Adulthood can make even the most ordinary situations feel unnecessarily complicated. Between work, relationships, expectations, awkward conversations, and the occasional existential crisis, there is plenty of material to laugh at, especially when things do not go quite as planned. That is the territory Riley Fanning explores through “Riley Doodles Sometimes,” a collection of loose, expressive doodles and single-panel cartoons built around the strange little moments of everyday life.

The drawings themselves are just as distinctive as the jokes. Riley’s characters often have exaggerated proportions, elongated limbs, and awkward expressions, while her handwritten captions give each scene an almost spontaneous quality. Relatable honesty also runs through many of the doodles. Self-doubt, uncertainty about the future, relationships, money, work, and the pressure to have everything figured out appear regularly, but rarely without a dose of absurdity. One moment might feel strangely encouraging, while the next takes a familiar worry and pushes it just far enough to make it ridiculous.

A doodle of a person riding a horse with text Giddy up Sally, take me to a place with reasonable rent, air conditioning and maybe even a window! It represents relatable adult problems.
