The 50 states of the U.S.A can often get Europeans confused. Is there really that much difference between Mississippi and Alabama? Washington and Oregon? To outsiders not so much, but of course locals will definitely let you know! To get more clarification on how to distinguish between them, one Redditor asked Americans what are the things everyone should know about each state. It's hard to say if this person got what they were asking for, but the result is definitely amusing.

While some users offered tactful descriptions about unique nature of their states and shared important historical facts, others were a lot more candid. Americans dispelled absurd myths, showed what makes them proud and didn't hesitate to point fingers at their own flaws with hilarious examples. Proving once again that they know how to laugh at themselves. Scroll down to see for yourself!

When I was young, I had a boyfriend from Minnesota (I was a Californian). Anyway, he done me wrong and my pithy Aunt said I should tell him to go home and jump into one of his ten thousand lakes. Still get a laugh.

How can people here tell when someone is down-voting? I've seen a couple of other comments about downvoting before, and don't get it.

I love when people question me about living in New York. Usually its' "Are you really?" "How can you live in NYC?" "Is it true that New Yorkers are......" Once in awhile, and only with all due respect, will I tell someone that we have cows and orchards here.

I live in Texas, and I get this sentiment. There are things about Texas and Texans that I don't like - but that's everywhere, man. No place is perfect. There are some really gorgeous areas in Texas, like Big Bend National Park. Austin (where I live) is a cool place to visit, lots of great food, art, and pretty areas like the Greenbelt. Don't judge us all by the stereotypes!

I'm Texan. I've yet to hear anyone say Murican or Murica. I'm not republican, far from racist or any of the other stereotypical lumping labels that, unfortunately, some people seem to like to tag others with. I treat people on an individual basis. I'm liberal on some matters and conservative on others and middle road on many. And even if I don't agree with the philosophies of some others there are still opportunities to learn from them.

A full moon rising through the trees, mirrored in the waters of the bayou with only the lazy motion of a passing gator disturbing the onyx black depths. Zydeco drifting through the air, carried on the heavy aroma of boiling crawfish and the echo of Cajun laughter. It's too much for an entry, but this is Louisiana in this girl's heart.

Ohio has the county of Delaware, with a lovely county seat by the same name and a well-respected liberal arts college. I've known many Ohioans who didn't know Delaware was a state before we established this county! :) The county is named after the Delaware tribe who lived in Ohio.

Delaware is the 2nd smallest state (after RI) but the first state to sign the constitution. I went to elementary-middle school there -it was a beautiful childhood... lots of gardens and wooded parks. Almost every kid had a pony then too, so we rode around in packs and had a wonderful time. Great memories

I love this. After moving out of Oregon, I came to realize how good we were at it. I totally applaud Oregon for this. We used to say we had the fattest and happiest bums and the cleanest parks in Portland. All they had to do is sit around and wait until we were done partying in the parks and they would pick up the left bottles and cans. It was and I am hoping still is a harmonious companionship. Two Thumbs Up! It's great to be from Oregon and all the people that live there now... Great Job!! P.S. My friends and I always picked up after ourselves. :) :)

Actually, home is pretty nice, but when I want to see/do something in NYC, it's not that far or arduous to do it. Plus, New Haven is like a mini NYC. The shoreline is wonderful, like a mini MA or even ME, but without the insane cold & snow. I mean, WTF? The worst part is getting from point A to point B because the infrastructure has such an old history. Think colonial, literally.

Fun fact: WV has a lot of inbred stereotypes but there are at least a half dozen other states with much higher inbreeding rates. PA being one of them. My old hometown(a small village) literally almost every single person was related. And it never stopped the breeding. My mum, who grew up 2 hours from my father, has a great uncle or cousin in common. My parents are like 4-5 generations apart in the relatives but it's still there. It's always fun shocking people that inbreeding is waaay more prevelant in so many places in the US people don't think about.

Sadly to say, I have to agree. I just went to Boston for my Grandma's funeral. You are very expensive. As beautiful and historical as Boston is, I have to say, my friend, it is very hard to drive in and/or around Boston and the interchanges on the freeways are super hard. The roads do add the the trauma. On a happy note, the park was wonderful and the city very enlightening and gorgeous and the people were surprisingly VERY considerate, Very knowledgeable about your history, helpful, and nice. I had a great experience.

Mamas in pyjamas dropping off the kids at school and doing a quick bit of shopping is a bit of a thing in the UK. Our supermarkets try banning them. Personally, I can't get too worked up about clothing that covers more of your body than a lot of supposedly acceptable day wear. Like those jeans that were mainly just holes (Bored Panda feature about Epic Clothing Fails) and the Brown Tie-dyed skirt.

Yeah, living there, I know how you can drive for miles and miles on a highway without seeing a single goddamn person...

I'm moving to Germany. I had literally just forgotten about that monster. though, honestly, I doubt that's what was meant.

Wyoming: Remembered by me above all others for summertime beauty when i drove through. Those mountains must be impassable in winter, but there's other places to live.

Dear South Dakota, we in Minnesota are aware of this record. It is legendary. We are jealous. But we will eventually beat you! Just wait and see!

Absolute DITTO. Really great people. They don't call it the volunteer state for nothing. I gotta say, that caption for Tennessee sucks. Big time. Nashville is awesome. The countryside is awesome. lots of folks are partial to Memphis and Graceland. The weather is about as nice as you can get and still have 4-actual seasons. And sure UT is huge, and also on the eastern edge, far from most of the state. Smokey mountains are pretty great.

I think I would have mentioned that we have a higher tree to person ratio than the rest of the US. Or the fact that an unusual number of musicians and celebrities leave here to get famous.
