I know, right? Some of these cakes were ridiculously ambitious, and can only be executed properly by someone who has incredible decorating skills. If your picture was made by someone else, don't expect the local bakery to be able to replicate it for a fraction of the price.

I totally agree. I would add that bakers should be honest about their abilities. Not everyone can pull off those examples. I would be happy to make a cake for a friend's wedding, to maybe help with expenses, but I would NEVER promise something that would match a photo of a $3K cake. Bakeries shouldn't promise what they know they can't achieve. Some of these were great attempts. Some were ridiculous.

Was coming down to say; moral of the story for many of these, don't expect Pinterest-worthy cakes from your local baker, unless you're willing to fork over major money.

Plus some of these examples were like Chinese whispers or a game of Pictionary without showing the picture of what you really wanted. Just a verbal description to the baker. Saying I’d like something “similar to this” when ordering giant good enough. How’s the baker to know the elements you liked of the original concept?!

I disagree. If you are a professional business and someone comes to you with a request you don't have the skill to execute, you should decline. Then again, it's the customers who are to blame when it comes down to it for not doing their due diligence. If the baker doesn't have a portfolio of doing what you request, then it's on you for hiring them.
