But prob would double as toilet even now, and then it would be nutrient for the plants 🤭

Most residential streets are losing 2 parking spots to enable a garden at each end, and they're cutting into the sidewalks every 3 meters to add as many trees as possible. The green areas are filled with perennial plants and flowers that bloom from spring till winter. It's amazing here!
A majority, if not all, HOAs would fine you for this "mess of weeds". It's been happening more and more lately. Can't all of us rally together to bsn them? I love native yards. Grass is such a waste of water.
It is! We decided we are doing creeping thyme for our yard. It is drought tolerant ( I live in the desert) and also has flowers on it for bees!
Load More Replies...How can anyone look at these two photos and tell me that diversity isn't beautiful?
Yes. But with WAY better edge maintenance, as that overgrown setup can be an accessibility/hazard issue for a variety of disabled people.
Not to mention, if this is near an intersection, it can block visibility for motorists.
Load More Replies...Lots of side streets in my neighborhood like this, community gardens too its pretty cool
Bottom picture neighborhood probably doesn't have a HOA. Good for them.
There is a group here in the US Pacific NW that does the same thing. In the fall, they go to abandoned old farmsteads, cemeteries and the like in search of apple trees that are bearing. If they see something they don't recognize, they take a sample of fruit and leaf and compare it with descriptions in a master database. If they have indeed rediscovered an old variety, they have to go back again to the location in the dormant winter season to take a cutting (scion.) This is then grafted onto a rootstock so that the variety can be perpetuated. It's not as simple as planting the seeds since apples aren't true-to-type.
Believe it or not aside from it looking gorgeous, this also helps to reduce the surface and temperature of the area
It's not just about how it looks; it's about people recognising that we need nature, regardless of what it looks like. We are part of nature and if we harm it, we are only harming ourselves.
They didn't just rearrange and improve the street, they did the same to the windows on the buildings.
No, if you take a close look at both pictures, you will see they are indeed the same street.

First and foremost, we wanted to hear his take on what to plant. After all, there is one school of thought that believes in purely aesthetic gardens, while others strive for “practicality.”
“Edible plants have their own beauty. Vegetables of different colors and structure can look good all year especially when using no dig methods. That’s because you can easily keep replanting to have a full garden, and no dig plants look healthier with glowing leaves,” he shared.
Cartagena has a competition for best planted balcony, the winner gets let off whatever they call rates there. It looked like some of them spent more on plants than it would have cost in rates. But everyone wins when your buildings look like that
Is this Cartagena in Spain or one of the several Cartagenas in different South American countries? Wherever it is, it's beautiful!
Load More Replies...I would like to see this in 3 to 5 years. The building will probably be covered in plants.
Hope she shares them. Mass production of tomatoes for grocery stores accidentally resulted in the gene for tangy smell/flavour being bred out of most varieties. They've created GMO strains that simply have the gene reinserted from other tomatoes, but people won't accept them because they don't know how GMO works.
I have seeds from my grandma, who is keeping old seeds every year. When I have more, I will share them :)
Load More Replies...What if she's just exceptionally small and it's a normal sized mater?
"All we wanted was a bigger, healthier tomato!" "You mean?" "Yes. This, God help us, is a Cherry Tomato!" Has she tried playing 'Puberty Love' to it?
welp... maybe the weeds think we're in the wrong place

Unfortunately in the city I live in this would result in a nasty-gram on your front door from code enforcement. 1st time: Warning giving you 10 days to mow, clean it up.and put on 3 month probation. 2nd: $350.00 fine that is attached to your water bill, if you don't pay they shut off your water, sewer, sanitation and give 6 month probation. 3rd: $750.00 fine, water, sewer, sanitation will be cut of if not paid and 1 year probation. After that they will condemn and give you an eviction from the property. It sounds harsh but in neighborhoods, problem residents effects everyone around them. Fleas, Ticks, Rats, Mice, Snakes and Spiders are a few of the things I've had to deal with from the houses next door. Add on pets that they do not take care of then you've doubled your problems. Neglecting your pet is enough to p**s me the f**k off, but if there are CHILDREN involved and you're putting them in an unsafe environment, Yes we are going to have a MASSIVE problem !!!
It's No Mow May now, so you're off the hook for at least a month!
Load More Replies...Naturally, if you will pardon the pun, we were curious to hear his opinion on what sorts of plants are good for beginners. “Potatoes, courgette/zucchini, garlic (plant October), salad onions and salad leaves of any kind. Especially lettuce which can produce so much when you “pick and come again”, and homegrown lettuce has great flavor!”
I like this one. Now here plants are really doing a lot of good. Reclaiming a desolate area.
What seasons were these photos taken in.Isn't that just the difference between spring and winter and Scotland
I think that's a vegetable harden, not a flower garden. It will have its flowers in season.
Load More Replies...I have both. A large TV and a 40' x 64' garden. Also bunnies, deer and ducks in my yard. People post stuff like this as if they are mutually exclusive. They are not. It's okay to enjoy both TV shows and nature. Mind you, I didn't push and shove at a black friday sale for my tv - I just went to Costco and bought it.
The shocking reality is that supermarket veg are better for the environment than home grown. Your few carrots will take bags full of compost, your own hose, your own hoes, your own wheelbarrow, etc etc etc. Unbelieveably inefficient in comparison to mass produced food. Tomatoes grown in the south of Spain, and transported to the UK, are more carbon efficient than a tomato grown in your own garden in Manchester.
If we didn't have the screens how would we watch the YouTube videos to figure out how to do all this
I work at a library. Your thought process startles me.
Load More Replies...I have family I see often, but it's my plants that keep me company while housebound.

So if you are interested in learning more, Charles suggested a few resources. “If you don’t know it yet, please check out the no dig method via my website and YouTube channel. No dig saves so much time, whether you grow ornamentals or vegetables. You will notice your plants looking exuberant, fewer weeds, and more time to enjoy the garden.”
My parents had their garden redone with all native species and you would not believe the amount of wildlife it attracts. I even saw my first blue-banded native bee, a species that until then I didn't even know existed!
Congratulations! I hope you all enjoy your little island of biodiversity for many years to come! Just think, you could be responsible for the continuation of a species that could otherwise have been on the brink of extinction and not even know it!
Load More Replies...Sadly, some places will spray toxic herbicide because they're "weeds" 🙄
Just have to keep all the Instagram "influencers" from trampling through the flowers to get the perfect picture for their profile, enjoying nature (while they crush the blooms and destroy it for others).
Omigod YES! If see one more main character moron trespassing so they can make themselves look good I'm going to put on a clown mask and jump into the shot, over and over again until they leave.
Load More Replies...Just yesterday I participated in a project where we collected native seeds in an Arizona regional park near where I live so they can be seed bombed into areas needing restoration. I'm helping collect seeds again next weekend. I never knew this was a thing until I signed up to help
The one thing about seed bombing is--how do you keep the plants from getting cut down before they can do anything? Every place I can find to throw seeds gets mowed regularly so the flowers would just get cut before they could even bloom.
I'm allergic to sunflowers and would probably die, but it might be worth it.
Beautiful. I am afraid that this would become a home for black widows, scorpions and the occasional rattlesnake where I reside.
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to do this but omg same...

I’m thinking of one of those plant heads, you know the ones you usually see as Bob Ross and the plants you grow is his hair? I need one of those but Cthulhu, and then I’ll grow his tentacle beard-mouth!
Charles also left us with some parting thoughts on what sort of questions to ask yourself. “Become curious! How do plants grow? New research into rhizophagy shows the importance of bacteria. How much watering is necessary? Often less! What is the best spacing? Depends partly on what you want from the plants.” If you want to see more gardening memes, check out our previous article on the topic.

What this picture needs is a buckwheat field. Blooms pinkish white and smells pretty. You know, for harmony
It could be, but there are many lavender fields that look similar so it’s unlikely
Load More Replies...So precise! When I lived in Germany, I often saw fields like this. So beautiful,
Lavender-fields in Germany? I've never seen any of those, although it might be because I live too far north. I've seen lavender-fields in France, though
Load More Replies...Probably because they harvest and later plow the wheat but not the lavender, so whenever there is some spreadage from the lavender ino the wheat, it gets plowed under.
Load More Replies..."I'm just going to trim the hedge" always turns into "I've rototilled 2 acres so now I need to plant enough vegetables to feed North Alabama".

They are what I call the 'string of' plants... string of hearts, string of coins, string of pearls, string of bananas, string of dolphins...
Load More Replies...Shush! Don't tell the government, they might outlaw it.
Load More Replies...I admire people who successfully garden vegetables on this scale. The planning, the labor, the hard-won knowledge and skill about plants, soil, and hungry nature, and then coping with whatever the weather decides to do!
I just shove things in the ground and hope for the best. I got two dozen potatoes last year though, so I'm planting more this year
Load More Replies...It's like printing your own money, but spending all your initial money on printing equipment, only to find out that the ink costs more than the printed money is worth. I used to grow vegetables in my garden for a while, and it was sooooo much fun and so satisfying, absolutely loved it. But it's not necessarily very cost effective. Which is totally fine if you view it as a hobby, but if you're doing it to save a lot of money, you may be disappointed.
Me too, it's like printing your own money but you spent 95% of the cost in supplies
Load More Replies...Printing your own money will get you free room and board for about twenty years.
Are the colors real? Wow, I‘ve never seen a yellow or a black one, … and especially not a yellow AND black one!
Yellow oncidiums (nicknamed "dancing ladies") and other orchids are very common, as are dark purple (which is what you're seeing here) sadly, if you see a black one (or blue) it is dyed.
Load More Replies...Some conservative Christians would flip out over Rainbow Corn.. “Now the liberals are making corn gay! We must stop this!”
I think this is the variety of corn known as “Glass Gem” It’s a Native American heirloom variety
Yes- it was created in the 1980s and is either ornamental or ground for cornmeal.
Load More Replies...I AM a conservative Christian ...and the first and only thing I thought when I saw this corn was "how beautiful". Please stop with lumping people in to categories
That's what we've been telling conservative Christians. Glad you got it right.
Load More Replies...Hi pandas! I’d like to clarify my earlier post about the photo above. I was referring to *some* conservative Christians (that was literally my first word) and at *no* point did I say f.ex. that there’s an complete overlap between bigoted people and conservatives. I’m a religious person myself and I have many conservative friends. This is also not about Christianity- research in social psychology and related disciplines have shown the same pattern in Islam and Judaism- that there is a sub-group of hateful and bigoted people and that they are much more likely conservatives than liberals. 1/2
2/2 There are theories that people, regardless of what their religion or, are drawn to more aggressive beliefs due to life experiences, beliefs that others around them have, and personality traits. The joke that I wrote was influenced by an online post I recently saw. A lady posted a picture of some vehicle spraying water on a street and it formed a rainbow. Her comment was something like: ‘now they are spraying homosexual mists into our homes, trying to turn our children gay.’ There are individuals that really believe nutty things like that! But I don’t want to offend anyone, and I got the point about political jokes, so I’ll keep them on the back burner for now.

That would make a gorgeous bridal bouquet for someone that doesn't want a traditional one!
According to my time as an herbologist at the school of Bored Panda comments for the last few minutes (ahem) those are a variety of succulents.
Load More Replies...I would rather have a barrel, so I could chose not to waterboard the plants during a rainstorm.. 🤷♂️
Plants get water boarded every time it rains, in a barrel, wooden planter, or whatever unless they're inside.
Load More Replies...It looks like it's constructed of wood , so if you put it along the house the rainwater can soften the wood. In addition it could get between the planter and run down to the foundation of the house, which would be very bad. If you look at the style of the foundation there is a gap between the outer wall and the ground. If water were to settle underneath that area and have slow drainage, then eventually it will begin to wash out and damage the foundation. I've seen several homes, they are generally older houses, that have the same type of foundation and also developed the same problem with it eventually washing/rotting away. It takes longer on a brick home like mine on a concrete foundation which was built in 1972, my North wall is an area of concern right now, due to the issue of washing out over the years. You also have homes with a crawlspace underneath, like my Sister and 2 of my family friends that were built in the 50's.
Those are especially susceptible due to weather and age and the type of climate you are in also plays a role. In the South there are several States that are unable to have basements and that one of the big reasons why. There are very few, actually if any homes in Oklahoma have basements because of the type of dirt that we have here. Storm Shelters or Cellars are the only real thing that you can safely put below ground because there isn't anything sitting on top of it like the weight of a house. Florida is also really high on the list as far as foundation support and cannot have basements due to the extensive amount of limestone throughout the state. Louisiana also is unable to have basements and different foundations since most of the State is under sea level and can flood easily in some places ( New Orleans, I'm looking at you ) that has been repeatedly proven due to Hurricanes and Tropical Storms.

Load More Replies...Passion flowers are so beautiful, and it's tragic the blooms only last for a day! However, gotta be careful where you plant them - they're considered weeds and will take over an area really quickly, like really fast! They grow on fast growing vines that'll take over your wall/fence (which may be a good thing, except when it's not!)
I'm soaking passion vine seeds right now to plant tomorrow. They're native where I live, and they're host and nectar plants for lots of butterflies.
I swear I thought this was a spam post at a glance 😅🤦♂️ cheers must look them up
Load More Replies...I have neighbors who are growing these everywhere. They are as big as car tires now. The rain has done them well!
If I were an ill mannered person I would "call BS on this". However I will confine myself to "gosh what's the name of this amazing plant"
Hoya or "wax plant". Typically they have white flowers, but it's amazing what nurseries can grow nowadays.
Load More Replies...This is a hoya, also called wax plant. The blooms are so perfect they really do look fake!
When someone asks me, "What's a Hoya?" I tell them it's a seafaring plant...

Load More Replies...This is why one should be very careful if food shows mold. The other end of the cheese or bread might look okay, but the mold may have reached it already. To avoud wasting food, use the freezer. E.g. to store bread you won't eat within a day or two, once thawed it will look and taste the same.
That mushroom is merely the w@ng of the network.

Load More Replies...OR! when they cover a beautiful bouquet of flowers in glitter!?&%. I know right!
It's more common to over-water plants than under-water, especially succulents. My general rule of thumb is waiting til the soil pulls away from the sides of the pot, then water deeply. Allow it to drain completely (don't let it sit in water -wet "feet" encourage root rot) good luck!
Load More Replies...this is the same thing as the one in the apartment building, right?
This is actually many, MANY different succulents...and more of a display/show piece for like a plant show or something - looks like a succulent Christmas tree to me - cute, but not sustainable. Sustaining these would be pretty impossible in this setup, and they would die, in all likelihood.
Load More Replies...I love it, but how do you go about watering them without damaging the furnishings?
Very carefully, with not too much water? Or using a ladder, maybe, and taking them down, probably. I love the look of hanging plants, but it's a royal pain in the butt watering them all.
Load More Replies...Seems to be a “hickory horned devil,” caterpillar of the regal moth. Not one of the poisonous/venomous caterpillars

What a lovely critter! And the spikes are quite fetching.
All these relaxing beautiful plants, and then THIS absolute jumpscare all of a sudden!!
What kind of a plant is this? I inherited one similar from my mother.
That's how chickens "bathe". They lie in the dirt and kick it all over their bodies, the dirt absorbs all the excess moisture and oil off their skin and feathers, then they shake it all off.
I thought someone planted bird seeds, and now they started to hatch. 🤭🙃🖖
