I wanted to show you all what it is like to run a non-traditional rescue. We are a non-profit and provide sanctuary care to goats and sheep that are either abused or their family are either terminally ill or have debilitating illnesses that make it impossible to care for them.
As a “livestock” rescue, we do not qualify for grants for neutering or other funding that is available for dogs and cats. Animals that come here under sanctuary status will live the rest of their lives with us. We also take in animals with terminal diagnoses so that they can live their best life, however long they have left. I want you all to know that there are many, many small rescues out there providing care for animals that are pets, but fall outside of the traditional pet definition. In addition, we provide animal-assisted therapy to people with mental health, dementia and other needs. We also provide a “reading goats” program for 2nd and 3rd graders. When they meet their reading goals, they get to read to a goat!
If you would like to see more photos and videos, check out our Facebook page – Shepherds Rest Goat and Sheep Rescue. Also, we are always looking for new volunteers and donations!

They have a lot of personality! Everyone is different, so one of the biggest challenges is when someone new comes into sanctuary, figuring out which group to have them sleep in. They are usually very welcoming of newcomers. I think they realize that they were rescued once too!
