Women Are Sharing Stories About Men Who Acted Superior When It Came To Their Geeky Interests (23 Tweets)
Video games are for everyone. And everyone plays them, no matter their gender or background. Because video games are awesome! It’s a simple idea, but some people still find it hard to grasp.
When Shayna Moon, Associate Producer at the Sony studio in Santa Monica, shared the time a guy talked down to her and questioned if she even plays on a PlayStation, she sparked a viral Twitter thread. Other women shared their own experiences about what happened when dudes talked down to them because of their geeky hobbies. Scroll down, read about what happened, and share your own experiences in the comments, dear Pandas.
Shayna’s Twitter thread got over 90k likes and was retweeted more than 7.9k times which just goes to show that her message resonated with a lot of geeks out there.

I started sometimes giving such braindead answers too, quickest way to get rid of undesirables.
Commenting on strangers like that is impolite in any situation, really. Hope that taught him to mind his damn business.
This seems to happen so often, with female creators getting dismissed by fans of their own work.
Shayna is a true professional and nobody should doubt her love of video games. She worked in development teams behind the immensely popular God of War video game which was released in 2018 and sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.
Shayna also volunteers with Amplifying New Voices, a program designed to educate diverse candidates on the ins and outs of the gaming industry.
For her achievements and involvement with video games most of her life, Shayna was included in Forbes 30 Under 30 list, in the 2020 Games category. That’s the kind of recognition we video game geeks could only dream about!
They can't seem to hear your ovaries. They prefer to be a d**k about it
I'd tell him I want to return it & buy it at some place that doesn't hire sexist people.
Age is just a number. IQ is a very inportant number. This guy probably had a very low important number.
According to Shayna, she has a “people-first” approach when it comes to video game production. She focuses on seeing people as individuals and seeing what work processes help them feel at home and keep them motivated to do their best.
But Shayna has a lot more talents than just working on video games. She’s also a writer and boasts some short stories and pieces of fiction that you can find on her personal website. In fact, she’s been writing fanfiction since 2003!
why are there so many negative comments? people running out of people to make feel bad so that they can feel better about their life? tsh. nice job shutting them up tho. kudos
But surely she was wearing it to please Hubby! That's literally her job! Amirite?... Right??... Anyone... ?
So recommend them the best product.it will kill them to see how right you are!
You actually ASKED for something new to read, he recommends something, then disses you for not having read it. No class...
I was in line at the supermarket last week and this guy thought he was the mayor of the line, trying to tell people where to place their carts and just running his mouth the whole time. I kept saying to myself, "not my goat, not my problem". Then he starts spouting, "It's like that song about keeping your hands to yourself by that woman from years ago" and he kept going on about it. I finally snapped. I said, "First of all, it wasn't a woman. Secondly, it was the 1986 song Keep Your Hands to Yourself by The Georgia Satellites. I actually saw them in concert back in the 80's, they opened for REO Speedwagon at SPAC." He dejectedly said, "It wasn't a woman?" I said, "No, it was The Georgia Satellites, you can look it up". He shut up after that, paid for his stuff and left. It wasn't even 8am and I was up to here with the whole situation. Charlie-up...49348d.jpg
Exactly. I can appreciate and even create music without knowing who wrote or performed a song on the radio!
Well to be fair her answer could be taken either way. Sounds like he was one of the good ones.
I am a research scientist and recently published a paper on psychedelics that got discussed on a reddit forum. When I found it and chimed in to clear up a couple points, some asshat mansplained my research to me. I was like, thanks bro.
Ed, I don't know what your damn problem is with me, but I don't need a damn thing explained to me. I am a pretty intelligent and strong woman and wish you luck with whatever your issue is.
Load More Replies...I have had similar experiences in fandom, but funnily enough it was not with men. Once when I was out with friends someone had invited a girl, who was a superfan of a popular book series I also like. They introduced us and her first words were "Oh, you like those books too, let me test you!" and proceeds to try to quiz me. Another girl tried to tell me I hadn't read "real" fantasy if I hadn't read The Lord of the Rings (I had read it). Gatekeepers suck the fun out of everything.
you don't have to know everything about a fandom to like it...
Load More Replies...I love the mansplaining ones. So recognizable! Me and a girlfriend were once playing a game of mega chess against two guys at a festival. The amount of men stopping and explaining to us how to play chess was astounding. We know how to play dude, we're winning, help those guys. Best part was when we left (after we won), one guy came up to us and apologized. "Sorry I assumed you couldn't play. It's just that normally women don't know chess." Not making it any better man, still insulting half of the world's population..
Guys who mansplain think that continued mansplaining is an apology.
