Millennials are choosing pets over kids for a ton of reasons, from cost (an average of $3085 a year to raise a dog, $12-14,000 for a child) to freedom, basic companionship and not having to wipe their butts.
While not everyone thinks that this is a good thing and sure, the two things are so vastly different that the comparison is a stretch. But after a busy day at a job that doesn't offer the same security or benefits that your parents grew accustomed to, what would you prefer to come home to? A little fluffy bundle of joy who just wants to play and cuddle, or a demanding child that needs to be cooked for, cleaned after, homework and so on?
Obvious, when you think about it! We here at Bored Panda have compiled a hilarious list of all the memes millennials are sharing to show they prefer animal babies to human ones, just in case you need further convincing. Scroll down to check them out for yourself, and let us know what you think in the comments!

Same. And before anyone starts blaming parents for not controlling their children, sometimes they just can't. Take my little brothers for example. When someone picks up a bad habit from school that they think is cool, then have fun getting it out of them. Time outs, groundings, and spankings don't seem to work either. I'm only a teen, (which in our current society means very little anyhow) but from what I see, parenthood is hell. I will NEVER willingly have a kid.
That little quote on the side to remind you that we do not deserve dogs
We're so lucky to have the choice now! In my grandmother's time, women had children. Period.
I bought a townhouse with three bed room, me and my girl have four adopted cats. its the cats house, we live there just to feed them. :-)
I wouldn't mind if the human race dies out... We've been around long enough, we've messed up big time... Might as well leave
You'll change your mind when you're 25. You'll change your mind when you're 30. You'll change your mind when you're 35. You'll change your mind when your biological clock kicks in. Well I'm 41 and haven't still changed my mind, so back off!
The best baby at the baby shower... The only one everyone's gonna love more than their own babies
Kids drop and break stuff and do not sit still when asked to... Dogs pick up whatever you ask them to and sit still like good Bois and gals... Choose wisely
Why is this even a debate? Dogs and cats and hamsters and birds and literally EVERY ANIMAL is better than humans, any time
I kinda feel there's a discrimination against cats here. Or other pets for that matter! Cats are adorable too! (I'm a proud cat owner. Ok, roommate. FINE! Slave! I'm a cat slave! :D)
Not everyone was made to want children. Don't get me wrong - I love my nieces, nephews, and god-children... love spending time with them, and I love sending them home to their parents! I also love my dog. Don't tell the kids, but she is my favorite one. ;)
Team no kids for the win! I'll take my happy life with my husband and our 5 precious cats over one of those screeching , leaking, sticky , expensive "miracles" any day!
I took this picture of my dog. She was like "Oh hello hooman" *flips head back dramatically and poses* "I pose for you, you likey?" a-true-sna...276b0d.jpg
Millennial parents and Gen-X are suuuuuper jealous of millennials who aren’t parents. JEALOUS AF. That’s why they always make these bitter comments on threads like this. Baby boomers just don’t get it because they grew up not knowing that child rearing is a choice. It was just what everyone did. Parents are jealous of childfree people and they want everyone else to be as miserable as them. A 30 year old mom looks 42 and struggles to wrangle her ugly, sticky toddler. Then she sees a vibrant 35 year old woman who looks 28 smiling with her spouse and having fun relaxing and of course the mom is jealous. That’s why they can’t stand hearing about people who don’t want kids. I guarantee you Kjorn and all the downvoted miserable parents here are just jealous. I’ll enjoy looking good and traveling the world with my hot husband while you sit back and waste away with a bratty kid screaming in your ear. I have an actual life to live.
Where are the cats and/or kittens though? They're just as cute and rewarding!
Dogs are so much better than a screaming, crying, helpless baby. The world is way overpopulated.
The more 'developed' the country is, the lower the birthrate (compare Somalia to Japan). It has nothing to do with millenials, or pets.
Babies suck the youth from you, turning you into a shell... Dogs and cats will lie by you and snuggle, and maybe occasionally pee on something or chew something up. Much better than all the diapers and everything else.
Unfortunately the people who are choosing not to procreate are the ones responsible enough to raise decent human beings and the ones popping out 7 kids shouldn't have had any.
Oh come on! Everyone should live as they want to live. I love my daughter so much an I can understand why someone don't want children. But I would never have a pet instead... She gives me so much back and I love to take care of her and see her grow.
Every person has the right to decide if they want children, pets etc. You don't need to worry about what I think on the matter or comment even once.
I have zero inclination to try to "sell" anyone on having kids. In fact, I think sterilization should be more accessible And encouraged for people who know they don't want to be parents. Currently, it's difficult for younger men and women to have these procedures and I think it's irresponsible of doctors to create these barriers. What child benefits from an unwilling parent?
I'm glad my mom shares the same opinion on not having kids. Her support means a lot to me. One day I want to get couple of dogs from shelter and give them warm home.
I hope BP will not started the fire or make everything worse between parents and nonparents here with all these articles. I generally support those who choose not to have kids because they aware that they will have huge amount of stress that will potentially abuse or neglect the child if they have one. Same applied to pet owner. Maybe it's just my concern, but if we are getting influenced by all the defences by these parents and nonparents then I am worried it will affect our behavior toward kids and pet. They've done nothing wrong please don't blame it on them. Let's just support each other no matter what we choose.
Personally having to choose a pet over a child is, in my opinion, the best birth control in the world. The earth is dark, full of hate, lies and on the brink of destruction with overpopulation so yeah I will also stay with my pets as my babies. Also cheaper to maintain, even if the vet bills are higher than doctor bills.
Yes...YES....The plan is working Dog Brethren. The human population is culling itself through non-reproduction. Soon WE shall be the dominant species and THEY the pets! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
Kids are cool. Well, a few of them are cool. Ok very damn few of them are cool, but the very few are really cool!
For those with the attitude "everyone should have children": look up the childhood of Charles Manson, US serial killer. Also Edmund Kemper. And Keith Jesperson. Then we'll discuss why your opinion is misguided, at best.
It's good there's so many people who don't want kids. The earth is too overpopulated as it is.
Yes would love 2 c more love 4 cats here but thankfully there is in the comments section! I have 9 & love them & they have brought me so much joy & they sense when ur sick or have a bad day, etc... I have always known I didn't want kids & was actually "spayed" in my mid 20's - best thing I ever did! I have never regretted that nor adopting my precious fur babies! I have had 2 deal w/ sooo many ppl telling me I "would change my mind & regret it". So crazy they were
I love and adore dogs passionately. I love all animals with a passion, but dogs are my favourite! However, I must say that treating dogs as human children is actually bad for them; according to someone who actually lived in the world of animal care and vets, babying dogs and treating them like human children is bad for them. They may be better than humans, but they are not humans and need to be respected and treated as such in order to be healthy and happy. Of course, love is also necessary for dogs and they can still be your best friend and your soulmate, but babying them like children is bad for them…
I hate this psychology. Not because I love kids and don't love pets, if anything, it's the other way round(at 3 pets and 0 kids currently :P) but it's BECAUSE I love pets that I recognize they're not my kids - they're adults of a different species that have needs different from that of a human baby. Just because something will forever stay small enough for you to pick up and cuddle doesn't make it your toy to dress up and treat like 'aw oh my poor little sweet baby' forever, that's just cruel. Now don't get me wrong, I have seen people calling their pets babies for whom it was just a cute name and they still made sure their pets got everything they needed as animals, but way, way more often have I seen people treating their 'furry babies' like dolls they can forever dress up, cuddle, feed fancy and expect they'll be jumping happy. And then ooo shocker your 'furry baby' bites someone, doesn't know how to behave in general and then dies young because of wrong diet and lack of exercise.
Hi guys, I have a question and welcome on a healthy debate... One day we will all be old and by that time how do we maintain our daily life if we did not have children? Most children will left us when they have their own family, but with them there will be someone we can rely on if anything happened to us (lets just assume parenting done right), but if we don't have, how do we do it? I'm not bashing your preference, I wanna know you guys opinion on this for better understanding : )
Pet-people and People-people, two different species. I´m glad there is always someone loving a dog, a cat, etc.
I have 4 kids myself and I agree that it's like herding cats at times! However, my husband and I had serious discussions about how we wanted to parent and why we wanted to do things a certain way and what our goals were for our kids (basically become the best versions of themselves). So when we had 4 kids in 5 years we already had a game plan. We had our "kid training program" laid out, in broad strokes anyway. The biggest problem today is that parents don't take time to train, and I mean TRAIN, their kids how to behave. When they're 1-2 years old, they are the worst because they don't know any better. But they are still smarter than those adorable doggos and can be trained to behave. As they continue to grow, that training can be built upon. One of our guiding principles has been to treat our kids like the unique people they are and always try to bring out the best in them.
