A good neighbor encompasses many qualities, but one of the most delightful ones is their ability to infuse everyday life with smiles and laughter.
So in an attempt to thank them for all the joy they bring to our communities, we at Bored Panda put together a set of pictures featuring people who could be nominated for the "Neighbor of the Year" award and their funny antics.
From putting up creative signs to sending unexpected gifts, these folks know how to create a warm sense of belonging, and if you do too, just try and be someone you'd want to live next to yourself!

If these pictures, for some reason, still don't inspire you to foster relationships with your members, consider the following: according to psychologist Rick Hanson, Ph.D., who is a Senior Fellow at UC Berkeley's Greater Good Science Center, when you are friendly to others, you get rewarded yourself.
"Being friendly feels confident and happy, with a positive take on other people, moving toward the world instead of backing away from it. And it encourages others to be less guarded or reactive with you, since you’re answering the ancient question from millions of years of evolution—friend or foe?—with an open hand and heart," Hanson explained.

To warm up your brain’s circuits of friendliness, the psychologist suggests trying one or more of these:
- Recall being with someone who cares about you;
- Remember when someone was friendly to you;
- Bring to mind a time when you were friendly to someone;
- Get a sense of the posture, movements, gestures, and facial expressions of a person you know who is naturally friendly;
- Relax your body into a feeling of friendliness: leaning forward a little, rather than back; softening and opening your chest, face, and eyes; breathing goodwill in and out.

You don't need to worry about something grandiose. Often you can just give a smile, handshake, or nod, and that’s plenty.
"Stretch yourself, but stay within the range of whatever is authentic," Hanson said. "Remember that friendliness is not agreement or approval; it does not mean you have given up on whatever your stances may be in the relationship. Friendliness does not equal friendship; in truth, most relationships are with friendly acquaintances."

When Your Neighbors Have The Right Idea
It's in everyone's best interest. “Communities work better (students perform better, crime rates are lower, kids are safer, people live longer) when neighbors know one another better,” Robert Putnam, Harvard University Professor and author of Bowling Alone said.

This Sign Recently Appeared In My Neighborhood
My cat was an outside cat when she adopted me. She's used to roaming over 5 or more acres and I live in a 5th wheel trailer. Now how am I supposed to keep her inside of that for the rest of her life?
Load More Replies...I wonder I neighbours/drivers would get the humour if I put a similar sign but replacing cats by kids 😈
Some readers seem to have even taken this one seriously, so I can but imagine.
Load More Replies...I had an "indoor/outdoor" cat that I shared with my neighbor. He was spoiled rotten at both houses. Unfortunately, he was inside their house when it burned down. He did not make it out. Now I live by a highway in a city. My cats stay indoors. I will never allow a cat outside (not on a leash) again. (The area near where I work has many outdoor and feral cats. Too many àşśholes use them for target practice. Makes me physically ill. Nobody can do anything about it, they've tried.)
A friend of mine had a cat for a couple of years before he started letting it out. Three months later he watched it die at the vet's after being hit by a car. All you "my cat loves being outside" people can make your own choices, but I hope you're aware there may be consequences. (I give you a pass if you live on a farm.)
Load More Replies...Too funny! And dear Lulu please relax, it's only a joke. I doubt the cat smokes that much 😉 please lighten up cats need sunshine and fresh air just like you do.
I have one (of course he's orange) that I'm terrified will run out the door someday... because he'd go half a block and be too lost to get home. He definitely doesn't get a lot of time with the brain cell.
Load More Replies...Different areas have different problems. I had 3 acres to myself and thought thought my cats would be safe outside. My neighbors friend ran one over in her driveway. Now I live in the suburbs over run with coyotes that will eat your dog, never mind cats. Mine stay in all the time.
Keep them at home! Why let them out if they might get killed or seriously and painfully injured?
It's just a funny sign. Laugh if you find it funny and move on.
These comments! My neighbourhood facebook page has banned comments about cats (except for finding missing ones) because people can't be civil, despite warnings!
I think I need a sign like that in front of my house. The feral ones aren't very smart either!
That sign is not correct. Isn't an orange one brain cell.....(kidding)
Outdoor cats are the top killer of wild birds. We have enough cats on the planet but the birds are becoming extinct due to predators and pesticides.
Predators aren't the problem. Loss of habitat, loss of food sources is the problem.

Someone In My Neighborhood Totally Wins April Fools' Day
A little over a decade ago, we had a serious heat wave and I lived above a pizza place. There was a flat spot on the roof outside my bedroom window so when the heat was completely unbearable, I tossed pillows and blankets out there and slept on the roof. Surprised I never rolled off.
