If The Government Was All-Female And Treated Men Like It Treats Women (5 Pics)

It’s no big secret that the US government, like many others in the world, is dominated by men. This means that choices are often made about women’s bodies based on biased and patriarchal thinking. What if the tables were turned?

LA-based illustrator Katie Rose has imagined this alternate universe in a series of cartoons posted on CollegeHumor. They tackle issues like body shame, reproductive health, and pharmaceutical pricing inequality, but with men at the foot-end of it all. The first frame, showing a group of elderly female politicians making rash decisions on men’s rights, is chillingly relevant to today’s political climate.

Though a cartoon alone can’t change governmental flaws, it opens the door on important discussions that can. Share this post with the men in your life who might see things more clearly from a different angle.

The birth control one bothers me most. I know so many girls who go through uncomfortable doc appts, hormonal changes, weight gain, scary side affects (like risk of stroke), basically putting their health at risk for birth control, all because the guy refuses to wear a condom because "it doesn't feel as good" yeah well, neither does 9 mos of pregnancy, or the s****y side affects of birth control!

I wanted to say this was extreme .. but the birth control is very accurate. You don't want to pay for birth control, you don't want women to have abortions, you don't want to give women (or men) reasonable family leave, and you don't people living on welfare. Come on congress!

I found these both funny and thought provoking. And there sure are some pissed off dudes in this comment section... Sure the pill and condoms aren't the same. But is has become a social norm that the girls take the pills. It's their responseability, because they are the ones who can get pregnant. As if it didn't even take two to tango.... But hey didn't they invent a male Pill? Perhaps the dudes in the comment section would have actually understood the message in the comic if the artist had used male birth control pill instead of condom. You know to really spell it out? I prefer it as it is though.

the difference between birth control pills and condoms is that one is a kind of drug that can and in most cases will give you side effects, some of which can be severe. That's why it's important that doctors are involved and that the pills aren't just given away all w***y nilly. The price thing is so true though. So unfair :/

Abortion is not birth control. Do you even remember the 1970's? Access to information, real birth control, privacy and decision making....power. ...was billed as the end all. If we had all that, abortion would not be needed because we had THE POWER to make educated, logical, smart, careful choices BEFORE HAND.

Banning masturbation would be to save sperm, but nocturnal emissions happen after so long of not masturbation. also eggs are limited, sperm not so much (from what i have heard and been told). Rally for men. if the men she knew agreed with her, then great, obviously not 100% would agree on a plan, but thats just how things go. Ejaculate into a female, umm sure? but i better not be responsible for it. otherwise, that would be the entire reason i would be getting a vasectomy. And while uncomfortable, i have seen much worse than a pair of testes being operated on, so wouldnt bother me too much. Butt crack showing, if the clothes arent fitting properly, then this should be a thing that happens for men. but thats my opinion, and also why it will probably never be enforced. as for the birth control portion, simple. DRUGS vs A BAG. if condoms had serious side effects, then yeah i would sit through a dr appointment to make sure my junk doesnt fall off. higher prices is BS no matter what

They forgot to mention how male "circumcision" would be illegal and that FGM would be legal and commonly practiced. And also how there'd be acts for the prevention of violence against men, but nothing comparable for women. And also how women would be required to register for the selective service at 18, where men would not have to. And also how men would be able to terminate a pregnancy if he didn't wish to become a father, but a woman would not only have no say in this option but also be forced to support any resulting child financially for the next 18

Honestly these just make women look stupid. If you think this is really how it is, I feel sorry for you. So many things wrong with the analogies they used for most of these. But I do agree Birth control should be easier to get. And even free. If a woman doesn't want to take it that's on her and she can also carry condoms for protection. Which she should be using anyway because of STDs. You can get condoms for FREE at any DSHS, planned parenthood, and other places. No excuse not to have it. And if he doesn't want to use it, don't have sex.

Wearing a condom, is totally different for each person. The majority of the women whom I've had a sexual-relationship with have said, condoms feel different, and it feels better without one. But I'd be supportive to any woman who chooses whether they want to use birth control or not. I'd use condoms if my partner wanted me to. Because personally, I think it's the better option for the women's health.

Don't get the first picture though. There is a pretty big difference between stating that sperms (or eggs for that matter) are human beings and that stating that a union between egg and sperm, a zygote, is a human being. The zygote has a genome that is not simply a subset of that of its father or that of its mother and if allowed to continue to develop, it will grow into a baby ready to be born. As I see it, there is no point in the development of the embryo that is equally sensible to call the beginning of a life as the fertilization. Yes, in most governments men are over represented, which sucks, but I am not certain that gender is the main determinator when it comes to ideas about when life begins.

The only ones that don't make sense are the condom-related ones. Because female condoms exist and are widely available all over the US with no prescription (like male condoms). Birth control is often used for things other than contraception; so a *close* equivalent would be erectile dysfunction medication, which is often used for things other than erectile dysfunction (like blood pressure problems), and is equally not covered by health insurance (you would have a difficult time finding a health insurance company that will cover it even partially), and can be up to $60/pill.

All I am reading is a bunch of biased drivel. Opinions, not facts. Besides, most of this feminist b******t is someone pushing their views on others. And you are worried about the Patriarchy. I'm more worried about the men AND women who don't care for our world and only care for power or money. Don't want the child you might/ might not have a choice in? Put it up for adoption. Don't wanna get pregnant? Make sure you wear protection and use male/female contraceptives. Don't wanna get raped? Take a friend should you go somewhere that makes you feel uncomfortable and carry a taser or knife. Common sense people come on.

I'm getting sick with all those feminazi man-hating nonsense. If you're stupid enough to risk your health by taking pills just to please a man, it's entirely your fault. But hey, let's blame men, because it's socially acceptable and taking responsability for our actions sucks. For the record: I was on pills for close to two years (because unlike condoms, birth control pills give you the freedom to have sex whenever and wherever you want) but stopped when my mother got diagnosed with breast cancer. My boyfriend had no voice in the matter. Duh

the female equivalent of the condom is not the pill, its the femdom available in all shops. next to condoms. the female equivalent of male masturbation is female masturbation this is not illegal. if im right, what i think youre getting at is that women cant get an abortion if they want one, well men cant force the woman to have an abortion anyway so thats daft as well. i dont get the one about the vasectomy, is it about abortions or hysterectomies?

Sarah Stevenson

In some situations and places men do force or pressurise women to get an abortion. There is still a lot of stigma attached to abortion in places where it is legal. I think what the artist is trying to convey is how it is difficult for women to get access to contraceptives and the social pressure for women to be the one responsible in the context of a sexual relationship/encounter. Men need to take responsibility for their health and there should be more contraceptive options for men. There is also a greater need for education regarding sex, sexual health and abortion. There are too many places in the world where abortions are illegal and/or carried out in ways which are dangerous. At the end of the day it is ultimately the individual women's choice whether she gets an abortion because it is her body. They should be given advice if they want it but the advisor must not influence the decision process with their personal opinion.

Comparing condoms & birth control is stupid. Obviously you don't need a prescription for condoms....it's latex that covers a d**k. Birth control changes hormones and acts on internal bodily functions...seems to me like a good thing doctors get involved. If you don't want to go on birth control...make him wear a condom. It's pretty simple

SO are u saying that men ARE ALREADY going through these???? 1) Healthcare professionals going out of their way to prevent them from getting vasectomies 2) Making men jump through hoops and circles just to get a prescription for condoms 3) Women making LAWFUL decisions for what a men does with their body

Still, abortion is not cool. Noone has the right to take another life. Also, its really not necessary, there are always other alternatives, like adoption. Some people say the adoption System is bad, but its really not that bad. And even if there are some flaws, cases, the child can still become a happy person. But there are sooooooooooooo many more good than bad cases. The child has very very very good chances to be happily adopted by loving parents. Noone needs to die :)

Putting a baby up for adoption is an enormous decision to make. You have to go through the process of pregnancy and giving birth. Giving birth has a huge psychological impact on a woman and not everybody is able to cope with that. Giving a child/baby up for adoption also has a massive psychological impact on mother, child/baby and other family members. It is an option which works for some but it is not one which works for all and women shouldn't be pressurised to feel like its the right decision. There is a lot of stigma attached to giving a child/baby up for adoption. There is not guarantee they will be adopted or fostered and grow up to be a happy individual. I think women should be given and keep the freedom to chose abortion. If people wish to keep abortion rates low then they should educate people about sex, relationships and contraceptives. There should certainly be more contraceptive options for men because men need to take more responsibility.

Hitler got elected too. Just because some Nimrod gets elected by a bunch of other Nimrods doesn't mean they are right. And just because a lot of people think a certain way doesn't make that correct, either. The issues raised by these comics are about the correct way to treat a woman. Period. It doesn't matter if there are a billion naysayers all nodding their empty little heads in agreement, right is right and wrong is wrong. Just, for a minute, try to pretend that the things listed in this post were real. And you had to undergo them. That is the intent here. Because, they are real. Just not for you. So before you dismiss this as BS, I want to remind you that real live people has to deal with this BS, in part because a large number citizens are narrow-minded twerps that can't think outside themselves and don't give enough of a c**p to do anything about it. Maybe when a group is really (the opposite of imaginarily) stepping your rights, you will understand how people like you look.

Remember though ladies, birth control isn't taken just to prevent pregnancy, it's also used to help regulate the monthly cycle and help with break outs.

I'm an idiot. It took me longer than I'd like to admit to figure out the following comics were connected. I fully agree with everything presented here.

I am pretty sure the female condom exists, so why is this comparing the male condom to female reproductive medication... This is what's wrong with society...

Duh

If men got pregnant birth control would come in the mail, FREE! The government would pay for it. Abortions would be free also and never would have been illegal. Everyone knows this to be true. Just the way it is.

the female equivalent of the condom is not the pill, its the femdom available in all shops. next to condoms. the female equivalent of male masturbation is female masturbation this is not illegal. if im right, what i think youre getting at is that women cant get an abortion if they want one, well men cant force the woman to have an abortion anyway so thats daft as well. i dont get the one about the vasectomy, is it about abortions or hysterectomies?

Katie Rose makes all women look stupid. I mean, really? Comparing a condom (something worn on the outside of a male body) to birth control pills (something ingested that increases the risk of heart attack and stroke in women) is just plain ignorant.

And to be quite honest, I see more sexism against men than I do against women in the U.S.A. today. In other countries (particularly third world countries), there is still extreme sexism against women though.

Please raise examples. Also, do note that this post have the word 'government' in it. In other words, it's not focusing on social expectations on what men can do with their bodies and reproduction but the law.

It's pretty simple

... What do u mean? This comic reflect how the law and society would treat men if they are treated like how women are now.

Jerry Mathers

When Viagra is covered by insurance by birth control isn't, and tampons are tax as a luxury instead of a necessity... I'm thinking it's a little real. Gender inequality is bad for men too. Men are treated like they can't be competent fathers and that isn't fair either.
