don't get the appeal as I am not attracted to it at all. Sheesh, we all have opinions, none are correct, but it's ok to state them.

I think you misunderstood my comment. I said I loved the Monkees. They had a lot of fantastic fun songs, written by some greats, like the one you mention and also Neil Diamond (Steppin' Stone was awesome) and others and some by them. They were visually fun b/c of the TV show. What I meant was I was 6 and didn't really follow much "pop" music after that. Once I got a bit older and FM radio happened in my area(1968) I no longer listened to AM radio, where pop music was played. I hate on pop music b/c I mostly just hate pop music. It's a valid opinion and I don't expect others to agree b/c mine. They have their own valid opinions. I'm an ex music journalist and huge music fan and have opinions.

Wow don't need to bash on teenage girls. Society already does that enough with how toxic and misogynist the world is. And not all are the same. All my female friends and I didn't care about that kind of stuff growing up.

yes! boy bands are attractive to young women and they are sort of "safe" men who are not very manly. not bad boys in the least. I feel like many of my generation got into the bad boys of rock and away from the sweet more wholesome sounds of pop. My friends loved the Partridge Family, while I was listening to Bowie. (not saying the partridges didn't have a few good songs-I still like "I think I Love You" but again, I was about 11 then and David Cassidy was pretty cute.)

and that's ok. It's ok to have opinions and state them. And for them to be very different than other people's. Iron Maiden was never my thing. Too screamy in an unpleasant way.
