Title here should be "How to make your essay such a tedious bore that no one can be bothered with it". I've tossed many potentially informative articles because of this counter-productive practice. Oh, er, should I add a few hundred unecessary words here to 'fill my quota'? LOL

Unless you're speaking in conditional form for situations unlikely to happen. ("If I was" vs. "If I were" -> not interchangeable, each carrying a respective meaning of their own)
