Just when you think you’ve ‘seen it all,’ the internet finds a pleasant way to throw you a curve ball. Now, we all know that names are incredibly important. What we call our pets, for example, is going to follow them their entire lives, so there’s a ton of responsibility there. And while some people like to give their pets extremely traditional names, others feel like it’s best to have a bit of fun with them!
It’s refreshing to see just how creative people can be! The Figo Pet Insurance team has filmed a series of TikToks where they share some of the wittiest and silliest pet names that they’ve come across in their line of work. Albus Dumbledog is just the tip of the Iceberg of Awesomeness! Bored Panda has reached out to the Figo Pet Insurance team, and we’ll update the article as soon as we hear back from them.

Figo Pet Insurance has over 10.1k followers on TikTok and has amassed a whopping 1.6 million likes on the video-sharing platform. The company’s ‘Pet Names’ video series is incredibly popular on the site, with some videos getting millions of views.
And it’s easy to see why. They’re brief, witty, and full to the brim with charm. Not only that, we hope you’re taking notes because some of these pet names are far too good not to pitch to your friends when they rescue their next forever friend from the shelter.
The Figo team prides itself on how much they love animals. According to their website, 88% of their 140 team members are proud pet parents! So you know for a fact that they practice what they preach. The company also jokingly adds on its site that they’ve purchased 2,500 lint rollers since being founded. But that stat is overshadowed by the $79.9 million in vet bills that Figo has paid.
...good work, BP, putting a dog stock photo on a clearly feline name XD
According to Figo, one of their main priorities is to focus on simplicity. “We simplify it as much as possible so you understand the coverage you're getting and what it means for your pet,” they share.
The team also puts a strong emphasis on transparency, authenticity, and honesty, and prides itself for its passion and inclusivity. Moreover, among its core values are both flexibility and the importance of community.
“We love pets, love what we do, and love where we're headed,” the company writes. “As a proud LGBTQ+ founded company, we believe every person and every pet should see themselves reflected in the work we do.”
What kind of name an owner goes for when they bring their pet home will depend a lot on their character. Not everyone’s alike! Some folks might value their pets’ ‘original’ names, for instance. So they might elect to keep the name their cat or dog was given by its breeders. Or they might keep the name the animal’s former owner gave it before giving it to a shelter.
Others might want human-sounding names or might prefer giving their best pals ‘traditional’ sounding dog and cat names that they’ve been hearing ever since they were little. But it brings joy to our hearts to know just how many proud pet parents aren’t afraid to think outside the box and come up with funny and punny names that we can’t help but smile at.
According to Kissamo, some of the top male dog names in 2023 include Charlie, Cooper, Max, Bailey, Bowie, Toby, Marley, Loki, Teddy, and Clark. All in all, they sound very traditional, like you’d expect. Meanwhile the top female dog names this year so far include Luna, Chloe, Bella, Lucy, Daisy, Stella, Lola, Zoey (and Zoe!), Ivy, and Nala. We’re particularly big fans of Loki, Teddy, Ivy, and Nala.
Meanwhile, Cosmopolitan has some rather interesting dog name suggestions. For example, if you’re a fan of animals in general, you might want to consider naming your pupperino Bear, Panther, Badger, Otter, Grizzly, Moose, Fox, Fawn, Beaver, Panda (we love this one!), or Tuna. Though it might get a tad confusing in public.
Cosmo also has some fabulous punny name ideas, including Jimmy Chew, Arf Vader, Bark Obama, Chew Barka, Furby, Bark Ruffalo, Mutt Damon, Mary Puppins, Sarah Jessica Barker, Harry Pawter, and Charles Barkley. We may or may not have laughed way harder at Mutt Damon and Harry Pawter than we’d care to admit (and yet here we are, wiping drops of coffee from our screens).
Some of the most popular names for boy cats, according to Supakit, include Loki, Leo, Charlie, Milo, Simba, Jasper, Max, Merlin, Oscar, and Gus. While the most popular girl cat names this year are Luna, Nala, Coco, Bella, Lily, Lola, Willow, Daisy, Molly, and Mia. Note the sizeable overlap between the top dog and cat names! The two species have quite a bit in common, it turns out…
Does anyone else feel like a lot of these weren't creative or something?
Not creative al all to be honest. A lot of them very much lacked creativity!
Load More Replies...My pets are Dallas Maximus (pitbull), Bruno Maddogg (dachshund), Maverick Biggus Dickus (Norwegian Forest Cat), Frederick Von Fred (tree frog), Monsieur Fattest Bastard & Madame Vee (green anoles), and Sir Fluffle Bagheera Cottontop, Esq (leopard gecko). All have the last name Jackson, I gave them mine cause I have absolutely no idea who all the fathers are!
After reading this list, I feel downright pedestrian with my pets' names: Kohl, Stilgar, and Preacher, and my Rainbow Bridge beloveds Ember, Wintressia, and Kazarothien James-Joseph Skandranon Rashkae Sheean III XD
I'm hoping the last one is just Kaz for short, except when they're in trouble and being scolded 😊
Load More Replies...I have 5 chickens... Noodle Soup Goujon Chips Tinkerbell Rosie. My daughter named the last two, we (me and husband) thought we were funny with the first three
I named my black lab Bark Vader and my boxer mix Bilbo Baggins. I named him Bilbo because being adopted is like going on an adventure.
I want to know if the photos are of the ACTUAL dogs or just a load of stock photos. People are commenting that the name suits the dog, but it may not be the actual dog. I'm leaning towards stock photos, because why would the insurance company have the photos (and give them to BP)?
A few dogs my family has owned, whose names were picked by their breeder: Jack Daniels; Chivas Regal (we nicknamed him Dillon); Sparky Anderson.
I once adopted an undersized very friendly pug from a rescue organization. The kind lady who fostered her said “This little lady is as cute as a bug in a rug.” So I named her Miss Ladybug. She was a therapy dog and we visited a nursing home once a week, and the residents loved her. Once a visitor told me that was the stupidest dog name he ever heard. I just smiled.
My lurcher is Ozzy Pawsbourne ( Prince of Barkness) just gone year old
When I was a kid we were trying to name our (third) blue cattledog. I came up with Anzac (Zac for sure) because I thought he was a little digger. Guess Dad liked it cos that's what the dog was named from then on. Once I owned my own dogs, my first two were Samson and Delilah (chihuaha/Silky terrier cross), Ringo (named before I got him) not after the beatle, but because he had a spot on his ring (mini-foxy/maltese/shitzu). And I've got another mini foxy/maltese/shitzu cross called Missy, I tell people it's short for Mischief (but it's really short for Missile). In hindsight I should have called my latest dog Rocky (short for Rocket) instead of Pippin.
Apart from The World Famous Scrotty Dog (kelb al sahara), ours were grown up when we got them, so came with names. However Henry (top of the range greyhound) did get called Biggus Doggus
Most of these sound like that TikTok thing where the last thing you ate is what your dogs name is
i renamed my friends cat prince merv the third esquire johnson, it was just prince before but hes a total merv
And here I am on the sofa with Sir Bean McFrecklebottom. We call him Mr. Bean for short

My cat is named Magic Fuzzypaws; she's a black long-haired cat with the longest fluffy hairs sticking out between her toes. In the past I've had Jenny Anydot; Morgoth, Galadriel, Arwen, Tinuvael (Tolkien, not sure of the spelling), Chiana, Bianca; Max and Silver; Sugar and Spice; Aramis, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Pixie, Tigra and Sheridan.
Taco Steve is a great name. Our cats are Envy Brie and Roxy Mae. We're huge Scott Pilgrim fans. First names are after characters, and middle names are after the actresses that played those characters in the movie. Nothing super creative or out there, but I like them.
I have a cat named Professor Teddy Pretzels, one named McCoy, and one named Artemis. I also have a dog named Truffle and another named Detective Beelzebub Popcorn.
My cat is called Watson, because I really love Sherlock Holmes. He loves to solve puzzles with me. One day a cat I never saw before started walk in our house to take it over. Watson hated her, so I knew it was Meowriaty. She did that for some days and was never to be seen again after she stayed overnight one time. I have to admit, Meowriarty was so affectionate that she was very easy to like. She walked up to me a few times to demand to sleep like a baby in my arms after excessively rubbing her face against mine for some minutes. Watson must have seen her as a really powerful villain, I guess.
I used to work at a kennel/doggie daycare. Allow me to share some of my favorite names... Keychain, Sharpie, Clorox, Big Mama, Sexy, Shitstain, Pooper, Butt-Butt, Rolex, Hyundai, A*****e, Charizard, Macho Man Randy Savage, Kash Money, Naruto, White Claw, Toothpaste, and my favorite, a pair of rottweilers named Barack and Michelle
My cat: Freddie Perrrcury. Previous cat: Queen Maya the Apocalypticat. The strays I feed in my backyard: Lit'l Chonk, Billy, Mr. Tux, Nimby, Sid Vicious, Professor Edmonton, Oreo Floofynutter Esq. Raccoons I can identify: Scruffy, Grizzelda, Bruno, Waldo. Skunks: Snowy (hooded skunk), Siouxsie Skunk. I post vids of them on my tiktok
