Someone Compared ‘Game Of Thrones’ To ‘Shrek’ In 17 Scenes And The Similarities Are Incredible
Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff had a difficult task ahead of them after the end of the fifth season – invent new Game of Thrones plots without the carefully crafted and detailed guide of George R.R Martin’s books. Unfortunately, this led to a season finale that left much to be desired, but the author revealed his ending in his much anticipated next novel would differ from the HBO series.
So if Weiss and Benioff didn’t have the books to rely on for inspiration, then how did they come up with seasons 6 – 8? One Twitter user posted a thread that compares GOT characters and plot with the beloved animated classic Shrek movies – and the side by side comparison similarities are almost too coincidental.
This fan theory sparked the twitter account @Shrekgot, dedicated solely to these screenshot comparisons and even a GoT + Shrek trailer, which combines scenes from Game of Thrones dubbed with the voices from Shrek.
Someone on Twitter just pointed out that ‘Game of Thrones’ is a live action version of ‘Shrek’ and the internet is losing its mind
The similarities are endless from the costume design inspirations
To the cinematography (maybe not as climactic in animation)
Of course, we can’t forget the intelligent and empathetic dragon characters in both
Are the Dothraki really that savage or are they just misunderstood?
Other fans joined the thread with even more plot similarities
Come on the adorable Podrick sure does look a lot like human Shrek
Arya and Puss in Boots definitely could go head to head in a duel

Hmm there certainly are a lot of character doppelgangers between the two. Fiesty, smirking, with plenty of tricks up her sleeve, Olenna Tyrell was the closest thing to a ‘Fairy Godmother’ on GOT
Two short men with large personalities and styles, however, Tyrion Lannister would make no doubt a better ruler than Lord Farquaad
Much like Jon Snow, King Harold’s true (frog) identity was not revealed until later – and it still made no difference
Hold the door! There is a giant gingerbread barreling through
"Can I copy your homework?" "Yeah, but make sure it doesn't look obvious"
My friend - "Game of Thrones has dragons, swordfights, and mythical creatures" // Me: yeah so does Shrek
First of all Tyrion is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy better than Lord Farquad (or how ever you spell his name.)
YES!!! Lord Farquaad's name is a play on "f*ckwad," and Tyrion is absolutely better!
