26-year-old power-lifter and strength trainer Leanna Carr is from Colorado, and was visiting Dublin, Ireland, last week. Unfortunately, her experience there was not entirely positive. On April 21st, she uploaded a picture of her swollen knuckles on Twitter, caused by punching a man who sexually assaulted her on the street.

“While walking down the street in Dublin earlier this week, a man grabbed my butt,” she wrote. “He proceeded to laugh hysterically and said ‘you’re an American, you probably liked it’. Apparently traveling solo has made me a better person bc my first reaction was to punch him in the face.”

At first glance, Leanna looks like any other beautiful and sweet girl who, of course, attracts the attention of men. However, that is no reason to violate someone’s personal space with such behavior, and the guy who did so got the response he deserved. For many women, sexual harassment is a painfully uncomfortable topic which makes you feel confused and violated, and that leads to just keeping everything to yourself. Not in Carr’s case, though. “I am never a violent person, and I have never punched anyone before… but I became so angry and had so much adrenaline that my reaction was to punch him. I got him on the cheekbone, hard,” she told The Irish Independent. She admits that if the attack had happened in a not so public place, she wouldn’t have had quite the confidence to react this way. But since it happened in daytime, and on a busy street, Carr realized that she must teach the man a lesson.

After the adrenaline had gone, she wasn’t so sure about her decision. But her Twitter post has received the full support of both women and men, with over 25k likes. Only a few people weren’t sure if the story was true, since they couldn’t believe someone might experience such thing in Dublin.

“Maybe you haven’t seen it, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen,” Carr says in response. “No matter what country you’re in. Sexual harassment happens every day from complete strangers and most women do not know the correct way to respond.

“In the past, I probably would have felt too shocked and timid to have dealt with the situation. I probably would have just walked away… and that man probably would have continued to prey on innocent women,” admits Leanna. “I never use Twitter and didn’t write the post for attention, but I’m glad it went viral. This is something that is very common and hopefully, it encourages more women to feel comfortable and able to stand up for themselves if it does happen to them.

there was once a time when a reaction in the moment was how something like this was dealt with, then as time went on, people didn't react out of fear of being sued. People lost opinions, the right to react, all down to effectively money and blame. Maybe this could be the start of people getting themselves back. She reacted correctly after being dealt with incorrectly.

Why is everyone in here like "and if the role was reversed".... Well it wasn't this is just another day as a attractive female. This happens all the time to women everywhere so stop with the "well what if a female grabbed a guys but" Women have been oppressed, suppressed and disenfranchised by men who sexualize them all throughout recorded history. When that changes we can talk about the "What If's"

Just don't get guys like this. Yes she is very attractive but why not just try to talk to her or even give her some flowers and ask for her number! (cheesy but I lack imagination in these things). Grabbing her butt is neanderthal at best, assault at worst and not going to get a positive reaction.

Yep, Judith, unfortunately there are still quite a few neanderthals roaming the streets. At least this one learnt a few 21st century lessons.

@SexyEggPlant I know, but I'm from Ireland and I know how aggressive guys can be there.

Violence is never the solution, but that guy who grabbed Leanna's butt most likely assumed all women were weak and wouldn't fight back. I feel like he deserved it because it showed him that women aren't always weak and vulnerable.

Love this lady! And to all her naysayers, I hope you all meet Leanna in a dark alley one day!

When that changes we can talk about the "What If's"

i was assaulted many times during a 9 year relationship - broken bones etc - if only i had been physically strong enough to give him what he deserved - she is brilliant!!

I don't think that that punch hurt him if her knuckles are swollen that much. probably aimed for the cheek.

Why is this even a story? Guys do this all the time and women react to is in their own way.

Just don't get guys like this. Yes she is very attractive but why not just try to talk to her or even give her some flowers and ask for her number! (cheesy but I lack imagination in these things). Grabbing her butt is neanderthal at best, assault at worst and not going to get a positive reaction.

I say good for her. But after scrolling through the comments I see plenty of comments with people thinking guys would never get raped by a woman. I was raped by a woman who was not a stranger to me and it was an experience I still feel sickened by.

If a man did hit a woman for grabbing his butt people won't think twice about it and get mad with the man because people don't really think it would happen of course I would do and i'd get away with it with my age

Here’s a good rule: don’t say/do anything to a woman on the street that you wouldn’t want said/done to you in prison...

She punched him? Big deal. Women can be strong but I don't think its something to have an SJW boner

I agree with margie's comment that it shouldnt be counteracted with violence! and I dont like how the girl in this post handled it even if what he was doing was wrong! she should not be seen as a hero for punching someone! this is a prime example of how twisted our society is today.

So it's not f****d up for the guy to sexually assault a stranger? She should have just brushed it off? I think you're the twisted one.

What on Bored Panda isn't a ploy to get notoriety? Now she's gonna be hit up for training and "self defense."

glad she did it. but make me Wonder... if a girl does the same thing and the guy punch her would it be ok? if woman want the same right as mens, men should be allow to punch her right? but it doesn't feel right. and again... equality doesn't exist.

Isn't it fun how people like you immediately wish to know if you can hit a woman? Equality doesn't exist because you aren't supposed to hit someone who maybe isn't as strong as you? What a weird way of thinking.

Violence as an answer for sexual harrasment is not OK, but better punch that a*****e in the face than whining on the internet that somebody grabbed my but (or cat called or whatever) without any reaction to that guy and justlooking for internet pity me...

Were you ever sexually harrassed? Probably not. So why these judgements?

Just yesterday, a friend of my boyfriend come to me online and asked if I would break up with my boyfriend and date him and all of us know that this dude is not the best influence nor would he pass up the opportunity to sexually assault me. This is an issue that needs to be dealt with. I'm fifteen. This shouldn't happen to anyone.

1) That has nothing to do with this. 2) He clearly isn't your boyfriend's friend.

Does this violent moron on actually think that we should applaud her response? What if a man did that to a woman? Do you really think that men are not sexually harassed by women every single day?! Grow up.

Hey look everyone, I found the guy who think it's okay to grab complete strangers by the a*s. You sound like an angry piece of s**t, Jackson. I'm guessing if some big gay dude did this to you, you'd have the same reaction she had.

Yeah, yeah she really is. See, if he hadn't been a disgusting perv, she wouldn't have had to resort to that. Get it?
