School is a formative experience in our lives, and we learn much more than just the topics we are taught. These hilarious educational memes celebrate some of the commonalities we’ve all experienced while learning about the world and how to find our way in it. They've been gathered up by this awesome Instagram account, and we've shared our favorites with you here.

There are many memes about the facts we learned about the world, but that’s not all. Many other memes about learning deal with the social trials and triumphs that we experience as we grow at our schools and with the frustration of learning in systems that may not always be capable of giving each pupil the individual attention they deserve.

Ugh not this again. Most Americans are perfectly familiar with the Celsius scale AND the metric system.

I work with high school students in the Midwest of the US. My students are absolutely _NOT_ familiar with Centigrade/Celsius or the rest of the metric system! They refuse to use anything that's not "American". Actually, I have never met an American student (K-12) who uses the metric system for anything other than science classes. Even my friends in the medical field, who use the metric system professionally, revert to American measurements in their private life.

Salt, this is true. As an American, I really try to remember/learn it but we never use it so I have no idea.

american here - shorts at 10C is appropriate even way down south here in Colorado and wearing a Jacket at 30 C is ludicrous anywhere for everyone including Aussies. Although, yesterday it was 99F here, almost 37C, and I still wore long sleeves (because I'm SupahPale!)

Truth here, we're not even coming close to what we should be teaching our kids curriculum wise. Some can't even read an analog clock ⌚⏰

A quick way to get a ROUGH estimate is to take the Celsius number, double it and add 30.

So what does the translate to when I spent a day working outside in 127 degrees F?

Yeah, here in Canada, 6° is when I start wearing spaghetti strap crop tops to walk the dogs. It's 22° outside, right now, and we have our air conditioning full blast, and I feel like death. To be fair, it was hotter during the day so the apartment is still hotter from that, but 18-20° is my favourite temperature.

Texas kids wear shorts 365 because it'll be hot at least once at some point in each day.

There's a workable formula most people should be able to do in their heads. C to F: Double the C number, add 30. F to C: Subtract 30 from F, divide by 2. It's not exact, but it's good enough when you in the US and your Ireland teammates (or vice versa) are chatting about the weather before a meeting officially begins.

Or Americans can just catch up with the rest of the world and learn C.

I generally have a vague idea of what the Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion is, not necessarily exact numbers but I can generally approximate. But one morning back in high school, probably in like October, I had the radio on in my room while I was waking up and they were doing the weather and said "it's 10 degrees out right now" and I was in shock like how is it that cold out? Then I remembered I was listening to a Canadian radio station (I live close to the border) and that it wasn't actually that cold

I will never understand why people hate on Americans for using Fahrenheit. Who freaking cares as long as you know either temperature? We're all capable of doing the conversion.

Only three or four countries use Fahrenheit though. The rest of the world Celsius is standard.

The memeseducational account has 45,000 followers on Instagram and over 650,000 on Facebook, so they’ve clearly touched on a topic with these funny educational memes that resonate with many current and former students and pupils. Setting aside homeschooling, which is an often legitimate but very different education path, both private and public schooling options share many problematic and positive commonalities, their differences notwithstanding.

It’s clear, even judging by the sheer amount of educational memes on the topic, that the education system is facing challenges, especially in the US. In the US, school test grades have reached their lowest levels in decades. Students are struggling to grasp some of the topics being presented to them, and experts are trying to figure out why.

One significant impact on the quality of education in the United States has been the COVID pandemic lockdown. Interruptions manifested themselves differently around the world depending on lockdown restrictions and compensation techniques, but in many places, both the quality and quantity of education dropped dramatically. Children had to adjust to learning from home, reduced class time, distractions at home, and other challenges. As you’re about to see, there are plenty of learning memes in this list that touch on the subject, too.

The COVID pandemic was not the only reason for the drop in the US, however. By all accounts, the downturn in testing grades in the US has gone on for at least a few years prior, hinting at deeper underlying problems in the education system. Similar COVID-related downturns were identified in several EU countries, but their magnitude varied due to vastly different lockdown approaches and, in some cases, available resources.

And while all that does not sound very promising, we can always turn to educational memes and have a nice, delightful laugh at the woes of schools.
