I hate this scenario: Cut your hair short. Gets styled and very pretty after the cut by the hairdresser. You are sooo happy! Next day. Everything is s mess and no one or nothing could save it! There's not enough amount of hair products in the world! Next 6 months. You do anything to hide it until the hair grows back.

Use those hairbands that are curly, you know, they look like those old telephone cables that hung on the horn. They spread the pressure evenly and so don't weigh your bun down. It really works!

I can relate to this. It's a texture issue. I have fine, slippery hair that never stays up. The "greasy onion" look comes from all the product used to try to make it behave. Better to call a truce, and give your hair a good cut that looks good with minimal fuss.

It really is. I've rage same type hair as yours, and my ponytail is not as thick as a US quarter is round. Between a nickel and a quarter. I quit trying to bun my hair, I twist it then put an octopus clip in. It's below my shoulder blades ATM, and it's finally long enough for hair sticks. I can barely braid it (shoulder issues) so it's either in a ponytail or clipped up, depending on where it is in the wash cycle, lol!

Totally! Of course, mine looks ridiculous at any length between long and short, and it takes years to grow out because it's curly. I get an inch or two and I'm all like "SHAVE IT OFF!!" :D

My hair gets messed up by wind easily, so I keep getting it out of the way, but I always feel terribly self conscious when I do it exactly because of that: people associate messing with your hair with showing it off and/or flirting. It's why I only wear sunglasses when it's really unbearable without them... because so many people wear them just to be cool and fashionable now they're associated with being stuck up.

I can never get my hair in acceptable condition for donating: even with no heat, constant conditioning, and one wash a week. [Until a few months ago, I dyed my roots dark brown every 9-12 weeks with a light refresher on the rest of the color, so that really shouldn't have caused any serious problems.] It's not frizz so much as... the strands kink weirdly. All the greater's the shame since, though the strands are fine, my hair is so thick every stylist who's touched it has commented on it. And exactly ONE knew how to cut the stuff. Everyone else was scissoring for hours. She bent it, ran the blade down to remove the cocker spaniel ears, and was done in ten minutes. Too bad going to her salon was an expensive treat that I could only spurge on once so far.

My hair gets greasy in less than a day...until I bleached it to do it all pink/ blue/ purple/ whatever the truck I wanted. Dried the roots just enough that I could go for a couple of days without having to wash it *thumbs up*

If you wash your hair everyday, it will get greasier. It adapts to produce more grease because you keep removing it so often.And at the same time, it will get dry and frizzy, because it needs the moisture and you keep taking it all off.

Yeah, my hair used to get greasy super fast and i trained it (via longer and longer intervals between washing it*) to only need to be washed every few days. It's great because it takes 3 days before it even starts looking greasy, vs 12 hours like it used to be. *see also: laziness

Now they have this product called "Dry Shampoo" and it works for those in between days when you don't want to or can't wash your hair. Before this came out, a tiny bit of baby powder in your roots, did the trick too. Just be sure to brush it thru your hair to it's ends.

Using a teaspoon baking soda with 8oz. water mixture helps greasy hair. If it's too dry then using the same measurements but apple cider vinegar instead of baking soda will help. When I first went 'no 'poo' these are the two things I used during the transition period. It's been five years and no issues!

Brushing your hair before washing helps to prevent "drain rats"! I have many fewer incidents of blocked drains since I started doing that. I still have to part my hair after washing, though. I generally air-dry till damp then braid it. :)

I usually do 2 loose Dutch braids (reverse french braid?) And leave in until my hair dries (longer than just over night for me... Wash hair mid-day, braid, sleep and then take out). I also 'brush out' with fingers or a wide tooth comb. I use a brush once... My hair has never been bigger and uglier lol.

When I wore glasses, I'd just put them back on when it was time to look at the result. What irks me, though, is when people ask "how is it?" with my hair still all wet. My hair is thick as hell, it'll double the volume when it's dry, I can't possibly tell if it's good or not when it's wet.

Grow it the way you like it. You live with it 24/7. At 76, I have a full head of hair in its natural color that comes halfway down my back. When someone asks my why I have it so long, I just tell them that 1. I like it that way, and 2, I still can. Went to a class reunion a few years ago that really perked me up. Almost all the other men were grey and/or bald.

I've cut my own hair for about the last 15 years. I have long hair. I pull it all the way up above my head, cut straight across to cut the ends - automatic layers. Then I just brush the hair in front of both of my shoulders and trim until things look even. Voila.

I always cut my own hair. Haven't been in a hairdresser more than 5 years. BUT, I have very long hair, so, a lot of mistake allowance. I wouldn't dare it with short hair.

Actually, most of hairdressers just do not stop asking what I want and do not offer even the smallest advice (e.g., if to cut straight, round, or triangle; even what length keep the bangs). The only one who advised was a stylist, and I love the haircut he offered (my hair are pretty long)

I used to do this and always ended up dissapointed. Now I find photos of celebs or photos from the web or hair style mags (styles that I know work with my hair type) and take them with me. Problem solved!

Coconut oil is a great product to use in hair, beards, skin, and is a natural sun screen... Welcome men to a wife with thick curls and my three kids with her hair... also leave in conditioner and use just a little shampoo with a half a bottle of conditioner, spacious bristle brushes, and never use a comb!

Hate coconut oil smell, consistency, it does not help with my hair, is pain to wash out, gives breakouts to my skin, so I do not touch it.

Sometimes I believe the hairdressers do not know how to elementary brush the hair, especially longer (start from the bottom, not top, do not use dense comb, use the spray non-washable balm...). They start from the top, and then get into such tangles I have to rip them out :(

I went in with hair down to my waste. It was all combed out, but wind whipped it a little on my way in. There a couple of tiny tangles. She started at the top, and got the tangles good and tight. She added more as she tried to comb it straight back with a fine comb. She got frustrated and just started ripping through it. The manager called her over and started yelling, saying, "I don't care if the come in here with lice....." Me, being somewhat autistic, did not understand any of that (though I remembered it verbatim) until years later. I just sat and smiled and didn't understand the lice conversation related to me. I am both angry and ashamed. I'll never forget it.

You CAN actually change your part. It just takes consistency and the willingness to pin your hair over every single day. Make your part where you want it, pin it down every day, and after a month or two it will stay.

OHH HELL YES! One day a friend have birthday in a club and these girls all smoke except me, and in the club also some others smoke, when I back home 4:30 in the morning I smell myself so disgusting, all over me especially MY HAIR smells smoke and it's so disgusting, I was exhausted to death, still I took a shower, usually lazy as me wouldnt do that

My friends and I once had a contest to see who could throw pens the furthest into my hair, and see which ones were completely hidden. We miscounted so one stayed there for a few hours. I hadn't even noticed. Whoops.

If you wash it everyday it’s unhealthy you need the natural greasiness of it to be healthy! You should wash your hair no more than 2 to 3 times a week!! I do it on Wednesday and Sunday, occasionally on Saturday or Friday if I am going out

Yep... cut hair that covered my a** to the waist. During lunch break. Also, sides got angled cut from the lips down to waist. Guess how many noticed at work? (in their defense, that day only guys were working)

If your hair is thick and full, you gotta them them that when cutting short, so they'll get rid of some of the volume too with invisible layers. When they manage it right, it saves my life.

And that's why I never grow my hair long. Luckily, I look far better with my short hair. Before I stay whole day at school, that is. After that it looks like a tumble weed. As some artists pointed out, sometimes even short hair is a long struggle. :D

The shorter it is, the harder to keep it in place since you don't have many options, and the more noticeable it is if it's a tiny bit out of place. But I still prefer short hair.
