50 Times People Didn’t Give A Heck About OSHA Safety Regulations And Did What They Had To Do, As Shared On This Facebook Group
If you’re not new to Bored Panda, you probably know what big fans we all are here of OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration)-related content.
Numerous times we've covered the legendary subreddit OSHA which has set out on a mission to educate people about staying safe at work by showing what incidents lurk around the corner. Check it out here, here and here!
Now, this entertaining Facebook group titled “Looks Like An OSHA Violation But Ok” is a great addition to the educational efforts to remind people that staying safe at work should be the utmost priority!
Home to 492.1K members, the group describes itself as “a place to share images and stories of the most egregious OSHA violations, and other maybe-not-the-best-idea situations.” Scroll down through the batch of examples below!

I think I read somewhere that this is a type of "hazing" to new guys- tbh I'm more concerned that he's that close to it without protective eyewear.
This is an old one similar to asking the new guy to go get a long stand or a sky hook
Be careful with the sky hook. In the industrial world of Canada there is a famous story of a foreman telling a new guy get a sky hook here by tomorrow or you're fired. Next day over the trees comes a giant helicopter mounted crane. The foreman screams over the noise what is that. New guy says it's a sky hook. My dad runs the company. He'd like you to sign this and handed him a bill for 20000 for the hour. Rumor has it they had to pay out and the foreman got fired.
Load More Replies...Possibly a staged photo and they were all having a laugh
Load More Replies...I used to do indoor air quality testing and on the first day we always had the new guy take the sample with a trash bag, tie it like a balloon and have them walk into the office saying they brought the sample. (you take the air sample with a small mechanical device) Everyone always had a good laugh.
In my Teens I worked in a popular holiday camp in Demi Pension ( bed, breakfast and evening meal) as most of us were new and allocated various jobs we hadn't done before one of the kitchen porters was sent to storage to get two packets of chicken lips for that evenings dinner. He was gone for hours, as the guys in the freezers made him open every box looking for them :D
No one cares about safety regulations in the construction industry, the machoism and ignorance is horrifying. We have witnessed it firsthand throughout many Reno’s and also in our own neighbourhood. An elderly neighbour of ours passed away from Silicosis- he had a large painting company. Unfortunately it isn’t profitable to care about the well-being of others, ( he was an ignorant, callous awful little man). All that mattered was how much could be extricated from others and how much money could be made.
You missed "Who?", "When?" and "Where?". There, fixed it for ya.
Load More Replies...This is actually very clever. Not safe, but clever... If it worked they probably saved draining the pool.
I’m guessing it’s a battery powered scissor lift.
Load More Replies...Those lifts are super heavy, how in the hell did they find something that will hold it up? Btw, the tipping over thing isn’t anymore of a hazard in this situation than on solid ground. That pothole in a parking lot is just annoying in a car. It’s a death trap in one of those lifts.
When you have an ample supply of ratchet straps but don’t have an extra $250 for the bigger truck.
Anyone going to that extreme should have a grandmother perched on top, like in the Beverly Hillbillies.
Heard it as soon as I saw the pic. Come and listen to my story about a man named Jed A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed, And then one day he was shootin at some food, And up through the ground come a bubblin crude.
Load More Replies...Not to be a weenie, but I hope this person was stopped and severely ticketed. In my home state this last year multiple deaths happened on the highway from poorly secured loads falling off and hitting vehicles.
I understand that truck rentals can be expensive and making two trips doubles your mileage costs, but it will still be cheaper than your legal defense when you accidentally kill someone.
This will make for a nice, fat ticket.... I mean do whatever you want by all means but this is definitely hazardous to other people on the road. A cardboard came flying into the windshield of my chiropractor while he was driving on the interstate, went through the glass, hit him head and caused him severe damage - cracked skull, massive bleed, brain injury etc. and left him severely disabled. Please be careful everyone.
Bored Panda reached out to Brook See, the creator of the “Looks Like An OSHA Violation But Ok” Facebook group, to find out more about this awesome community. Boasting a whopping 492.0K members, the group started as a tag group! Brook recounted: “I saw an image posted one day and thought tagging it ‘looks like an OSHA violation but ok’ would have been funny, and fully assumed a group already existed. When I discovered it didn't, I created it.”
The creator of the group knew right away it was going to be big, but he said he had NO idea how big it would actually get! “And how fast. At one point, we were getting a thousand post submissions a DAY,” Brook told us.
That's the point. no one is going to deal with it. It will die a slow painful death on its own

Technically, it's perfectly safe. Unless the glass breaks. Or the ladder breaks. Or he slips. Or...
honestly, as long as the glass and the ladder don't break, and he doesn't somehow slip, this is actually pretty stable. his physics is on point. ijs...
When it comes to the content that gets shared on the “Looks Like An OSHA Violation But Ok” group, Brook explained that it’s “curated based on whether or not it relates in any way to any trade, and showing something dangerous, stupid, etc.” Beware that violence and gore are strictly forbidden.
Moreover, the group doesn't allow cross posting or advertising of any kind. “I think the course duration and moderating helped the group's popularity quite a bit, as it had a more curated feel than some of the wilder groups out there,” Brook said.

Don't worry, those are no longer sensitive.
Load More Replies...I'm assuming (hoping) this is a mud bath, I've been to one in Turkey and the mud does look very similar to concrete (and is fantastic for your skin)
I think you're right! It looks to me like the pit is made out of concrete, filled with mud. Look, it even has a little ladder there. I don't know anything about construction, but would workers ever need to fill a concrete pit with concrete like how it looks?
Load More Replies...They are being dehydrated at an astonishing rate, and the longer they stay the worse it will be.
It's mud. No reason for a bunch of ppl to be shirtless and chest deep in a pool of concrete.
U can touch wet concrete. I drive a mixer and I always get some concrete on me when I clean my truck but yeah it dries out your skin SUPER bad
I’m starting to wonder if this is actually a restorative mud bath. Some countries have incredibly mineral rich earth that that many people bathe in for its restorative properties. I highly highly doubt a bunch of men are casually bathing in caustic quick lime/cement…
Brook also said that lately, no posts are being approved, or very few and far between. “With a group that size, EVERY post generates a ton of moderating, as people will argue about literally ANYTHING. It's just so much work to keep up with everything, so the group has been semi dormant for a while now.” Not entirely, Brook added, but “Looks Like An OSHA Violation But Ok” is no longer a 24/7 job like it was for some time.
“The audience is a little bit of everybody, but definitely attracts members of any trade,” Brook said when asked about the members of the group. “Due to the nature of the content, I believe this also added to the group's popularity, as much of the content is relevant and/or approachable by a wide audience,” he concluded.
ummm... physics? weight and balance? center of gravity? boss? death? new guy quitting? lawsuits? er? wheelchair? all of the above?

Please continue not having incidents in this area, thank you.

Not so unusual - although the lock is a bit too much. But nearly every workplace I know has a package of band aids and basic first aid supplies somewhere near the "official" first aid kit - because if you take something out there, it is officially a workplace injury, it has to be documented, and noone likes to fill out a form because he cut himself on paper or got caught on a nail.
I have this First Aid Kit, and that plastic can very, VERY easily be broken. This lock is doing nothing.
Might be preventing theft. Workplace can have things "dissappear" and "run out" of bandages for example.
If they have an actual functioning smoke alarm elsewhere, I think this is pretty darn nifty!

Load More Replies...Unless this is in a workplace….. it’s not an OSHA issue. No matter where it is, if there are also functional smoke detectors, it’s just a good idea. :)
“While perhaps one can say they are 'lucky' nothing has happened, that sort of behavior - the minor breaches - can lead to much bigger ones, or be indicative of general malaise or slipshod behavior, which can mount up and eventually cause huge problems,” Dr. Audrey Tang, a chartered psychologist, media spokesperson and author of multiple books, including "Be A Great Manager Now", "The Leader's Guide to Mindfulness," and "The Leader's Guide to Resilience,” told Bored Panda in a previous interview.
Dr. Tang explained that “with regards to the impact on employees - we only have a finite amount of energy we can devote to productive work within a day.”
She continued: “We know when we are ill, for example, that ability to focus diminishes and performance suffers - if a workplace is making someone sick, you have already reduced productivity (not to mention breached the trust of the employee), but also, even if an employee is worried about something they have noticed that is awry, their own mind will be distracted and in turn affect performance.”

Load More Replies...This picture was probably taken after it was shut off and starting to cool down. You can see how much area is missing it's heat resistant black paint, the grayish area vs the black, which would have been caused by reaching red hot tempatures. Likely >1200°. The flakes are likely areas that reached high enough tempature to cause scaling that wasn't removed during the metal's manufacturing.

Dr. Tang explained that the research into wellbeing at work previously looked more at the "hygiene factors” because they affected the satisfaction of employees if they weren't present (“a bit like if one didn't wash their hands, they could become ill”). “These include things like working conditions, behavior of immediate management, and the physical workspace.”
“However, more recently, people’s attention and the body of research have shifted more towards the organizational health speaks of 'psychological safety' as another element of health - at least emotional and mental health(!) - in the workplace.”
If a worker doesn't feel psychologically safe, “i.e. they don't feel heard, or perhaps they are criticized all the time, perhaps they don't feel they can ask if they need support,” it can be hugely detrimental to motivation, retention and performance. It also has a tremendous negative impact on the employee's mental and emotional wellbeing.
... and then the polka-dot rocking horse I was standing on . . . Wait . .What?
The rocking giraffe actually makes a lot of sense, as the curved part fits between two rungs of the ladder. It will not rock but is firm. A normal chair would not have worked at all, as you cannot fit 4 spindly legs safely onto a ladder.

This reminds me of the time the propane got too cold for a torch to light (supposedly it froze?) at the ski hill i worked at. Temporary wiring of new office lights, and this was done by a person who just renewed his electrical license.
Renewed it on his own laptop perhaps, rather than with an official organisation???
No, we used to do stuff like this just to freak people out. There are little clamps inside the outlets that grab the blades on a cord. They grab solid wire just as well. Most likely someone needed some extra light for a bit and it’s a chance to test the lights before everything is closed up.

There's one out on 67 that's Boomland, too. Buddy of mine from KS was passing through and thought that was the name of the town. "Well, it WILL be if the place ever catches fire." EDIT; Hot damn. Same company, different locations. Small world.

That's "speed tape" and perfectly normal: https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/2022/10/05/plane-duct-tape-speed-tape/
Okay but let’s pretend it’s duct tape, cuz that fixes anything
Load More Replies...It's actually like super thin aluminum with a sticky side. 100% FAA approved on small things. Obviously, major repairs would not be fixed with this but if its something small that doesn't effect the airworthiness- this is a great short term solution to get the plane in the air. Grounded planes make 0 bank!
In this case, it's probably there to aerodynamically seal the cowling.
Load More Replies...Dear passengers, this is your captain speaking, we have a crack in the engine but don't worry, we've fixed it with some duct tape and it should be fine for our 12-hour journey over the ocean
Me as a passenger- whew! As long as they used brand name duct tape and not the store brand.
Load More Replies...Let's be honest, how many things have we all fixed with duct tape ? Soooo many things. On a side note this is actually a tape specifically designed for aeroplanes (not nearly as much fun as duct tape roulette)
That is a true statement...it's aluminized tape to temporarily hold sheet metal in place. I never personally had it on any of the aircraft I crewed though. But then again, all of my aircraft could fly faster than Mach 1. Airlines fly sub-sonic.
The meter will break off the wall first, man will face splat against the wall then slide to the ground using his face as a brake.

It's a tig weld it looks like. It's just doing that because there isn't enough gas. It's very dangerous and definitely NOT OSHA approved
Based on the spatter, deposited Flux and bead size I'd have guessed fcaw (stick) welder running far too high amperage. Way over melted here because it was set up to weld thick plate. Tig doesn't leave the Flux or spatter normally.
Load More Replies...I've seen this before welding off a little generator. It'll strike an arc then pop the breaker. So you flip the switch start it again. You get one tack every time. Build it up like this. Note this is not advice but explanation if how it happens. Do not do this

I'm honestly not seeing much wrong with this unless I'm really missing something. To get to a higher part of your roof you sometimes have to put your ladder on the lower roof to get up there, and having another person spotting the bottom is even better. Sooo yeah, looks ok to me
