People don't understand Down's syndrome so they assume anyone with it is totally incapable of taking care of themselves. Some are, but Down's is a spectrum and each person should be seen for their own capabilities, you know, like everyone else.

Sadly, I know more answers to this question than I could fit in here without exceeding character count limit... But, I'm with you on this, whoever loves whoever else, shall marry all they want. Unless it's like siblings or so, of course, but any else, I don't get why not, or why people even bother and make themselves bothered by choices that neither are theirs, nor affect them in any way ... can't we just leave people doing no harm alone? There's people doing a lot of harm to the all of us ... and, usually, we leave THESE alone, not THOSE. Wronging at its best.

Back when I was a kid, medical experts advised parents to commit their disabled children to "asylums" because they are so difficult to raise and will be too big an emotional and financial burden to the family.

If it was brother and sister would you be asking the same question? Somewhat similarly, for people with downs syndrome (and some other serious issues) I'm pretty sure the usual concern is what happens if they breed. If it's "only" because they may have problems taking care of themselves I don't see any validity because being married isn't going to change anything in that regard.

You're born with an extra gene. I don't remember which, but you get an extra one. The condition (normally) causes some amount of retardation, the "Down's" look, and health problems. Many people with Down's are capable of self-care and even caring for others. The most severe are not. There was an American TV show, "Life Goes On" about a family with teenaged children. The boy had Down's. The actor who played the boy also had Down's. It wasn't about a family with a Down's kid. It was about a family. The young man who played the boy did a fine job.
