When my grandson was about 4 he pointed out a dinosaur in a book and correctly identified it. Someone asked him how he was sure it wasn't a similar dinosaur. He replied "Well LOOK at it!"

That must have been a beautifully, wonderful moment.

My first husband was (probably still is) a brilliant person who had delayed speech. He would point, making noises, and everyone would be at his beck and call figuring out what he wanted. One day his exasperated mother snapped at him, and he very calmly asked her to get something in a complete, grammatically correct sentence. Little sh!t.

My nephew was the same. Completely silent until age 4 and then started speaking in complete sentences.

As a neurodivergent child, I wasn't much of a talker but I knew every bone and organ in the human body and carried around this huge book with a model skeleton in it like a Bible. Somehow my interests completely swapped because I can't look at the sight of blood or any other bodily fluids without wanting to violently vomit.
