Having read the title, you’re probably wondering: “What’s so funny about street names?” And you are right. Most of the time, it’s all pretty straightforward. A street name is just a part of your address, and they are usually named after some important historical figure or geographical location, or occasionally also after an event, like independence or the announcement of the first republic.
But every now and then things get weird and we get some really funny addresses. Obviously, some misunderstandings happen because of the “lost in translation” phenomenon. What seems to be a perfectly serious, maybe even boring street name in the native language of the place might sound hilarious to a foreigner. But that’s just one part of the story.
As often as not, you will find a place in your own country that sounds extremely funny. And that’s true not only of streets. You can come across road names, river names, and sometimes entire villages and towns that will make you chuckle uncontrollably.
What I want to know, and you are probably asking yourself this question too, is whether the naming authorities really don’t see the humor of the situation or if they select funny names for streets on purpose because we all need some fun in life.
So if you had to come up with funny names for streets in your city, what names would you choose? Have you ever come across funny or cool street names while traveling? Share them in the comments and enjoy the collection we have compiled for you.

In Laconia, New Hampshire (US), there's a street named "Electric Avenue." It's a dead end, so next to the street sign is a sign that reads "no outlet."
There's a town in PA named Intercourse. And another town named West Middlesex.
