Reflecting on what inspired them to start the series, the artist shared, “I started Cold Bagel Comics as a way to make sense of the random, weird thoughts that pop into my head. I wanted to create something that felt like the conversations you have with yourself at 3 AM—when things get a little surreal and a lot funny. The style? Well, that just sort of happened; it's a mix of my love for simplicity and a nod to all the oddball things I see in the world.”

The process behind creating the bizarre characters and dark humor featured in Cold Bagel Comics is notably spontaneous. The artist explained, “It’s pretty spontaneous, honestly. I usually start with a random phrase or an image that pops into my mind. From there, I just let it evolve. I’m a big fan of absurdity and dark humor because they’re both ways to poke fun at the strange stuff we all deal with, even if it's just in our heads. The characters kind of write themselves once the idea starts rolling.”

Balancing unsettling and humorous elements is key to the comics' unique appeal. The artist noted, “It's all about timing and delivery. I like to take something that's almost too weird or uncomfortable and just pull back a bit, so it's still funny but also makes you go, ‘Wait, what?’ The trick is to not overthink it—if it makes me laugh and cringe a little, then it’s good to go.”

Maintaining regular updates for Cold Bagel Comics can be a challenge, as life often gets in the way. Reflecting on the difficulties, the artist said, “Life is busy, man. Sometimes, it's just hard to find the time to sit down and draw, especially when you’re juggling a million other things. But I try to remind myself that this is supposed to be fun, not a chore. It’s okay to have breaks; I’d rather post something good occasionally than something half-hearted all the time.”

Sharing their work on Instagram has been both a boon and a challenge for the artist. They observed, “Instagram is great because it’s instant feedback—you know right away if people are digging it or not. It’s also fun to see how different people interpret the comics in their own way. The downside? Algorithms, man. They’re always changing, so sometimes it feels like yelling into a void. But at the end of the day, it’s about connecting with those who get it, even if it's just a handful of people.”
