Interview With ArtistHow about starting the weekend with fun and laughter? If you're in, we have something special prepared for you! StrangeTrek is back on Bored Panda and this time with even more humorous and strangely relatable comics.
StrangeTrek or Roby Poche is an artist from Austin, Texas who started drawing comics in 2020 and couldn't seem to stop. And we love that, of course. His illustrations are full of pop culture intertexts, unexpected endings, and a touch of darkness. We hope that they are just what you needed to forget about all your worries and jump into the weekend in a good mood.

Roby Poche started drawing comics in July 2020, when hell broke loose. He had always wanted to create comics and Covid left him with plenty of time to try it out. Since then, his illustrations have gotten more and more attention and appreciation.
We are happy when we help artists and their audience find each other. After the first article featuring StrangeTrek's comics came out, Roby noticed the growth of his followers. But, according to the artist, the biggest change was internal. Roby shared with Bored Panda that having an article about his comics gave him a huge confidence boost and helped him keep making comics.
Right now, Roby finds it difficult to find the time to make new comics. Even though most of the illustrations are four panels, they take quite some time to make, according to the artist. However, Roby enjoys looking back at the comics he has made and reading all the nice comments from people who enjoy his works. That is very rewarding for the artist.
Like most artists, Roby Poche has those days when new ideas for his comics seem to be hiding from him. However, he has a method to deal with this. "It is important to just start drawing a new comic. I can always take a break and look back and critique it. You can never critique a blank page."
Looking at illustrations created by other artists might also be a good way to get some inspiration. When asked about his favorite cartoonist, Roby replied that there are too many to name, but he finds the art of False Knees amazing and hilarious.
Being a self-taught comic artist, StrangeTrek encourages others who want to try drawing comics to just start and not wait for anything. "I have wanted to make comics my whole life, but it seemed like a really hard thing to start. You have to have an art and comedy, understand pacing, a theme, and make something original. It seems like a lot, but it gets easier once you just start making something."
If you love StrangeTrek comics so much you want to own a print of one, two, or more artworks, you can purchase them on Etsy. Check out other funny illustrations on the artist's socials. They are listed above, or you can find them here.
