Woman Unaware That ‘Furry Convention’ Is Not For Pets, Takes Her Therapy Dog There And Becomes Famous

New York Media senior producer Kenny Wassus got a kick when he realized his mother went to the Motor City Furry Convention, thinking it was an event for pets, and brought her therapy dog Link with her. The pup being furry himself, it seemed like a logical choice.

Cheryl Wassus, Kenny’s mother, said: “I learned so much about this whole new culture of people who get together and dress up in furry costumes. I had no idea… It was a little embarrassing at first because Link was just a little curious why people were wearing tails, so he was doing some serious tail-sniffing and checking out people.”

Once the doggie got used to the environment, Link seemed to be having a blast. The two even ended up participating in a panel at the con, which raised $10,000 for Pets for Vets, an organization that connects dogs with war veterans.

As for Cheryl, she isn’t planning to get into furry culture scene herself: “No, I don’t think so. No. You know, you get a little older, a little menopausal, and being in that many layers and layers of fur. No need to be overheating [in a furry costume]. I’m good.”

Okay, before there is going to be a crowd in the comment section of outing the other side of this fandom, I'll say this: Yes, it's true that the furry community has a "mature" side since it started and I won't deny that fact. However, some of you are also missing the point that the furry community is also one of the most loving, open and accepting community at the same time: whether you're brown, white, bisexual, asexual, male, female, have a disease (physical, mentally or none), have depression or you're happy, we don't mind, you are welcomed in the community with open arms, just like this lady experienced. What you see here is a small part of the community. Remember that NOT every furry or furry artist is part of that mature side of this community and there are many different variations of these furry cons. Please take all of this information into consideration. Nonetheless, let's now just enjoy the photos of the dog and this lady who had a great time out there! :D

Michael, thank you _so_ much for addressing that! A lot of people, when they think of Furries, think of yiff (the more... sexual... aspect of Furry culture), and that really isn't the point of it. I was going to exactly the same comment before you did. Thank you from a Furry (:

The convention was a success if they were able to educate a "civilian" about their lifestyle! I love that Cheryl just went with the flow and stayed, rather than leaving, once she realized her mistake. I wish more people had her open mindedness and curiosity!

Did anyone else notice the connection in the pic with the Hylian Shield and the dog's name?

Whats to hate from furries. For me anything fluffy, cuddly and hugable is nice. Not quite understand why most people hate it. My kids used to have this bear pyjama and it's cute.

Don't listen to Joe, Henny Hana. He's simply a cranky bully. Nonetheless, there is a side to the fandom (which I explain in a comment more on top) that is more mature. That's unfortunatly the reason why many hate the fandom for it, while they completely filter out all the good things the community does for others.

Sure, but as with any kink or fetish, personal preference is the main factor. And sex certainly wouldn't happen in such a public setting!

This is just adorable, and it’s awesome seeing older people see furries and not immediately denounce them, and it’s even better to see the distinct lack of angry 12yo’s in this comment section lol

Furry Conventions are not something new. They've been around some time now and have been covered in news magazines, sitcoms, and murder mysteries on TV. I'm glad so much money was raised for service animals for veterans.

I certainly had NO idea people get a kick out of dressing up in HOT furry costumes. Not really my idea of fun. But, I'm glad they had the class and respect and manners which they apparently showed to this woman and her ADORABLE dog. This is one of those good happy accidents. If they weren't quite SO big I could easily own a Bernese Mountain Dog. I would have LOVED to have seen a picture of the dog sniffing some of the tails of these people. That would have been hysterical. In fact, I bet the members got a kick out of having a REAL furry friend there. I'd bet money on that next year they have some there intentionally.

So every woman that wears high heels is living a fetish? How is it even possible there are so many narrow-minded people? Don't get it...

She should have put a leather studded collar on Link ... He could have been part of the "leather crowd" at the furry convention.
