30 Hilarious Cinephile Memes To Entertain You While You Debate On What To Watch Tonight
InterviewIt’s no secret that we’re huge film lovers. In fact, someone (hi, how are you?!) might have gone to the cinema twice and watched half a dozen films on Netflix in the last week alone. There’s nothing quite like the rush of excitement you feel in the pit of your stomach when you sit down and then watch the projector come to life as all the other lights go out. A close second is getting comfy on the couch with a big bowl of fresh popcorn.
The ‘Entry-Level Cinephile Meme Starterpack,’ aka 'Cinephile Memes,' Facebook page is dedicated to sharing cinephile memes. They’re funny. They’re relatable. They’re informative. And we’ve collected the crème de la crème to share with you, Pandas. Check out the best memes and remember to upvote your fave ones as you scroll down.
We got in touch with the founder of the Facebook page, and they told Bored Panda about the inspiration behind it and what they think the main problems with modern cinema are. same here! and it's dialogue btw(pls don't downvote)
Load More Replies...So true. I need my subtitles so much that even put them on when i see moovies in my own language.
I always use subtitles. I see a subtitle and I mentally translate it into my language before it disappears. It's training.
I'd rather have subtitles than need to go back to hear the line over and still not understand it.
I often use subtitles, sometimes it's because the audio mix is terrible and the dialogue is too quiet compared to explosions and gunfire. Sometimes it's because I'm eating popcorn or corn chips :D
Nothing wrong with that, especially when you're watching some US TV show recorded somewhere in texas
Nothing wrong with that, especially when you're watching some US TV show made somewhere in texas or where is a bit difficult to understand what they're saying
"I started the page right after graduating college," the founder of the meme page told Bored Panda via Facebook. "I’d just been gifted Photoshop and thought it’d be funny to just post memes related to whatever movie it was that I watched that day," they told us how everything started.
We were very interested to get the page curator's thoughts on modern cinema. Quite a few people have issues with films that come out these days.
"I think there’s a lot to dislike about modern films, but I don’t want to sound like a doomer and say there’s nothing out there that’s good," they gave Bored Panda a nuanced position. In their opinion, the two biggest problems with modern cinema are films that look unnatural and the idea of 'cringe.'
It is amazing how many movies use almost the exact same plot. top gun Mavirck and Star Wars a New Hope Iron man 3 and The Incredibles.
One of the problems with modern cinema "is the predominance of film which just makes things look unnatural," the curator of 'Cinephile Memes' said.
"Even my wife, who’s not a film buff, whenever we watch a movie, she sometimes says, 'That looked weird' and it always turned out that it’s been filmed in digital," they said.
Meanwhile, the other issue is the idea of 'cringe.' "I posted something recently on this aloof sense of irony. People are afraid to be genuine and it shows in film," the curator explained to Bored Panda.
"Everything, even if it’s a serious issue, or a serious thing in the film, always seems to be followed up in some way by humor, or a punchline, or something to offset the mood even just a little. People are afraid to feel now."
I don't watch movies with you anymore. Please be quiet so we can both find out the answer.
Load More Replies...Yup! That's me watching my beautiful Wife who's desperate learning Spanish (I speak fluent Spanish and she demands ME to sit next to her and watch some Mexican telenovelas or soap operas and translating what she doesn't understand and I better do it..or else!)
or finding mistakes in every pixel of every damn frame and pointing it out to me
I took my girlfriend to see Wakanda Forever and she was so confused when I waited behind 😂😂
End credit scenes need to stop now. They were a fun novelty but it’s every movie now.
The Marvel stingers are so ubiquitous that they are now boring. Unlike Tarantino who makes every minute including the stinger enjoyable. My opinion obv
Omg this is the funny bit, it's the really funny bit I promise, it's about to happen, no, not this bit, it's the next bit, I promise it's really funny...etc etc
I do this with TV series- it's the pilot, wait til they find their footing, give it just one more episode I swear...
Load More Replies...There are some people who I refuse to watch movies with! On the other hand, my husband has seen every movie ever made and will keep his mouth shut while I watch. Sometimes, I pause the movie so I can ask him questions. He will either clarify a point or tell me to wait a minute and the movie will explain it. I love him to bits!
I hate the feeling of being watched for my reaction. It takes me out of the movie watching experience bc I'm trying to figure out what's expected of me versus just losing myself in the moment.
Friend of mine suggested to watch Revenant. To this day I remind him he owes me 2 hours of my life.
The founder of 'Cinephile Memes' was very kind and shared a list of their top movies that they'd definitely recommend others watch. (It's something that we'll be looking into in our spare time, too!) Among their favorites are:
Hey, I'm all for businesses making a profit but somehow charging me $5 for a box of candy that I can literally buy at the dollar store seems a bit much. So, I'll stop bringing in my candy when they start charging a reasonable price!
Fun fact: If you go to ANY venue with concessions, it's going to cost a lot. The venue could care less about the price of a ticket. That's why radio stations, your jobs, etc usually have free tickets to give away. The concession profits are what pay for the rent, maintenance, the employee's paychecks, etc. So sporting events, movie theaters, concert venues, etc will always have pricey snacks and that's why they (usually) ask for people to NOT bring in outside foods and beverages.

Who thinks no one cares about 2001: A Space Odyssey? Someone quite young, I suppose.
no i7m almost 40 haha i can't get through it. I really tried so many times and I can't and never will.
Load More Replies...You know people don't use film anymore, right? Or does "70mm film" also mean something when talking about today's cameras?
Load More Replies...2001: A Space Odyssey, the best film in my opinion, but it is kinda boring if you're not into 'artsy' films
Load More Replies...Also Spake Zarathustra by Richard Strauss is the most kick@ss musical # of any movie.
it was an ok movie, but much better if you play Echoes, from Pink Floyd's album Meddle, towards the end. It's a trip

It’s exactly because we love movies and TV shows as a form of art and entertainment so much that we care about the status of the film industry. Now, don’t get us wrong—we all enjoy watching a cheesy dumb movie now and then. Not everything has to be an incredibly deep and artsy spectacle that forces us to reevaluate how we perceive life. Sometimes, we want to kick back with a mindless action flick or a stupid comedy after an exhausting day.
However, there seems to be a general downward trend in terms of quality. It’s tough to avoid becoming jaded after being let down time after time, after time. At some point, you start wondering if the industry’s been going downhill or if your taste has changed far too much for you to enjoy most of what’s being pumped out from Hollywood.
But one is a well crafted cinematic masterpiece and the other is « get out »
For some people, the one on the right, arriving at the pub, seeing her, ignoring her and ordering a few shots, the one on the left after those shots kick in!
There are a few main issues that we have with movies and shows that have been released in the past few years. The average quality of writing and dialogue seems to have dropped off a cliff at some unspecified point in time.
New productions seem like they’re unoriginal reruns of the same tired old tropes. And the worldbuilding, as well as the plot are so illogical that it’s hard to keep willingly suspending our disbelief. In short, more often than not, we’re not all immersed in what’s happening on the screen.
As you’re exposed to more and more content—whether it’s films, books, art, or heck, even memes—your sense of taste grows. You slowly become able to realize what genuine quality looks like.
However, this can be a double-edged sword. You might stop being able to enjoy a lot of the low-quality stuff you liked a few years ago. And unless you’re willing to follow what’s being shown at film festivals around the world, you’ll see very little that impresses you at your local movie theater or on Netflix’s home page.
It's such a plague. I'm particularly disappointed in Disney, because I really loved films like The Lion King (and still do), but their "live-action" remakes (if they can be classified as such at all) all blow.
I don't think its a bad thing because a good story is a good story but Disney was built from the very beginning (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves) on adaptations of other work. Very little of its content has ever been original. My favorite Disney film as a kid was their version of Robin Hood which was an almost shot for shot remake of Errol Flynn's version of the story but with animals. The Lion King is a remake of Hamlet. Its first live action movie in 1950 was Treasure Island.
Load More Replies...Please NEVER make a live action minecraft unless it is based off of an SMP and uses youtubers and streamers not actors (ex: Make Hermitcraft, or the QSMP, or OSMP)
We need to stop thinking this is new or a bad thing. If a story is good and it makes people happy, let's see it. If its bad, lets not make it. I randomly picked a year (1960) and looked up the best picture nominees. Ben Hur (a remake based on a book) won that year over 5 other films that were all remakes or adaptations of something else. The Diary of Anne Frank was one of the other nominees. Someone made an movie out of THAT book. Shakespeare had his own version of the MCU where he wrote the Henriad which is 8 plays with both sequels and prequels because people like seeing more about characters they like.
Agreed. I was pretty pleased with the HBO adaptation of Last of Us.
Load More Replies...I am perfectly fine with remakes and sequels. How many times have plays been put on over the years? How many books have been repeatedly adapted? All I care about is good films/TV shows. So, I don’t care about the idea of remakes - but too many of them end up being of poor quality.
if they make a live action HTTYD it should be more based on the books. Just my opinion obviously but I was genuinely mad at what the movies did to them
Don't worry too much; a Wes Anderson character wouldn't survive more than 30 mins in a Tarantino movie
zero, what did they do to you? also the grand budapest hotel is one of my favorite movies!
Andrew Buchholz writes on the ‘Spartan Scoop’ that there’s been a “drought of inventiveness” in recent years. Everything feels like a rerun. We’re perpetually stuck with a sense of déjà vu.
“Depending on the genre, there are hundreds of different clichés to be used by any given filmmaker. One example might be a romantic comedy where the two main characters pretend to be dating until they fall in love. Or what about a heist movie with a group of misfits that work together to steal the ultimate prize. These plot ideas lack any flavor; they’re boring and overused,” he explains. In short, there’s a lack of innovation and far too much stagnation.
Nothing makes me clench uncomfortably quite like marvel movie analogies for serious stuff
My favorite movies to rewatch are always flashy, spastic action movies: Scott Pilgrim, Tron: Legacy, Kill Bill, The Fifth Element... I'm not saying that they're the best movies ever but they just don't get old for me.
My guilty pleasure is Rogue One.....I was 17 when the first Star Wars Came out, and they all should have been made (scriptwise at least) as good as this. I had to wait almost 40 years for the best Star Wars film to be made.
Load More Replies...heard we're sharing our faves, so i'll go: the grand budapest hotel, jungle cruise, a room with a view and the princess bride. classics!
The first two Indiana Jones movies, The Thing, Escape from New York and Big Trouble in Little China oh and first Tremors. I enjoy a lot of movies, but those would be my desert island ones. They're not necessarily the best made, most cinematic etc, but they are the ones I most enjoy and can watch over and over.
Load More Replies...You cannot watch or enjoy all and every movie. So watch those which you enjoy the most. I'd rather rewatch enjoyable movie for 3 times than watching one I did not enjoy.
The only problem with that is until you watch it how do you know you won't enjoy it? And just to be clear I don't mean that with every film, if you hate horror for example it's fine to skip horror movies. But if your favourite movie *is* a horror movie then just rewatching that and missing out on potentially amazing new ones... why?
Load More Replies...According to Buchholz, one reason why there are fewer new movies that manage to satisfy us is due to the massive popularity of streaming services. From Netflix and HBO Max to Hulu, Disney+, and Amazon Prime.
On the plus side, you have access to tons of movies whenever you want. But if you’ve watched the best of the best, you’re quickly left with the rest which is (at best) something to put on in the background while you eat your cereal or wash the dishes.
"I never had a ten, but one night I had five twos." Oh, I miss George Carlin.
I quoted him to my parents just this morning.
Load More Replies...so true, like in math class, you get half your points taken off if you dont show work, but if you do show work, it means you dont get it
Meanwhile, the streaming services themselves are pumping out films and shows, too. It’s a business decision that they hope will pay off, so naturally, they’re taking lower risks and opting for safer (more boring, simpler, cheaper) productions. They want to make a profit and producing films is an expensive line of work to be in. However, from the point of view of a movie-goer, we want quality, not excuses about substandard slop.

How’s it a “humblebrag”? She got a job after making a fan post. It happens sometimes. (Rarely, but it happens.) Guy with a degree can’t find a job (or make a good fan edit, apparently.) Is merely stating facts nowadays “humblebragging”?

Pretty sure you can interpret vampires (in movie or other art) a bunch of ways, disease, sexual freedoms fear of foreigners, the loss of religion... I mean ultimately that's the beauty of art the creator can mean one thing and the audience can interpret another. And of course, that's ignoring the fact that some creators don't really have anything in mind other than scaring/entertaining a viewer. Any deeper meaning is being fabricated by critics (kinda like the OP says).
Feels like he was internalizing a fresh outlook on a subject that fascinates him. Let yourself off the hook, dude. Either way, you likely helped him.
More like, he spent the night examining his life choices in attending that party and opening up about his academic work
I’ve never seen the movie (“Star Wars” ain’t my cup of tea), but even I hate this character since my friends call me “Binks”/“Binx” and it’s taken on a whole new flavor since this character was invented. 😞 / 🤬
Load More Replies...Let’s loop back for a moment. One of the main things that take us out of the entire movie-going experience is if the world lacks any internal logic. Even a fantasy or sci-fi world has to make sense. Otherwise, you’re left with shallow characters with constantly-shifting motivations, doing random stuff in a world that has no consistency. It’s hard to enjoy the experience when you’re reminded that what you’re watching is make-believe.
Oh dear. They censored it. I will forever wonder what it says. /s
How do you define weak? Weak as in insecure like Putin who started a war and so created hard times?
Recently, Bored Panda spoke to author Christopher Burke about movies, immersion, and internal logic. “Superheroes, aliens, and magic are the price of admission. That's what I'm paying for with the movie. After that, everything else should be relatable," he noted.
"There can be a dragon. The dragon can swear, smoke cigars, and drink whiskey if it wants to. But if it starts talking about cigars and whiskey and gets basic facts (which are easily found) wrong, someone's going to notice, and that will pull them out of the moment. The audience will willingly accept the big stuff or they wouldn't watch the movie. It's the small stuff that's distracting, and sometimes you wonder if they could've avoided it,” Burke explained why consistent world-building is vital in films.
Really. The only 3-hour European movie I watched is Císařův pekař a Pekařův císař - a masterpiece of historical comedy with tons of quotable lines, alchemy and a golem :)
Someone help me understand, please. WHY was it important that these two things be shown side by side? Would it help if I knew what “Subway Surfers” is? Whether it does or not, I’d love to know why these two needed to be screened at the same time. Thanks!
Maybe I'm overthinking it, but Subway surfers is often used on TikTok to keep the viewers attention on a story
